I forgot to mention that the Bones X Formula 97a wheels come in 3 shapes: V1 (Standard), V5 (Sidecut), V6 (Wide-cut).
What are your experiences with both wheels?

What shape were you reviewing? Looking at v6 53mm for street

Came from Spitfire Formula 4 99a. Wasn't sure about the X97's at first, but after a couple weeks I realized I wasn't noticing my wheels at all, and that's a compliment! They just disappear and you get on with skating, they're still fast in the park, but grip much better than 99a F4's, far smoother on asphalt, soak up cracks and pebbles way better, but still slide and revert no problem when you make them.
I skated my 99a F4's again the other day after more than a month on the X97's, and now the Spits feel icy! Sticking with the Bones, but still definitely want to try 97a F4's.
Have Dragons as well, and while they're great for really bad crust, or pump tracks and whatnot, they're a bit rubbery and soft in the park. Fine but not as fun.

I got the t funk 97 60 mm wheels 2 weeks ago and they’re my favorite wheel, they’re hard but pretty smooth for a hard wheel but they slide just as good if not better than 99 f4s

nice vid! 93a dragons are unbeatable at my "terrible asphalt" park, 97x-formula are incredible on my local asphalt streets. if I'm going to a nearby concrete park, i'm still riding bones SPF (104) or spitfire 99s, the dragons are kinda slippery on polished concrete. also, i'm hella old... on terrible asphalt, 93a dragons are probably the best wheels I've ever skated on that surface. very similar to the 95a rat bones from the 80s (which were great on asphalt as well)

    Agreed. 97a is where it's at, but I like Speedlab's 97a better.

I used both, Bones X have less vibration and hurt my feet less but flip tricks & powerslide are better on Spitfire FF4 97, not as good as FF4 99

I've found that pinched grinds on angle iron ledges don't really work with F4 97a, while the X97 let you grind just like a hard wheel. Struggled so hard to do any crooked grinds on F4 97a's. On concrete ledges both work just fine though.

Thanks helped me figure out if I should stick with my x97 or go back to 103a stf’s

    whoa nice timing there bro!
I Was just contemplating what my next wheels should be.
currently I am riding some 101A mini logo's which are decent enough and cheap, but they are super grippy on anything thats not smooth concrete.
powersliding them is kind of a pain in the ass.

I'm a nomad on my board I street skate around town here in Portland and was riding 101d f4's (grew up only hitting parks) I went to widecut 54 xf 97s and it was a game changer. they slide really good and are faster on normal concrete and hitting slightly rough street spots and cracks. my main thing is doin drops and gaps and the landing feels so much softer on my feet. I took a long break from skating and im 24 and it was nice to feel a more forgiving wheel under my feet after goin to the 97s

Did you try the Spitfire 93s? I'd love to hear how they compare to these.

I will try probably the x-99 ! I really like my double duro OJ'S and my nomads too. I have no problem to slide with the nomads and i was surprise about that. Im really happy with the softer wheels, i can skate the shitty old Park and the new one with no problem.

I don't have either of these wheels and so I have never tested them but I heard they are both quite grippy especially the SFF4 97A and even some say the X97 are grippy also so which one of them are grippier of the two at 97A? Since you say you tend to slip out on X97 is it true they are grippy new (as many who tested them and soon stop using them) but once broken in (like after a few days or a week or so once the coating on them is gone) is when the X97 becomes more slippery than the 93A Dragons especially on smoother surfaces (and or on rough surfaces as well)? And how much slower is the SFF4 97A compare to SFF4 99A in a smooth park (as many have said that the X97 like the Dragons are not fast compare to most 99A or harder wheels on smooth park)?

    • @ThorneBenatar

I found F4 97a to be more grippy. Bones X felt consistent from new to old for me and had no change in performance.
      It's been a while since I've skated F4 99a, so I can't answer that question.

Haven't skated any of those two having only skated 101a and 99a Spitfires and then the 93a Dragons. But as someone interested in these things and trying to find the perfect wheel I'm thankful for your views on them.

Strange to imagine a 97a is considered slightly towards the softer side of modern wheels. When I worked at the shops in the late 80s, 97A was a hard wheel a vert skater would use. 90a to 95A was more considered a “street” wheel.
    I skate 99s for everything 🤪

I liked the f4 97a for wooden parks but wasn’t really that stoked on them for anything else. They just felt like a grippy f4. I have heard good things about the x formula

A question i wonder if youve ever experienced with these doul duro dragons/bones x97 wheels i had two sets of dragons have the core stretched out on me where the bearing falls out the wheel have you ever had this problem with any kind of wheel?

    • @ThorneBenatar
      @ThorneBenatar  Рік тому +1

Those wheels aren't dual durometer. I haven't had that problem with any wheels I've used. I'd contact Skate One about your issues. www.skateone.com/customer-service/warranty-information

@@ThorneBenatarsee i did and they sent me replacement wheels and the same thing happened lol i was just wondering if others had problems with any of dragons/bones like how i did i could maybe i could reach out to them again but don't want the problem to happen again and sorry idk seems like dual to me what would you call a 93 outer but 97 99 dual right? Whatever floats your boat

@@yes11889 Keep contacting Skate One until your issue is resolved.
Dragons/Bones X only have one durometer, the inner core isn't a different durometer.

@@yes11889i had this same issue with every set of dragons. Literally I could just powerslide or do a frontside slash grind on coping and a wheel would seize up. I tried wiping the insides of the wheels with alcohol, and my axles, and the inside and outside of the bearings to eliminate that factor. Finally emailed skateone and they sent me a replacement set. Same shit happened. To be fair, same thing has happened with 95a-97a OJ's but it's annoying.

@@ambientrealms_ Hi do u use all washers and spacers as it supposed to be installed? If u use it proper. U doesn't have many spare place to have issues. I'm use 3-4 thick washers with spacer per axle to prevent all fails/breakings with bearings, wheels and truck axles.
