Hey, nice video... my question is, is ist possible to do a timelaps with eye af? I would use that for selfportaits so i dont need a Smartphone in my hand to trigger the shutter. Would be amazing if this works.... actually i use my 6D with MagicLantern and there i can costomise this szenario. Thx for your help ✌️
I have an R6, and doing tests, photo and video, when it reaches 1" or less appears the message Busy, the memories are of good capacity, the ISO settings off, I did the test in 6D and 7D II with the same memories and does not appear the message, it may be some wrong configuration.
I set up some settings for timelpase and now my canon r5 shutter speed won't go faster than 1/30. Do you know which setting I need to change on my Canon R5?

Great video thanks for sharing. I have a question if you shoot in video mode, set the interval for three seconds, and set the shutter speed for two seconds, would that be the same as shooting a one second interval? I didn’t know how‘s changing shutter speeds affect the video mode time lapse.
Do you know if you can shoot star timelapse movie or interval timer where the shutterspeed is longer than the interval? I could never get my 5 D4 to do it and have to use an external intervalometer... however other entry level cameras( nikon) can be set that way
Not sure tbh as I never had any R cameras for an extended period of time. I'd say you can though, but for any star shot I recommend shooting raw files anyway. You never know what kind of meteor shot you might get and then you'll be kicking yourself if you don't have the raw file!
Canon 5d4 has a problem as when you shoot long exposures ie 25sec..and set the interval timer ...it stops recording after 5/6 frames...if you use an intervalometer no problem...RAW files...have you encountered this and do you know a work around?
hi, about the internal intervalometer in my new Canon EOS R6 it looks not working properly, everything ok with menus, starting getting the first shot, "TIMER" is flashing on screen, decreasing numbers of photos are shown but the card has only recording the first photo, Did you have the same issue? any advice? @@salvamando1 yeap, in M/Av modes and back button autofocus, in built intervalometer is not working, but I am keeping back focus becouse my work flow, so I get one of C modes with main Shutter button with autofocus for time lapses

Do you or anybody else have any idea how to stop the camera from taking inifinite images besides turning the camera off? I have used the R5 for timelapses of the night sky and turning the camera of means I have to refocues after turning it back on again (because the focus in RF lenses is electronic). I have tried pressing almost every button but to no avail.
@@MatthewVandeputte Thanks, that seems to work! But it does mean that I have to increase the interval to at least 7 seconds. Otherwise I can't seem to enter the mode change. And I am afraid that 7 seconds will give to big a jump between shots. It's still weird there is no easier way to stop it shooting.
Just got the R5 for a week of testing. Super sick so far. Best night lapse of my life first try and now it’s running tonight shooting every 15 seconds. I have a few 6Ds and a 60 and this R5 is on another level for sure... using adapter for my EF lenses is working great! Must have CFexpress card to shoot 8k and none here locally so OMG imaging that. LOL. Sucks but 4K and range are great
The cannon should give the infinity no of shoots in timelpase video mode and also 1sec intervals it is good for shooting long timelpase from day to night or of a hole night.
That's weird, even my EOS M50 supports 1-second intervals in Time-Lapse Movie mode. Do you have any information on the slowest shutter speeds in Time-Lapse Movie mode? And, how are you able to turn aperture priority on while still in Time-Lapse Movie mode?
To me the thing with this camera is that we are finally not limited by technology for the choice of interval. If Canon do it right we will finally by able to have 8K RAW timelapses, no matter if we shoot 30 fps or 1 frame every 10 seconds. For someone like me shooting on the A7RII which can't go faster than 2 seconds interval, it is a big deal.
sweet. Does the photo-timelapse mode have any of the smoothing/ramping features? What about a max-shutter-speed (for external) or Interval-priority (for internal) setting? Does it ramp SS to the max first, before raising ISO? For comparison Sony does that since 2015 (A7r2) and much improved with the A7r3 (2017). The Nikon Z6 and Z7 (2018) also do have these features which are a literal deal-maker for internal day-night ramping for very dark scenes like milkyway shots. I'm getting the R5 anyway for 8K Raw video, but if it does good timelapses, even better ;)
No smoothing/ramping on the photo mode. Min/max shutter speeds are adjustable if I'm not mistaken but will have to check. Raising SS before ISO I'm not sure but you could set your max iso and force it to ramp SS. I'll ask Scott to check and hopefully Canon sees your comment too :)
Thanks for covering this, so few reviews even mention timelapse options. Lumix has the best internal Timelapse system that I have used. It has stop motion animation as well with overlay screen of previous image making movement sequences possible. And you can shoot raw + jpg and make an internal 4k or HD clip in minutes with choices of frame rates.
Matthew, Can I ask you if you have tried he Alpine Labs Pulse intervalometer, which claims to have an exposure ramping feature for Holy Grail timelapse? If you did what was your opinion of it?

I think it makes sense to go to RF glass if you intend to go mirrorless all the way, I'm not sure they'll fully switch to mirrorless only but I did hear that the 5D4 is the last in that series, so who knows what will happen!
Oh they'll see it I'm sure! What I would really love is to be able to give in depth feedback, which I've done for much smaller brands, free of charge! I just want to make it easier for people to make great timelapses 😁

I'm 99% sure you can adjust your settings when shooting with the built in intervalometer yes. However I would recommend using an external remote so you can stop/start the sequence to review the histogram briefly in between shots.
Interesting features in this v1 firmware, hopefully they’ll be tweaked to out liking in next update, would love to see you full , hands on review on it at some point 👍🏻Interested coz you know, I may or may not be switching 😜
Thanks for this video, I just subscribed! Interesting about the 2-second interval limit. This really doesn't make much sense unless the shutter speed is 1 second or greater. Mine will arrive tomorrow but I've been reading the manual and it looks like there's a programmable BULB mode where you can get shutter speeds longer than 30 seconds. I'm curious to see if the BULB mode can be used in tandem with the built-in intervalometer.
@@MatthewVandeputte Well, i gave it a shot, out of my bedroom window last night ... hard to tell for sure, as it was cloudy, there were streetlights, neighbour's lights etc ... but the results are very promising. I even got some stars ... and the camera ran for just about NINE hours, on a single battery. This needs more investigation ....

Having this capability will not only make the camera silent in special situations but also increase the life of the mechanical shutter. Also will greatly appreciate a video on R6 time-lapse features. That’s so strange that the Canon has such a restriction on the number of photos you can take in Interval Mode. I shoot timelapse sequences all the time on my Nikon Z7, and it does have 4 digits for the number of shots.
2:55 Nikon just did it, with their 1400$ entry-level Z5! I saw Nikon rep. on Adorama channel talking about this simultaneous stills+movie capture for time-lapse probably for the 1st time in any camera. Moreover, in Nikon there is also an option to shoot with electronic shutter to save the life of your mech. shutter, this may be present on other brands as well but I am not familiar with their features.
I was also trying to wrap my head around why time lapse video only allows 2second intervals. Can only do 60x or faster videos (48x if you convert to 24fps). And limiting to 3600 shots only allow a maximum of 2 minutes video at 30fps. But at least we have it and the performance is awesome!

what do you mean by 8 stops imaging stablization? i hear "stops" and i think of f-stops.
The equivalent of 8 f-stops, or 8 exposure values

Did you find the solution for this issue? It has something to do with disabling AF from shutter main button (for a back auto focus setup)

Have you tried switching to Bulb mode and back?

i have R5 , it a camera with some kinds of mixed a smarts and stupid functions in the same times

You'll always be able to record raw timelapses with any camera these days. I assume it has the same features but hoping to make a separate video
Matthew Vandeputte seems like R6 overheats in 4k 24FPS. So I wonder if it works without overheating in all FHD modes 24-120 FPS. Any info about that?

Max. Shots is unlimited to your card size, not 99. After you toggle pass 99, unlimited will appear for you to select. 😊

If you set the no. of shots to 00 it says unlimited next to it. and a 1 second Interval works on my cam
