the knife work with the hammer is genius. Heavy drafts generally have hard hooves so it can look very exhausting when they trim them up.

I have always been amazed at how a farrier works with such big a powerful animals like this horse..... Some would think the hourse would totally fight this process. But I think the hourse has to feel like they can trust the person performing this work on them..... It's really a amazing and honorable profession.

Hurts my back, my legs and I’ve got blisters on my hands just watching. A farrier I know just hit his thumb with the hammer, it smashed the nail and broke the bone. OUCH !!

So I keep it to only a few "natural" views(whatever that means) a day. Didn't even know until I researched it, that they take away views if they question the views. Feel so bad for Yvonne. I can leave a few replies and then they start blocking me for a few hours. This happens everyday. So I like comments everyday, as many videos as I can and community page.. This truly is a master farrier. His technique is different than what I’ve seen in North America, but he’s thorough and quick, and has an excellent grasp of hoof anatomy. Top notch.

I truly love watching a farrier at work. That is a hard job, but the horses need the extra care, especially when they are pulling carriages. I am enjoying going through some of the older videos! My cousin is a Farrier in Canada....he has worked with horses most all his life......he is like a horse whisperer. He went with his trailer to a property in Quebec. The owner of the horse said if you can get shoes on my horse it will be a miracle! Mission accomplished and the horse was not stressed by his presence...love and patients is the main source of a good Farrier....

A few years ago I had a neighbor with 2 horses. She taught me many thing about taking care of her horses. I got to hang around horses and she got some free labor! I learned to teach them to lift up their hooves while I cleaned them. Lenney used to lean on me in a comfortable trusting way while I picked her hoof. I remember this with fondness, but Lisa told me I couldn't let her do this. Sigh.

This MUST feel great to the horses because they don't mind the banging, filing or anything! As you said though the horses WILL rebel if they're not comfortable. I would imagine that the confidence of this man has a lot to do with how comfortable the horse feels too. Great seeing such skill!!👍🐴

We have a saying here. “You can always tell a Dutch person…but you cannot tell them much”. This was shared with me by the father of a Dutch-Canadian girl that I was fond of, so it must be true. (I know very little about horses) I'm very surprised how patient they are through out the job, without sedating the animal. With dogs & cats you can barely get one paw done.
I never get tired of watching this video those two were so attracted to each other from the start.

Horseshoeing is interesting. I think the bottom of a horse’s hoof has the quality of a mushroom. While Yvonne is recuperating, she might enjoy watching videos from the Idaho Horseshoeing School. They fix the worst of the worst, and they often custom-make shoes for animals with severely deformed hooves. Ain’t it funny what you can find on You Tube?
