I've always had a great deal of respect for Warren Buffet, largely because of the way he treated us when he decided to shut down one of his subsidiaries in financial services shortly after 9/11. I believe he saw the collapse of Wall Street long before anyone else did and was wise to get out before the Real Estate Industry triggered the recession of 2008. He paid us our bonuses for that year, as well as our full salaries for 5 months and extended our gym memberships for a year... It's one thing to admire someone for their successes, but I think you can tell a lot more about someone based on how they treat others, especially their employees... Thank you Mr. Buffet. Forever grateful...

"To know you can always come back" "will take you a long way". Thank you. I learned something quite different like the opposite. Fear took that place because of the lack of unconditional love. I couldn't read very well as a child so learning was not something that excited me. In first and second grade when you learn to read, I was in the slow readers group. I never read a book till I was 30. I still read slow a example of public education. An 18 y.o. special needs kid just graduated from high school and can't even do basic reading and writing, what chance does he have of experiencing anything more than poverty? Perfect love casts out fear why is God the only example of unconditional love I've ever heard about until Warren Buffett. Thank for sharing. I wonder how many people have never experience real genuine unconditional love? Now I know why W.B. is so successful Hallelujah!

You may be dyslexic. Twenty percent of us are dyslexic and struggle with reading. There are ways to overcome dyslexia, if you can find a tutor who uses the Orton-Gillingham method, you will be able to read. Dyslexic people are often very creative and have special skills. They are not stupid. Alexander Graham Bell, Thomas Edison, and Richard Branson are some examples. (If you have children, they may have inherited a tendency toward dyslexia, too.) Schools are ignorant about dyslexia. We have to solve this problem outside of schools.

    He only needs 3.
    1. Buy stocks in companies you understand on the troughs.
    2. Hold onto them long-term, sell some at peaks, and then buy more during recessions.
    3. Keep doing 1 and 2.

This was better than I expected. I'm old now and have been, and continue to be, a very successful investor. I've learned a lot over the years, not just about the mechanics of finance but about why some achieve their financial goals and others do not. People fail for a variety of reasons but usually it's because they don't understand or can't control their own emotions. I tell young people that successful investing is easy, just follow a few simple rules. In a nutshell: Live within your means. Things usually don't make you happy.
Save. Invest in common stocks. Index broadly to decrease risk. Invest a cheaply as possible. Dollar cost average. Always emphasize sustainable dividends and reinvest them when paid. The compounding interest effect over time is essential to success. NEVER listen to the talking heads, brokers, financial advisors, analysts or other fortune tellers. NEVER attempt to time the markets. Stay invested through thick and thin. Have faith that the prime movers of "capitalism", the desires of increasingly large numbers of people around the planet to live better lives, will increase your net worth as well as enable your capital investments to help others.

"The Intelligent Investor" by Benjamin Graham is the best book I read in my youth. I read it because of Warren Buffet's success. Obviously, I haven't had anything near the same level of success, but I'm very pleased with my results.
Another book that I found valuable is "How to win friends and influence people" by Dale Carnegie. We're always selling, our ideas, ourselves, etc., having these skills goes a long way to success. In business, in life, in love, it works. The key is doing these things with honesty and integrity, IMO, but how you use the tools in this book is up to you.
I read Carnegie's book because of boredom while waiting in the guest room of my fiance's parents house. I didn't think it would work, but I wrote a cheat sheet list with the idea of trying it that night at the black tie event we were attending that evening. To my surprise and amazement, it worked incredibly well. I made several business contacts that night, all because of applying what I learned in that book, and having access to the successful people at the event.
Take advantage of opportunities as you find them, you need the skills to do it effectively.

    About him disowning his grand-daughter...
Unconditional love does NOT mean you give your children (or anyone else, for that matter) everything you have and everything you own, etc. It means you teach them how to take care of themselves and how to get around in this world. And you never give up on them. You never turn them away, and you help in the way that is most beneficial for them AND for you. There are very few situations in which one should ever consider sacrificing him or herself for another. Those are life and death situations. However, I agree that he should have forgiven her by now, but some people have a very difficult time doing that.

I am a Buffett fan. A couple of telling things. Mr. Buffett is in his eighties and he still talks about the value of unconditional love from his father. He has the insight to know how that helped him and it sounds like he passed that to his children too. Very insightful and self aware thought process behind that statement. The other thing is Mr. Buffett is very very intelligent. He talks of reading all the investment books in the local library by age 12. I commend all of you who want to invest but be aware that Mr. Buffett is very intelligent and educated and he lives for investing as it is his love. If you don't understand investing and live for it, you are better off just investing in a diversified mutual fund portfolio. You might want to include some of Mr. Buffett's shares if you want an individual stock because Berkshire is so diversified it is like a mutual fund.

I got my Degree in Economics 40+ years ago. In the last 40 years I have read all the classic Economic tomes. This (of course) turned me into a rather Conservative Libertarian. The formula is out there for anyone who wants to "take a shot" at becoming a Millionaire, but NOT a Billionaire. Anyone born in the USA can be a Millionaire by age 40 but it takes a tremendous amount of work and you must devote almost every waking hour chasing the Dollar. That said, most of us find a comfort zone and stop there because Life simply gets in the way. Love? Entertainment? Two things that must be set aside because they are both hurdles and take too much of your time. Since I didn't want to forgo Love and at least some Entertainment these hurdles kept me from my full earning and educational opportunities. So, Millionaire? Yes. Billionaire? Not in my wildest dreams. Everyone devoted can earn their "Million" but to double or triple that is beyond my ken...

    • @joaquinotom8921
      @joaquinotom8921 7 років тому

randy109 Nice. I believe a lot of people really wants to be a Billionaire. Although, I think what happens is that when one becomes a Millionaire, they realize that more than the money they really just want to live comfortably; and not that they stop working towards their ultimate goal but somehow they realize that they are thankful for they had already achieved and be contented for it in a grateful way.

I am not sure "Don't care what others think" is the lesson. What he meant was if you know your area more than anyone else then when they disagree with you, you don't have to care what they think. Even then he says he goes back and checks the facts. The lesson really is: be expert at your area. If you are not expert at your area and someone more experienced and more well read than you disagrees with you - you had better care what they think.

Towards end of my retirement at the age of 81,I spent almost a year developing a Framework for My Retirement. The foundation of this framework based on my life across three continents was GIVE UNCONDITIONAL LOVE. After having retired for few months now, anytime something has not worked out, I found that I lacked in my fundamental belief of giving unconditional love as soon as I somewhere in the process and as soon as I corrected it all was well. Hence, I don't think UNCONDITIONAL LOVE is last on the Warren Buffett list, but it is at the bottom because it is the foundation.

I love Warren Buffet, I love that he still lives in the same house he always has, to me that is so normal and down to earth. He made comments about his investments that he started making when he was very young, I agree with this approach.

He was so lazy sitting on his back size and not to relocate to a mansion of 22 rooms like Travolta; wasted his effort with no rewards; not intelligent in my book; He worshiped his cash piling up for whats?

Buffett always wants to own businesses. He only invests if he can not own the whole corporation. This actually makes him The Greatest Business Owner of all time. Investing is secondary to him--as I understand it.

I studied him in Graduate school, and he made money off of failed businesses. Like the housing market, when it crashed the rich people with cash money, made even more money, rented, or sold those properties in bulk.

When asked about the best advice he received at the end.. Warren said, he got unconditional love from his dad, and the fact is "unconditional love do not exist between/among humans(love partners, wife-husband, child-parents, siblings etc) " it is awlays conditional.

Every one of theses "Rules" (except one), rests squarely on the premise of exceptional-ism and achievement - - finding your passion, being independent, driven, "restless" - avoiding risk and seizing advantage. Do you know which one?
Imagine if you conducted an experiment in which millions ascribed to precisely these principals: what would you have? Look around, that one rule will replace all the others and it is approaching us even now.

Sammy Crifasi I agree but Warren Buffer is hardly a true capitalist, he's a gambler who's good at playing odds. If this is capitalism to you, my advice is to consider getting a job and discover what it truly is before you make some really, really, really big mistakes in life.

Warren Buffet is one the most resourceful a corporate who was a great humanitarian. It’s great to find out your passion. My passion is hand embroidery, sewing and music. But I rarely get time for sewing and infact use my passion only to de stress myself. I do get immense joy from them but I can’t rely on it for my bread and butter. I am a college professor. It takes a lot to make that first leap

Many of his attributes I use on a daily basis and I am a believer in that through determination, being passionate in what you do and believe in and following through on your goals, you can be whatever you want.
