This album has just sealed Ghost as legends, people will look back at them as classics in the future. We should make the most of living through their golden era.
The cadence in which he sings "for the dreams that you dread can become just as real," followed by the "ahh" is so nasty in the best fucking way possible.
I love this song, especially in the calm and "nostalgic" way of how they talk about the topic, which is very bloody. The song is about Jack the Ripper and in one of the places where he acted (Spitalfields), I must admit that as a child I was obsessed with Jack and I wanted to become like him (I was very strange). I love Ghost, now also for addressing the topic.
Love how the last bites of this song are indeed the very first song on this album, Imperium. It really brings the end back to the beginning , the Alpha and the Omega, all comes full circle...genius.
I love the references in this song, being the closer of the album it's about the empire finally fading away, but it uses Jack the Ripper as a metaphor of the perversions of a leader twisting and bending an empires recourses into his will, and eventually causing it's downfall. The line "we will go softly into the night" hits hard knowing the original meaning of the poem it references, telling of how the people almost welcome the end of an empire as a leader they looked up to has showed his true colors, and they have now abandoned his fallowing.
I got into Ghost with Meliora and then Infestissumam hooked me big time. Prequelle was absolutely fantastic, almost a perfect album......then along came Impera. What can I say! Every song is a masterpiece. This is an amazing CD to have as well.! Great insert booklet that came with it. I don't collect vinal, but I do know the record content is even better! If you have Ghost, you have everything!
I've only been a Ghost fan for about a month and a half. They really are one of those bands that I wonder where the he'll they've been hiding from me this whole time. I'll tell ya one thing, though, it's a helluva good time to get in to them.
Hard to think of a Ghost song that’s composed better than this one. The way the album begins and ends with the same riff makes it easy to play on repeat. Considering the theme of this album, it fits. Empires never stop rising and falling.
@@Onyxthefem oh my god, you’re the only other person besides myself that I’ve heard say that!! In Cirice, towards the end when Tobias sings “the scars inside YOUUUU-whoaahhh” he sounds JUST like Chester. Thank you for making me feel not crazy, because any time I’ve said that to someone I’ve gotten “hmm…I don’t hear it 🤔”
This album is full of magnificent songs, and to end the album with the same chords as the beginning riff.....simlply genius! Impera has become my absolute favorite Ghost album, even with the powerful and awesome Infestissumam, and Prequelle on that list, I have to say, I have listened to Impera now about 40 times all the way through, and I am just loving every song on it! Kaisarion, Spillways, Twenties, Griftwood, Darkness at the Heart of My Love, Watcher in the Sky, Bite of Passage, Call Me Little Sunshine, Hunter's Moon, Respite On The Spitalfields, and the two instrumentals, Imperium and Dominion, make for one incredible and gloriously exceptional album from Ghost!
God works hard, but top metal works harder lmao. This is *such* a good album, I'm so glad I finally got to listen to it. I'm still trying to pick a favorite, but this is definitely up there. Especially with the thunder line, calling back to cirice. It's an amazing end to an album and ahhhhhhhh. I fucking love this song lmao
I've known about ghost for a while now, but only really got into them in the last month or so, & have had this album on repeat every few days. this song is one of my absolute favorites, & the outro circling back into the intro like the rise & fall & rise of empires...just perfection 👌👌 I can't wait until they come back to my city so I can finally see them, I just know this song & "darkness at the heart of my love" will sound even better live
This is the best song and is perfect for the end of the album. When I first heard it I cried as I was driving the backside of a Snow Basin on Trappers Loop and it was epic. I love that Whitesnake riff!
I loop listen to this song. I agree with you about the Whitesnake riff and I also thinks that there is something of the band Marillion « Kayleigh » ...I love it all aaaaaaa
@@chupachuuups706 For the Impera album Tobias hired Frederick Akensson from Opeth to record all the guitars in the studio. He wanted an amazing player that would record fast and save him a lot of time in the studio.
I've been listening to this album 3 times a day in the morning while I work for the past 2 weeks now... every now and then I put on some Judas Priest or some Halford or some Offenbach or Dokken.. but even when I listen to those, I'm still thinking of Impera... awesome album and the pic in this video is awesome.. I love his look in the new gowns. These are freakin' awesome.. I would totally effing wear this
I've been a Ghost fan for about three years now, going to see them next month for the first time, but I am truly lost for words with this new album and this track is my favourite Ghost track EVER! Beautifully haunting, poignant, and so relevant even today, goosebumps, tears, smiles, what more can I say?
I love that they added that in there. The song actually has a hidden meaning referencing Jack the Ripper, so using a riff from Still of the Night makes sense.
This song is made better than it already is because it’s about Jack the Ripper. Ghost is awesome. The album is also a concept album about the rise & fall of empires.
This song is the pure drink of an Medieval and EVIL England. Sounds like Tobias in a rainful night, smoking and drinking whisky and telling those horrible stories of a serial killer.
I always thought this song might have been about Jack The Ripper. Respite means like a relief from something unpleasant (Jack is no longer killing) and I believe a few if not all of Jack's killings are from the Spitalfields area in London or very close to the area so to me I get the this whole Jack the Ripper vibe from this song.
I absolutely LOVE Ghost!. I already have tickets for their concert in Salt Lake City this August! Can't wait to see them live!. This will be my first concert ever!
Since I am interested in the saga of Jack the Ripper, I really like the way he crafted this song. I would love to talk to Tobis and see if he also likes the history of Jack the Ripper.
If anybody questions Ghost is the rock band of the century, you need to get your head checked, and checked again. Tobias is a visionary genius for all time. And he's just getting started. Artist of the century. Easily. Any more questions?
Best song on the album. Those final 2 minutes are so somber and yet euphoric. I could listen to a loop of those final two minutes forever
I agree, a masterpiece 🤩
This is a strong track I’m also liking Spillways
In the middle we leaving the city.... over and over😬
Just put the album on repeat, it's the same riff as album intro
Just like helvettesfonster
This album has just sealed Ghost as legends, people will look back at them as classics in the future. We should make the most of living through their golden era.
Couldn't agree more?
The thought of them becoming the next Metallica excites me.
The cadence in which he sings "for the dreams that you dread can become just as real," followed by the "ahh" is so nasty in the best fucking way possible.
Tobias is a visionary very rare for artist like this to come around with genuine talent these days
His influences are all in the right places, fuck the haters. Simple minded fools.
this is like a love song for two runaway demons as the evil world collapses around them and Jesus returns. its amazing. what a great song and album
Is it too soon to point that this is the greatest song Ghost has ever written?
Its a contender.
it is definitely up there
I mean come on it's about Jack the ripper and it's ghost lol ... Plus the storytelling is next level...
Fucking magnificent 👌
Grown man reduced to tears with its beauty and perfection

Which poem is it a reference to?
Tobias lyrics are so flippin amazing 🌒🌕🌘
And yeah sure. This is about Jack the Ripper.
Ghost keeps topping their last albums, hit after hit after hit... And their previous albums are masterful! Tobias is a musical genius!🖤🤘🖤

And the hits just keep coming
I think Tobias got that "dah" pronunciation from James Hetfield and exaggerated it. Love it!
This is the best song on Impera, without a doubt-aaaaaaah
I see what you did there🤣
@@Missunderstood214 I came to say this, but knew in my heart it had already been said
AHAHAHA
Beautiful melody, haunting lyrics, subversive truth, spiritual revelation in these evangelical times... just absolute perfection in a song
Smiles, tears, so much emotion in this song lot of heart in this takes me back to my 80s days. I love this album. BEST ALBUM EVER
Great soft rock from the mid 80's to early 90's, specially the guitar solo that sends me back in time every time i listen to it...
@Pierinhood This album is largely reminiscent of 80s arena rock. Tons of Def Leppard, Bon Jovi, Alice Cooper esque stuff.
It haunts me. I can't stop listening to it
Seeing this live made me burst into tears. ITS SO BEAUTIFUL

I think this is the most beautiful song I've ever heard. Perfection. I love how they transitioned to Imperium at the end.
I love IMPERA !!!
I love so many things about this song, but just had to point out how much I adore how he sings “softly”
He’s an amazing singer! He also sounds like Chester Bennington when he sings very hard

@@TheOfficialSpectralz oh yeah i hear it too!

I love this part 2:07 SO much. Perfect. I really want to learn the guitar now.
The solo is pretty easy except for that little fast part, you should totally learn how to play! It's beautiful.
Frederick's solo...one of the best I've heard in a long time! Just a great song from Tobias. Amazing writing!
Frederick? I thought Tobias is a one-man army for Ghost & just hires musicians to play the music live.
