    Thanks for the vid.
    Question if ok.
    So you run your solar panel negative wire via the shunt 1st then to the MPPT controller??
    AND then also run the MPPT controller negative wire via the shunt 1st? (Instead of going directly to the negative post on battery)
    Thank you.
    Cheers

    Just revisited the iTech spec page and it says that the ‘C20 Rating usable Amps 10V: 105Ah’.
    So, like you said in your installation video perhaps the ‘Effective capacity’ (e.g. usable capacity) = 105 Ah and the ‘Nominal Capacity’ = 120Ah?

      Thanks so much! We are still loving the simplicity and info from the unit. No it didn’t come with that, but could easily be purchased from an autoparts store (even auto barn usually has pre made cables)

  • @petcuyvers

    Thanks for this well made video. I purchased the same model battery monitor here in Australia after buying a Lithium battery and realising after I now need a special type of Solar/Dc-Dc charger. I went with the Redarc BCDC1225D as that was the brand they sold at Autobarn/Jaycar Lismore N.S.W. and I needed to return/exchange a simple battery isolator I already wrongly purchased ( I made mistakes and learned as I went along haha ). Next time I would most likely go for the Enerdrive that you used. Installed my Renogy Battery Meter last weekend, but watching your vid helped me set up the parrameters as instructions not so clear. I only have a 100AH and now entered 80AH after your info. Still need to test evrything out as mine seems to be float charging most of the time as pleny of sun and driving here haha.

    • @AussieVanAdventures
      @AussieVanAdventures  3 роки тому

      Hi Pete, Thanks a bunch for the feedback! Really appreciate you taking the time to comment! Yes the battery has been good so far, cant fault it. Autobarn are usually pretty good with returns etc.. So hopefully that was all ok. the redarc charger is a great charger, we have a 1250D in the caravan paired up with the BmPro and we get up to 80amps of charge in the van.. so we cant speak highly enough of the redarc charger, The enerdrive is a little more bulky.. but has a few more options, so both are great. Safe travels mate!

    Fresh out the box, does the renogy battery monitor automatically detects the AH of any battery you hooked up to? Or do you have to manually entered the AH of the battery into the renogy monitor device?

    • @AussieVanAdventures

    Hey man, I assume you’ve got a battery charger. Where is your negative cable from your battery charger going? On my car the negative out on my ctek goes down to my battery. I was thinking of putting my shunt between my ctek and my negative terminal.

    • @AussieVanAdventures
      @AussieVanAdventures  2 роки тому

      Hey mate. Every single cable on negative side HAS to run through the shunt.. so the shunt HAS to be between all loads and the battery including the charge negative cable and battery. A good way to picture it is that every. Single. Bit of power in and out has to run through the shunt. So its battery.. then shunt.. then every negative in/out load. Nothing can connect straight to the battery.. only the shunt.

  • @bobscullion3533
    @bobscullion3533 2 роки тому

    hi, do you run an earth/ground cable from P- or just an earth/ground cable from the negative on the battery itself, thanks Bob

    • @AussieVanAdventures
      @AussieVanAdventures  2 роки тому +1

      Hi mate, every singe earth needs to go through the shunt, there can be no earths between the shunt and the battery, all earths need to be on the load side of the shunt. This way every bit of power that leaves the battery has to pass through the shunt and therefore every bit of power is measured by the shunt. there is chassis to ground everywhere else.

    I am about to install and have watched several installation videos.
    Question:
    Is CAP (capacity) = to usable Ah or Total Ah of battery.
    We have an iTech 120x lithium and you put in 105Ah as usable Ah, whereas I’ve seen other videos where they enter the Total Battery Capacity.
    Which is correct?

    Just installed one of these. Nice little unit but for some reason as soon as I start my car it pops the percentage straight from say 50% to 100%. Full voltage of my agm is 13.2 but charger bumps it upto 14.2 during bulk charge. Not sure how I'm going to get around it. You'd think the unit would be smart enough to count the amps put in during charging and just take them off what's been taken out. Bit disappointed with it at this stage.

    • @AussieVanAdventures
      @AussieVanAdventures  2 роки тому

      Hmmm.. that doesn’t sound right at all, the unit (shunt) knows the difference and only calculates usage by amp flow.. not voltage. Do you have every single negative cable going through the shunt.. every. Single. Negative cable. All in and out negative cables

      Anyone running an AGM setup willing to share what high/low/alarm settings they configured theirs with?

    • @AussieVanAdventures
      @AussieVanAdventures  2 роки тому

      @@NatoPotat0e very strange.. double triple check that every single negative wire is going through the shunt. Every one, voltage in and out all has to go through the shunt, even one single negative wire not through the shunt will give bad readings.

    • @NatoPotat0e
      @NatoPotat0e 2 роки тому +2

      Yep yep all wiring was in order. The issue was the full voltage setting.
      To get the right behaviour I set the full voltage setting up to 20v (higher than that battery monitor will ever see even while charging at 14.5v bulk or 13.5v float) so it never hits that value and automatically defaults to 100%.
      This still shows me the correct capacity of 100% even once charging stops and battery voltage returns to around 12.9v. The time till full charge now seems to work correctly too.
      So appears that this full voltage setting is redundant as I can't see a situation where charging would work as it's at a higher voltage than the battery, without automatically defaulting to 100%?
      Hope this helps anyway!
