Once I started into this video, I couldn't shut it off. Even the last part where I wouldn't be able to ride I enjoyed it. With Open Heart surgery I must avoid turbulence (I can't fly anymore). This convinced me, a Full Fat is what I want. Where I'm at (In West Texas) I need thorn-proof tires (thorns up to 3 inches long). You can't avoid them. I sure wish I was closer to you folks!!
Thanks for your good reviews. It's very nice of you to "bring" people with you in so thorough testing with good descriptions were we can follow you carefully and find answers to everything we want. I hope the customers understand the great advantages this fantastic service gives for people if they want to evaluate different types of trikes or bikes. I have been very active in sports in hole my life, but 2,5 years ago I was disabled after an reaction from a vaccine that affected nerves in my neck via worn nerve canals, and I have got exhausted from the simplest things and mostly bedridden. Long history in short, I can hardly walk a few steps with crutches, but the specialists found that my legs can work for at least 30 % power in 20-30 minutes in a laid back position with good neck rest, like on a recumbent trike. Now I'm not allowed to drive a car, and I would like to use a e-trike with pedal assist as an outdoor wheelchair for local transport. But because I get completely exhausted of vibrations I have compared vibrations on camera with your ICE Full Fat and ICE Adventure, and of course the Full Fat is looking great. But then I found that Full Fat no longer has the front suspension also needed for me. And I have asked ICE if I could get aFull Fat full suspension in my case, if this is not possible I have asked for use of 2,6- 2,8' wide volume tires on ICE Adventure. Regardless of how good suspension you can get, the weak/small vibrations need balloon tires, we found the same as passanger in cars. I would like to thank you for your great reviews, and I'm sorry I can't boy the trike from You IN Canada, but I will wish you the best. Best Regards Arne G from Norway.
By far the most extensive review of the Full Fat I've watched. I had already ordered my own Full Fat, before watching, but I note that mine is very close to the one reviewed - I have no doubt that I made the right choice. I really love the trail riding - makes me want to live there :-) There's definitely winter in Cold Lake, AB, and I expect to have this out on the ice, as well as the beach, as well as the local trails, and bike park.

Well done … 1st time I’ve seen one of these (in Australia) … excellent overview and demo … I’d be interested to know about rear indicators option, for the safety when turning and crossing through intersections/roundabouts, for the vehicles approaching from behind? Though, I do not know that these kind of trikes are available here in Australia. I currently use an electric-assisted pedal "hybrid" bike … thanks for the vid/presentation. 👍🏼🇦🇺🦘
the bash guard is extremely useful, especially for things like staircases. I don't know if anyone realizes how good these are at rolling down staircases, or going up, for that matter, let's just say that they're excellent at traversing a set of stairs. that's right, going downstairs on an angle or straight down, it changes your overall ride height as you go depending on how you hit the stairs. also longer stairs will have a different ride height. so if you do a lot of urban riding around a lot of staircases, that bash guard is a must.😏
ICE trikes are brilliant. Mine is the excellent Sprint X rear suspended. I don’t mind if motorists think I’m disabled. They may cut me some slack vs road warrior/mad max per usual. Plan to motorize when sun comes out in Utah. Hill climbs mean only one thing; leave early. Can’t wait to feel some electric assist.
Mark I very much appreciate your comment I have just discovered the UA-cam channel Utah trikes myself and I think that there is a lot of issues in this channel not just their Channel.
First of all we hear of the vocabulary word camber in this video a lot and we also get to see the speed and the grade and it's understated by 5 units per hour in terms of the peak speed that we can see in watching this video as opposed to the writer who during that Peak speed was not looking at the display.
UA-cam also allows spherical like in Google Maps street view cameras to be used and this review was for a fall ride and there was discussion about going out later in the day I would say that it's implied like stay at for winter high noon and during such hours you're going to be using more wattage cutting through the crystallized H2O.
Now that doesn't mean that you're going to have to bring more water this early even though what it is below freezing there is of course no humidity in the air. And you can certainly sweat on a bicycle if you're not dressed correctly oh, and by sweat I mean not just in your lungs.
I have operated an electric trike and I have not done so at extremely cold temperatures to however. I have however as a child ridden a bike without gloves at Sub-Zero temperatures and that is difficult to maintain adequate blood flow through your fingers because your body tries to keep warm in his core and if you don't maintain your core body temperature you will find your body is eager as if eager to sacrifice its fingers if you are you know not with your own debit card because you're only like 5 years old or something and you can get anything on your hands.
Mainly though it takes a village to build a trike correctly and it takes a village to keep cars from being legal within cities and we don't yet have that Village in either case. The forest is fantastic and you don't actually need a chair to enjoy it it's kind of like walking around downtown Los Angeles where you find walking uphill and walking downhill you looking straight up regardless at the trees or the hundred story buildings oh, and your inner ear starts you know protesting a little bit because you're not able to look straight ahead you just want to look straight off you want to look this way and that way but as has been pointed out by this other old man on UA-cam we have been walking for quite a while and with practice our brain has when it needs to get that done at least if there are no Cars barreling down the road and occasionally running off the road into the sidewalk into buildings but in downtown Los Angeles the buildings don't take that as casually as other places see your pretty safe on the sidewalks.
The problem with this video is that the notion that you're going to spend because you haven't brought sufficient wait with you for the tire surface or the tread because you're still talking about bald tires despite the energy storage being on board and you have spent too much money buying a bunch of lithium instead of going to Walmart and spending $100 on a deep cycle 12-volt lead-acid battery with a cheap maybe $50 voltage boosting motor controller that attaches to that battery and sends on very thin wires maybe not two wires but three maybe four or more wires but extremely thin wires I want to emphasize what we mean by Thin wires we need an inexpensive we mean very very durable we mean invisible wire is like the fiber optic pipes that can be installed against the curb to provide everybody with trillions of bytes per second of bandwidth so this to our video in 8k spherical form can be downloaded in a tap you don't like you might pay for a few hundred pounds of gasoline just by tapping your phone on the counter not even slowing down as you prepare to spend however many minutes in hell I'm the toxic fumes under the shade of a canopy.
So you don't need a trailer for the solar panel but you do need to use the lad and you do need to put the battery not on your side but on the directly above the rear wheel axle or frankly need to hang $100 battery on both sides of the axle so that it's well above the ground even if that means using 36 in diameter wheels and you could go with 36 inch radius wheels that is legal in order to be on the sidewalk in parts of the United States your wheels have to have an 8 inch radius and I have certainly significant experience you know being hauled to jail because I was legal but right now the violations of civil rights by the state do not entitle us to easy collection of punitive judgements against the police when they knowingly falsely arrested because we're not evil enough to just sign and say it's okay that you can rest me get on with your day officer if we have any conscience they're going to give us a ride and we're going to get beaten up baby have some ribs broken maybe have our nose permanently bands before we get released because just getting a court to order our immediate release has proven again and again do not matter much. When I was younger I had a systems engineer defending me against the state and he was prepared to go to one cord after an hour as the business hours and even beyond the business hours of a day would allow to drop all his other work of course because when somebody is in custody you have the right to drop all your other work and get them out if you have already gotten the court to order their release and you can bring in whatever higher level of government enforcement armies are necessary to do that but that man was very fat he didn't have a recumbent trike despite having a background in systems engineering and we used to scream at each other for several hours after eating particular project was completed and even during the court hearings we would go into the conference room and we will be screaming at each other for quite a while and then you know they would come in and say well you know what we've been informing the court about your working here and they say that you can't have the judge waiting on you it's great that you guys are working on the case together but you need to come back and the judge is going to make sure you can do it in your law office instead of in this conference room next to the court with you know a couple of police cars having to park outside the court to take you back to jail we're just going to actually cut you loose right here in the courthouse and actually we're going to end this case and thanks for nothing else all. And of course they think of us as assholes. even if they are ungrateful you can expect them to say thank you and have a nice day and they make this error that the classic black and white German film called the Axeman tries to prevent being made by others because in that film this woman keeps getting arrested and eventually released and causing trouble again so what Hitler does is he hires this butcher to chop the you know the unloyal people's heads off like you used to slaughter sheep or something and that solve the problem but for me I was dealing with people who haven't watched much good television and certainly nothing in black and white that was not filmed on videotape and so they didn't know anything and I did get out to raise the kind of hell that I hope to in my dotage or whatever it is pending but going to be a problem for those evil people who and their ignorance Zelda cut my head off when they had a chance. In Santa Monica California you can see the fat girls on their trikes on their cell phones and you know it has to take a Canada to be as naive about the reason bicycles are not confusing and having one fewer wheel but are not accidentally difficult to sleep on WOW getting from one place to another. All youman powers Mobility machines or augmented buy whatever energy storage technology and whatever horsepower injecting contrivances need to separate the running wheels from the braking and accelerating systems if you are using the same Tire well traveling at a steady clip that you expect to use to get your wife going fast or stop your butt or to turn even you are in the third world not even you are without clue indigence and in fact putting your head in the guillotine as if you have something to hide and would rather quit instead of fight. When I was a child everybody understood that you did not bring things and enjoy them if it wasn't something you could pass around and so we do need to get the cars from being manufactured it's kind of like the poppy plants or something we need to get the agent orange we need to get the cars took back to the warehouse there's lots of buildings in Detroit that you could stack them up for 5 we have enough to last a century we don't need to build more cars we just need to stop crushing the ones that we already have and park them not within the city but in Michigan you don't need to have anybody living in Michigan but we can store the cars from the rest of the United States there and on the other continents and then other countries even there are places that you can move the Cars 2 and for the rest of the world where people are actually going to live you can figure out how they can live with some sort of sanity and that does mean being able to take a nap on the way to the forest and if the forest is just the journey you don't always have to be awake you can go ahead and work at home and work at the office and just use your commute to sleep it's okay the wild animals don't mind it if they hear you snoring as you whizzed past.

I love this bike. I have the Riese Mueller on order from you. I need to wait a bit until it gets a little more refined. It needs a belt drive and perhaps the boch system. I am not knowledgeable enough to know if boch is better but from research bosh motor and battery seem an excellent way to go. I don't. know this system.. great review. Perhaps 5 years if I take a spill off of my Present Riese Muller homage GT.
It would be amazing to have a belt on a recumbent trike, but it would be a very big challenge. (All of my bikes have belts, so I understand the appeal!) You need to be able to adjust the boom, and to do that, you need to change the length of the chain. You can easily do that by breaking the chain, or use the Easy Adjust. Unfortunately, neither option will work with a belt.
Fortunately, the placement of the chain at the end of the boom down the middle of the trike, along with the use of the chain tubes means that they chain on a trike doesn't need near as much maintenance as on a bike. Our mechanics are always amazed at the condition of a chain on a trike after a few 100 km's without maintenance compared to a bike - I can really get away with much less maintenance on the trike.
Although all of my current bikes have a Bosch drive unit, I'm really pleased with the Shimano on the ICE Trikes. Shimano allows ICE to specify the install angle for the drive unit, which means they can calibrate the power for the stroke profile of a trike, which is offset almost 90 degrees to that of a bike. This means that even with the higher torque E8000 motor, the power delivery is perfect. This likely explains why any of the Bosch powered trikes available use the lower torque Active Line Plus, whereas any trike manufacturer using a high torque motor is going with the Shimano E8000. Of course, this could all change in the future, and I am not a designer/manufacturer!
I am considering one because I have MS. When feeling good, I can walk fine, but when I get exhausted, my left leg gets weak. On a mountain bike, I am most worried about stepping off and twisting my ankle. I take walk & hikes and I have to plan where I can rest. Here, I can rest anywhere and don't have to worry about falling unless I get really wild in my riding.
The considerations you have voiced here are premium ones.

I bought a Catrike Expedition 5 years ago due to a back injury. I can sit on a DF for about 20 min and then will be in pain for the next 4 to 5 days.
I can sit on the trike all day long, in fact when my back is aggravated I go for a ride.
I have to admit, that full fat looks very comfortable.
Next time I'm heading down island, I'll make a stop.

What sort of back injury?
I thought about getting a recumbent due to back injury but what I found was as my back got better DF were usable all day. Though I don't ride a silly racer that has me bent over the frame with a super high seat. I ride a BMX, 24 and 26 inch currently and a old mtb before that. No back issues, I herniated mine about 6 years ago you see. Its been so bad I could nto walk. Now.. BMX all day no pain.
@@kudosbudo Hi Benjamin, I was a heavy equipment field mechanic for 40 plus years, I'm a bit of a big guy so I tended to act like a human crane, did heavy work in awkward positions. I herniated my L4-5 disc but the x-ray, CT and MRI scans also showed LOTs of other damage. I don't remember all of the technical medical terms but there is a narrowing of the passage that the spinal cord goes through, the layer of fat that cushions the cord has thinned (must have moved to my belly), there is arthritis and some bone spurs. A bunch of other things that I can't remember what it they were. The surgeon told me that he could go in and "try" to fix it but chances are he would make it worse. So I live with it.
I'm done if I have to bend forward for any length of time. I tried my Trek 520 Touring bike to start off, it didn't work, to much forward lean. Tried my mountain bike and had the same effect.
Tried the Catrike out and it was wonderful, no pain at all.
I know lots of people in the recumbent community that have back issues and went to a bent because of it.
I have had more then one person with a back injury tell me that they had no issue getting back on a DF, so....
I guess I'm just special ;)
I would love to be able to still ride a DF, it's hard to ride a bent with a group of DF riders, at least I find it hard.
I sold my Trek, I was planning on doing a few tours on it, broke my heart to sell it. Had a LOT of miles on that old girl.
I'd love to see more comparison videos about delta ((like Hase Kettwiesel) vs tadpole trikes vs quads vs bakfiets and cargo bikes...especially with regard to trailers and bicycle rv's for adventure travel and homeless solutions. I know quads like TrikExplor can pedal up stairs. Are trikes able to do this?
I really feel like these trikes/quads should be more accomodated, along with pedestrians in our cities, and we should move away from polluting, expensive, noisy vehicles. I think this is the future of travel, especially in urban areas. There's a video about "Stroads" by Not Just Bikes that I think everyone should watch that addresses a lot of shortcomings of our society and bike culture.

G'day I live in QLD AUSTRALIA. I have jjust started to save up for one and your review has given me the confidince that i am going to get the right trike. The only thing i would like to know is thus, is there a trailer mount and if so can you do a review on that as i will be camping with a trailer camper. and a shopping trailer. With the pandenic, i want to widen my activites and getting into cycling with a recumbent trike could well be my ticket. One more very inportant qestion Have you done any long trips and how far can you go on one full charge and when peddling, can the motor charge back up the battery?.

Place a decently strong magnet on the bottom of the vehicle be ot bike ,trike,mopad,moped, etc. This will activate the season alerting the system there is a vehicle and let you turn ZZZ cross etc.

I ride primarily on a paved bike trail. I like the bump absorption of the fat knobby tires but I’m curious about the rolling resistance. I realize the Shimano motor assist will probably negate the rolling resistance, but do they reduce the battery range as opposed to a smooth tread tire. Edit: After watching the entire video, I don’t think I would have any issues with the fat knobby tires.
The Jumbo Jims are a fairly efficient tire, so the knobs don't reduce the battery range too much. However, you could always put a slicker fat tire on if you don't need the additional traction provided by the Jumbo Jims.

How many kilometres can you ride the trike
Don't you get dirty from the tires kicking up debris from the road or bike trail, since you are so close to the tires?
If you turn sharply in a mud puddle you can get very dirty! However, when going straight, you usually won't get much dirt kicked up.
I plan to go touring through Australia, could I use the trike for this purpose, interns of trunk bags ect? Secondly is the bike capable of being ridden if the battery was to go flat?
The Full Fat would be awesome for touring, and if you add the top rack you could easily bring 4 pannier bags, plus a trunk bag, plus the side pods. You can ride without assistance if you wish - it will just be a bit heavier because of the battery and motor.
I use a 70 litre banana trike panniers, made by Ortlieb. And over the seat I can hang another pair of banana panniers, containing 65 litre. Made by Radical design, the Netherlands. And you can a top extension by ICE, on your carrying rig. So you can attach you sleeping bag and air matress on top.
Love my Trike... Can you please tell me how you get the speed and grade to show on your video...is it an app? plug-in device?
I use a Garmin Virb Ultra which has a GPS built in.

The Adventure or the Sprint X Tour with the E-8000 would be a bit lighter and easier to pedal, so they should be a bit easier on your muscles.

Yes, Fat Tires are usually a bit slower than skinny tires, but I still didn't have any problems going fast!

That’s a very nice trike but way out of my price range. Are the electronics protected from rain/snow and also from water kicked up from the road? If I’m ever in chemainus I’ll drop in for a test ride! (Ontario here)
I ride all year, rain (snow) or shine, and haven't had any problems - the Shimano system is designed to work in wet and cold conditions.
With all the elctronics, Is ther an gps to display an google map and an horn witch will be loader then an bell ?.

I've been riding recumbent trikes for 4 years now and thinking about adding a fat tire. I enjoyed watching the trail sections of this video which makes me want one even more.
I was considering this ICE and the AZUB Fat or Ti-Fly X. I see this ICE has the front suspension which is no longer available. Have you ridden the version without and how does it compare?
My current Full Fat Ultimate doesn't have the front suspension, and I can't say that I've missed it. I thought I would!

Yes, unless you need to roll over logs, the Adventure handles off-road terrain very well.
Where do you park it so it doesnt get stolen
Trikes are generally not particularly attractive to thieves (unlike bikes), however, I just use a good Abus chain lock to secure it to a bike rack or post if I am stopping somewhere.

Are front fenders available?
ICE doesn't make any at this time. As long as you don't turn at high speeds in a puddle, it isn't too bad without them!

Where does the front suspension come from? It doesn't seem to be available directly from ICE on the configulator.
ICE no longer offers the option of the front suspension.
@@CitrusCycles Just curious do you know why? Were there issues? Do you rec a 3rd party front suspension?
@@benbbritt They wouldn't tell you, but I bet the disk brakes weren't working well with the combo of big wheels and this specific front suspension system, and 70mm drum brakes for such big diameter wheels just felt ridiculous to them and the 90mm version is too heavy.

The reason for fenders isn't all about your face, it's also just common courtesy to avoid spewing road spray from your tires onto the vehicles behind you, lest you get run over and squashed like a bug by an irate monster truck driver sporting his own version of fat tires.
