Thank you guys! They look amazing. Cannot wait to see them in person! These are my dads boots from the 80’s. He’s an Eagle Scout and has logged hundreds of miles in them.
Your father will love these restored boots as a Christmas gift...He'll have a Merrell Christmas, at that. Great work by super skilled craftsmen. Enjoy.
I am not sure why someone would dislike this video. There are a couple of points to make here, Trenton and Heath are brothers working together and that is no small feat. Family doesn't always make the best work mates or business partners. They are doing the videos in their work space, not a studio so audio and video are as controlled as possible. And considering the quality of the videos they spend a lot of time editing it as well. And finally most can not imagine the amount of practice it takes to get good at a trade. Not everything can be learned from books. Thumbs up guys.
How are you guys not verified yet? Honestly; 200k subs, ACTUAL cobblers reviewing shoes, quality videos and very informative. Sometimes youtube's just wack.
Such a great restoration. The natural leather midsole really finishes the look. It really has a vintage feel to it, which in my opinion is really stylish and being used quite a bit now in modern hiking boots 👌
I absolutely love when I get off of work and come home to a brand new Trenton and Heath video! You guys are one of the few channels that I immediately stop what I was doing to watch your new content. Keep up the great work as always, gents!
After 5days of watching your channel I bought whole set of sapphire cosmetics, sprays and some brushes. A lot of my shoes are made from suede. I spent 4days cleaning all my shoes and my boyfriend's and some of them looks like new, and some of them even after many years of wearing looks amazing. This keep me busy and chill. Thank you guys!!!
How about doing a shop tour video? Showing the machines and hand tools you use with their names and what they are used for. As well as the other supplies and products that are used in the business.
Magnificent job guys! I'd love to do this for a living after being in the tech world for decades. Just losing yourself in a craft has to be pretty therapeutic. Thank you for sharing your skills with us.
This brought back memories I have as a child. Going to pick up repaired shoes with my mom and or dad. Was always fascinated watching the cobblers work. Happened on this video looking for leather repair. Thank you for such a detailed video.
I always think there’s no way they’ll look new again then I’m always amazed then the guys work their magic. Those look fantastic. Masters of your craft.
Thank you and greetings from the UK. I came across you quite by chance. The video brought back memories of my father, a master shoe maker and shoe repairer. I was particularly interested to see you heating the glue to form a better bond. My father did that - he called it vulcanising. He used the same process while making bespoke fishing waders - these had canvass uppers on Wellington boots and had leather soles with studs (for grip) or thick felt (so as not to disturb the fish!) or the original rubber cleats. He had the same machines you seem to have. My father often brought home shoes which needed new welts - he would hand stitch these with waxed thread which had a pig’s whisker at each end to thread the waxed thread through holes made with an awl. He really could make shoes talk! Thank you again.
Incredibly satisfying to watch your workmanship, unique machinery and listen to your process. Gorgeous old school hikers. I have a very similar pair of Vasque Sundowners that I’d love to send you! I know it’s been said a million times but in an age of throw away your whole trade is a welcome respite and reminder of skill and pride in a true craft. Both your deliveries and descriptions were engaging and a joy to watch. Thanks!
the deafening of the noise during hammering is just one of the hundreds details these two gentlemen take care of, just to pursue quality with what they do. Nice touch and great work, as always.
Love seeing hiking boots being remade. Very few manufacturers make boots for that in mind anymore. Only ones I know off the top of my head is Lundhags, Danner and Zamberland (which make them with a norwegian welt).
I'm kicking myself that I never visited you all during the 13 years I lived in Nash Vegas!! Thank you so much for sharing your videos, the process, and your reasoning for your decisions. I take a deep satisfaction in knitting (one of my crafts of choice) watching other craft artisans enjoying the process itself!! Love your channel and content. - a Nashvillian expat now in Portland, OR
The difference from before and after was amazing. I was just commenting about your work to someone that wS unhappy with her boots from a local Cobbler here in Lynchburg Virginia. I told her to send them to you in the future
You guys reinspired me to take care of my boots. My last pair when I first got them I was taken care of them but as time went on not as much and then the uppers split just right above where it meets the sole but I did get over two years of good hard work out of them. My new pair I put on a good coat of waterproofing conditioner on them regularly and try to use my rubber boots more often cause I constantly work with water and cleaning chemicals that do a lot damage to leather over time but the downside to wearing rubber boots is they less comfortable especially when working on ladders.
Hey, just a quick little detail....Vibram is an Italian company, and the word Montagna (the name of the soles) means mountain and it is pronounced mon-tahn-ya. Just thought you might want to know! Great work guys!
Had Vasque Sundowners as a Scout and higher hundreds of miles in them. I bought a pair of Wilderness boots in the mid nineties and wore them until about 2002 when the sole delaminated. REI gave me a new pair but they just delaminated again. Wish you guys had time to resolve them!
I always enjoy watching your channel. I have never been able to spend much on footwear (it probably costs more to repair one pair of these fancy boots/shoes than I have spent on boots/shoes in my entire 65 years of life, lol), but the care you guys take and the explanations for the work you perform make for very interesting videos. Thanks.
A beautiful sight to see a real Artisan at work.this kind of work was carried out everywhere in England .every postcode had access to real cobblers but sadly virtually all gone.yes they still exist but only in handmade very high end shoes that are out of most people's price range.i wanted this work carried out on my berghaus boots cannot find a single cobblers.berghaus actually told me they no longer offer this service and would be advisable to purchase a new pair.biggest joke is they sell boots with replaceable vibram sole but you cannot get them replaced .
I simply adore my Merrells!!! I have so many pairs of them. I’ve had an ankle fusion and these are so comfortable for me to walk in. You did an exceptional job, as usual. Very nice!!!!!
Hey, great video! Only comment would be you are working on a pair of Vasque Sundowner. I could be wrong but they jut look like a pair I put a ton of miles on. Take care
Wow, awesome video. Thanks for showing the work it takes to restore a pair of boots like that. I just bought a pair of Merrell Wilderness boots. Its nice to see that they will indeed last nearly damn forever if properly cared for (or not, haha!)
I like how you guys explain the "why" behind your decisions and choices. That makes the videos so good. Thanks. Also, again, amazing work. Good work is art. Artisan? See what we did there?
I very much enjoy watching these videos and supporting you guys by buying supplies on your website. The only thing I can ask to change is the sound. I want to hear the shop at times! The lapel mics sound great, but I want to hear the machines and the pounding! Keep up the great work and awesome content!

A really beautiful job. They will last for quite a few more years. As an aside, if you are only hiking, get trail shoes. You will put less stress on your ankles. Your ankles are designed to flex more from below than from above. If there is a trail, generally, you don't need boots.
Agreed, when you hike with trail shoes you can go fast and be more agile, but when you hike with a heavy pack for a few days the extra support of a boot prevents injuries.
@@matthewleary4194 Unless you are yomping across the country in muddy terrain, to go into war, there is no reason for carrying such a heavy load, and therefore no need for ankle breaking boots. Just wanted to say thanks! I recently decided to try my hand at some simple leather projects and I bought an inexpensive set of tools from Amazon. It didn't come with much as far as directions, or uses for each tool; cheap awls, punches, and the like, and I figured all of them out save one. I wasn't sure what it was supposed to be used for until I happened across one of your videos. I don't know what it's called, but discovered the very useful pointy crochet hook thing that you guys use to sew the welts onto the shoes! Kinda like an awl, but easier I think. They remind me of the Vasque Sundowners I wore to Philmont in 2002.
Do a video unboxing and wearing them!
Great video. Have a pair of these with hundreds of hard trail backpacking miles. I'm glad to see these well crafted boots restored
I wish Merrell still made these. Great job refurbing these!
I love the extra attention you both put into the shoes to increase durability and longevity.
Thank you!
The leather midsole also just makes these look just that much better. Great work!
Definitely a good call leaving the midsole natural, it complements the cuff liner perfectly.
Thank you!
Thank you!
Yes, I agree. Natural midsole was the best thing to do. I own Merrell hiking boots and I finally got to see a refurbishment on shoes I usually wear.
I agree the natural leather looks great. another fantastic video.
