Episode IV was on tv the other week and I love the first act of the film. When the Imperial Spy was on screen I thought "I hope MetaNerdz makes a video on the species. It's just such a cool character design." This isn't the first time this has happened. MetaNerdz is definitely force sensitive. He knows what species I want to see before I even know.
Never knew this species' name until this video. Always found them interesting, yet I never gave it some thought to look into them. So it's nice to see this video to learn about them.
I wasn't aware of what their species were called either. In true goofy genre form I had imagined the Cantina spy guy as "turd face" as his vocalizations kind of sounded like someone's butt.
At first, I thought that the "nose" was something like breathing apparatus, not the species' actual nose. I'm still wondering how that stormtrooper on Tatooine was able to communicate/understand what that imperial spy said.
Same way chewie and Han can communicate or r2 and Luke. The breakdown I saw was that since all beings are connected to the force, sometimes intent and message just gets accross via the will of the force. When two beings know eachother after a long period of interaction they naturally start being able to communicate outside the concept of normal translation, kind of like how if you grow up around Spanish speakers you can kind communicate on broad strokes even if you couldn't actually speak the language. So, I think in the lore, that agent had regular interactions with the patrol commander so their comradery allowed them to cross the language barriers Their are also bog stabdard implants that were super cheap that could be implanted that aided in communication, but actual conversation required a protocol droid or actual fluency
honestly their culture is not that bad, especially the whole loving art work thing, except the eating sentient insectoid spiecies but they are basicly glorified anteaters so its understandable why they did that
I've always found this species curious. I'm just a guy who likes learning new stuff about other species, especially when it's sentient species like the Kubaz
In SWTOR there's a special companion naked Altuur zok Adon, a Kubaz. He's a sniper type, and is a strong healer/Dps, equal to the story companions. Love him! Thanks for using a lot of SWTOR visuals for this too. Great video!
This is an example of what Star Wars writers seem to really struggle with: evolution of species. We really need someone with a background in speculative evolution to help on a Star Wars project
Agreed. Hell, just someone familiar with zoology and Earth species just to design them in the first place would help. I play SWTOR, and I know this is probably the fault of it being a video game so it has a small number of basically frames it can put the outward skins of bodies on, but most of the animals look alike and there body shapes are just insane and not very functional. Nearly all the quadrupedal predators are either build like lizards, which at least is realistic and functional, or like some version of a lizard-hyena hybrid with such dramatically shortened hindquarters that I'm not sure what their movement is like, legs somewhat out to the side so they have to expend more energy to support themselves and move, and a massive head for their frame and overly-large, wide, short mouths. The bipedal ones are even worse- just vorantikus with different skins all day long. Except maybe the actual rakghouls, and the flesh raiders depending on if you count them as predators or not. The quadrupedal herbivores are mostly okay except for often having horns that go in front of and/or below their mouths, which given their lack of trunks or opposable limbs leaves them no way to actually eat anything. Not saying they should have custom-designed every frame so make each creature truly unique, but having more of them have the limb-underneath-the-body thing that mammals have, have normal looking-heads and mouths at least sometimes, and either the prey animals sticking to horns on top like buffalo/bison and rhinos have or prehensile trunks like elephants so they have some way to eat efficiently would have been nice. It's hard to enjoy a game when most of the wildlife breaks your suspension of disbelief.
Very interesting to finally learn something about this mysterious species and the guy we all know from the Lego games. A harsh beginning to their history, but it seemed so full of hope and nice things eventually. Then of course, the Empire and later the Vong had to fuck em up. Always gotta be those unfortunate stories.
I remember in the older starwars gold collection when you exit the cantina to go where you see the mini kits you collected, in which if they were enemy's in the show/ movies they would attack each other but if it was this guy they would all kill him then kill each other

Nope, you can't. You can play as human, cyborg, and Zabrak as a starting F2P player. And then there's Cathar, Togruta, and Nuatolan (Kit Fisto's race), which you have to buy to unlock. There are more species available amongst the various companions, you can get, and there is one Kubaz among them, Altuur zok Adon. However, he's from the first Galactic Season, and hasn't been "retired" yet, so you currently can't get him. Yeah, it makes no sense that you can get a character once they are retired, but not when they aren't.
