    Nice video on a good range of shunts. I use Renogy batteries but monitor with a Victron Bluetooth shunt.
    I look forward to your presentations as they are clear, precise and useful. I look after a number of small off-grid systems here in our off-grid community in Wales.

    Really could do with this, West Sussex here and new subscriber! I’m currently using a screen grab of voltage levels to work out where my two Renogy 100 amp batteries are after use. It’s a nightmare as over discharged them within 5 days by plugging my PS4 , tv and sound bar in for a few hours longer than I should have! Anywho great video and good luck to all who hope to win. X

    I need one of these, renogy
    I bought 3 now, I noticed about a year after I bought it, it's 50amp, haha, I'm not running a 5kw inverter off that, I really need a 500 amp version, my peak current is about 280-300amps, so a 500 amp shunt would be a good fit, plenty of head room! And I'd pay shipping! 😎

    Maybe I had a faulty unit but my experience with the 'ebay shunt' measured things like amps, Kw etc in half. I ended up going for the Victron Smart Shunt, it was a heck of a lot pricier but it works flawlessly.

    Hi, great video! Do you know if the Renogy Meter can work work with non-Renogy controllers (for basic reading of the physical meter, not for use with the Renogy app)? Also which of these monitors allows you to see both the current coming into the battery from the panels as well as current going out? My understanding is that for the cheapest one you have, that if you want to see bi-directional current you need to have two meters? Is that true? Thanks so much for making this video.

    • @DCGUY
      @DCGUY  Рік тому +1

      Hi, you don't need 2 monitors, almost all shunts read bi directionally. I like the victron smart shunt, but junctek are popular too but bit more wiring involved in set up.

    Hi, new subscriber, I use the renogy but dont set the alarm function, found it to be a bit of a pain, if I had a load on the battery, diesel heater for example, if the battery got to 12.1v the alarm went off as set, but if I turned the diesel heater off the alarm would still go and battery monitor stayed at 0% even though when I checked with a volt meter it was back up to 12.5 and when you start to recharge either driving using b2b, solar or mains it got to 20% and didnt charge anymore, I had to reset to full/max (130ah agm) but after deleting alarm function I can clearly see percentage, ah, power being used or charging at a glance. Hope that makes sense.

    • @DCGUY
      @DCGUY  Рік тому +1

      Thanks for watching and subscribing it's appreciated and yes it makes total sense. The alarm function is geared towards lithium as opposed agm or other lead acid chemistry due to the way they discharge. Good info 👍 thanks for letting us know.

  • @funkyronster
    @funkyronster Рік тому +1

    I think you should point out that the budget shunt only measures current in one direction. This might be OK in some circumstances, but most applications need to measure charge and discharge.

    Hi again, I see in your video there's an on/off switch on the side of the battery, does the switch need to be on when recharging it please? The reason I ask is my ebike battery needs to be switched on when recharging it and & wondered if its the same procedure. Thank you.

    • @DCGUY
      @DCGUY  2 роки тому +1

      Hello and thanks for the continued support. The switch only turns on the USB ports, the charger port goes directly to the battery. I'm not a great fan of the supplied charger and would suggest charging this battery in the usual way using main terminals.
