    I used to only skate Spitfire when I was younger. I tried Bones STF about 6 or 7 years ago and I won't ride any other wheels anymore. They just don't flatspot and last forever. They do get chewed up on sharp ledges but I don't find it to affect the performance at all. Just my personal opinion.

      @@bugglemagnum6213 I actually recently bought some radial slim F4s and one wheel had a defect. I thought it was just a small divit that would roll out after a day or two. It didn't and the wheel started to have big chunks fall off it and it sounded like a flatspot. But I sent them photos and they hooked it up with a new set, a ton of stickers, a tool, bandana, etc. I picked up some of Chad Caruso's Karma wheels to ride while I waited for them to send replacements. But I've got a set that I'll be riding soon. I really like the shape of radial slims better than anything Bones has though. And check out Chad Caruso's channel if you haven't. He and Ben have my favorite skate channels.

    My all time favorite wheel is by far the Spitfire Conical Full. I get them in 56 because I ride an 8.5 anyway so the extra size doesn't bother me or affect my skating and they last longer. And since the contact patch is so wide on them I can ride over the crustiest ground

    Man, I wish I knew all this before. I bought very hard wheels when I set up my new skate and now I can only ride smooth surfaces. When it comes to rough concrete, it's really hard to get any speed and it's so damn shaky. On the other hand, I rarely get to ride rough paths thought, I usually hop on my bike, get my board attached to my backpack and ride all the way down to my skate spot. Great video man, greetings from Brazil!!!

    I've got Spitfire 101d radials and my girl has 99d radials. In my area we have full concrete skatepark and 101d are perfect for this conditions. They were a little bit slippery in the beggining but after few first hours they were good. The second skatepark has concrete ground and wooden ramps etc. in this case 99d are better than 101d. They are faster on concrete and more ,,hook" on wooden ramp. The 101 sometimes slide on wooden surfaces or dusty concrete.
    In my opinion Spitfire 101d makes skateboarding more challenging than 99d.
    P.S I bought 101d because of your review , so thank you Ben :)

      Formula fours are way better than the classics. You can powerslide and revert all day with those and you won't flat spot them. I have a set of classic Spitfire wheels that flat spotted the first session so I put them on my lathe fix them. They are the 56mm firefights. I switched to 57mm formula four radial fulls and they're faster plus I don't have to worry about flat spots.

  • @TimJones97701
    @TimJones97701 6 років тому +6

    Skating in transition I do notice an extra gear of speed with Bones. I have F4 99 and 101s, and both STF and SPF. Speed is in that order. I have two sets of F4 99s (53 and 56) that sit in the garage because I don't feel fast with them. F4 101s are almost as fast as STFs, but feel smoother and quieter. STF are faster and have a very distinct breaking point. SPF are super fast, but don't slide well and are a bit more likely to flat spot. Still the one to go to in big bowls.

    • @jorgeandrescoppiano
      @jorgeandrescoppiano 5 років тому

      Tim Jones how would you describe the powerslide of SPFs?
      For me:
      Spits 99a Classics slide like drifting. The sliding is progressive. They slide in a carve motion.
      STFs grip a lot and don’t give out at first. Then they slide straight, like ice. They don’t drift but instead slide like ice on the ground. In a straight line.
      Haven’t skated F4s. I have to buy them overseas.

So it’s always kinda a “new” experience but I def prefer these two over any other brand. Spitfire F4s 99 conical 53mm or Bones V4s 53mm... 53mm is the only consist choice is my wheel size :P

    I’ve been having some really good sessions lately on OJ wheels. I dig the way they feel in 99a and 101a. Three good shapes to choose from and they stay white. Only downside I could mention is that the tend to offer mostly larger diameter wheels. I found some 101a 52 mm ez edge from concentrates that are very juicy. Also, 99a 53 mm hardline from concentrates are quite nice. Their budget offerings are surprising. I haven’t tried the elite formula yet but the from concentrate and insane a thane formulas are definitely the real deal. Thank you Ben for all the great info!

    Used to skate bones v3 before skating spitfire f4's 101s. Bones stf (with a narrow contact patch) became a little sketchy and unpredictable skating an extremely smooth park when carving around transition, randomly powersliding in a middle of a carve. The spits are a just a tad grippier and very forgiving in skateparks.

    I started back skating at 43 and streets are pretty crappy around here. I have a garage full of wheels as I have been trying a ton of them. I skated 90a. Smooth but my pop was all but gone. Tried some Ricta 92a. Nice ride but grippy if you land crooked. Spitfire 99a, I liked them but jarring on rough ground. Slime ball mini vomit 97a, great compromise but kind of wide on ledges. Riding Bones STF 83b, pretty good so far, actually less jarring than spits on harsh ground surprisingly as they are harder. It’s an expensive experiment but like Ben pointed out your skate surface will dictate how your wheels perform. They all seem to have pros and cons. I definitely notice my pop falls off the softer wheels. My compromise was to buy a cruiser with soft wheels just to ride and another board to skate.

Rolling around in the city streets is just insanely loud and the vibration is really uncomfortable. If you're not riding a really smooth park stf absolute no from me. The spitfire conical 99a are where it's at for me. A little smoother, still with slide. If Spitfire made a white 99a in V3 shape, would be my wheel forever!!!

      Five Hour Energy it’s a looks thing for me. I don’t know why but I’be always liked just a plain white wheel. Never liked the graphics showing or any other color wheels. I’ve seen sets of wheels that are a different color for each wheel and that gives me anxiety, hahahahaha.

    I've always rode spitfires or pigs back in the day, but a wheel that stays whiter longer is appealing.
    I don't skate ground that isn't smooth anymore, so maybe Bones' would be good for me.

    Wheels that stay white have sacrificed urethane purity for more dye and colorfast qualities, but this is getting down to technicalities that prob really don't matter...I swear I do notice that colored (not white) wheels get little chunks/bites from rough surfaces a lot easier tho

    Love my spitties, 52mm F4 101's, really slippy and the radial shape i'm using has plenty of contact patch for shitty road in my area. I ride a super low setup too cause i'm in my 40's and it's nicer on my legs. So the slippy aspect is good as i get a bit of wheel bite sometimes. I can't do grinds yet but I'm sure they would be good for nose and tail slides etc.

    Interesting View Point ! I live on top of a hill with really rough ground and love to powerslide. Spitfires would always chip for me and become mini wheels the quickest. Bones always out lasted them and rarely would flatspot spitfires flat spot after a few weeks for me but maybe thats because i powerslide so much

    *** Regarding the duro ***
    The Bones are marketed as 83b and to "help" people they translate this into 103a which is actually incorrect. This link for explains the a and b scales :
    2.bp.blogspot.com/_an3lNEHhIeY/TCnpJlG0KaI/AAAAAAAAAN8/nGbLIoO1-gM/s1600/chart1.jpg
    So 83b is about 97a. I have skated Bones STF and Spit 99 FF and yes the 99' are harder and slide better don't wear as fast as STF when you power slide on rough asphalt.
    Without getting into the details, you can't measure precisely duro greater than 90 on any scale. Instead, you should switch to the next harder scale. But that would confuse the buyers. Also you can't physically measure greater than 100. Thanks for reading :)

    • @commentcontrol7187
      @commentcontrol7187 4 роки тому

      so the higher duros over 95 are actually measured on the b scale and converted to a for buyer purposes?

    55mm spitfire f4 conicals 101a in cold temps and dry humidity, 55mm spitfire lockins 99a in hot weather or wet humidity. Always on standard Indys for the 56mm clearance. Bones SPF or 99a spitfire classics on wooden (banana-skin) mini-ramps and bowls

  • @pierreandreassen287

    Been skating spitfire wheels for many years now and I dont belive they are the best but I feel at home on them.
    Here in sweden we skate indoor parks atleast 6 months of the year and usually its very slippery indoor and I get used to it, and when I get outside and skate concrete parks it just feels like the wheels gets sucked to the surface. On asphalt they work alot better i think!
    I would like to try a harder wheel from spitfire if they make one, but for now im good with 101d formula fours! bought a set of classics 99 duro the other week and it feelt like skating on a rubbery/plastic gym floor, so I changed back to the old ones after 10min.
    Never got flatspot on any of the 101a Formula four, but the older classics always got flatspotted, but usually we say that a flatspot is a reminder that you did something gnarly haha

  • @itsjjstyles
    @itsjjstyles 2 роки тому

    My thing with spitfires, I love them, though they don't flatspot, they do get progressively smaller the longer you have them, but this is probably because I've had mine for over 9 months, and I do a lot of slide tricks

      I'm really interested in oj I had normal (really bad), insanethane (really fast but won't slide at all).
      I'm currently skating f4s and they slip too much and they're slow as hell, for my next wheels I want to try oj elites Hardline.
      How are them? Do they slide a little? Are them still fast?

    • @mysides_

      @@usafan96soren20 i have the OJ elites hardline shape and they are very nice, the shape is very similar to spitfire conical. They grip well onto even the smoother skatepark surfaces but will still slide nicely when you want them to. ive just started learning frontside rock and rolls and they make the sickest squeal sound when im turning back into the ramp. still very fast and ive done tons of slides, not a single flat spot.

    I think it is personal preference. I feel Bones STF is the hardest one among the 3. I skated Spit Fire 101a formula, which is a little softer than STF. I prefer OJ and Bones because the both are little bit harder than Spit Fire. It is my opinion and preference.

    To me it’s simple really. The difference is is that formula fours are just a way better wheel.... They also don’t look fake like they’re made out of chalk like stf’s do. 52mm Conical Full Formula fours for life! (Wud ride 51 if they made em). Spits makes big wheels that are slim too they made classic shapes and radial slims and also check their site bones wheels definitely get wider the bigger they are.... Good video tho ur killing it skatin too!
