LNEX 500A Battery Monitor Review!

- The LNEX 500 Battery Monitor is pretty nice despite the fact there is a misspelling right on the front of the monitor! I put it through a full discharge test using a SunFunKits Battery so I could compare the BMS software results to the LNEX monitor.
Thanks to my 7 year old son, Keaton, for pictures in the video!

Looks like they listened and spelling battery correct now. Just received and installing this today. I won’t push the shunt too hard and I wouldn’t trust the BMS in any battery maker to be the most accurate, more like in the ballpark. Enjoyed your video. 👍
That's good to see. The misspelled name put a bad taste in my mouth. The shunt does work pretty well. Thanks for the comment.
After decades of use I finally shelled out for a high quality volt meter. I have many ways of measuring voltage and I was never sure what to trust. I sure hope my good meter is actually trust worthy! 😅
Segal's Law: A man with a watch knows what time it is. A man with two watches is never sure.
Thanks for the info!
I have been using an Lnex monitor on my 560ah Lifepo-4 prismatic battery for over a year and it has worked flawlessly so far. It's a great value.
It does work very well. I've heard they fixed the label on the front also! Thanks for the comment.
That was interesting. I guess you can't always tell how a product will work judging on the looks of the workmanship. Curious to know if it would stand up over time.
True. I plan on setting it up permanently, but that won't be for a few months.
Thanks for sharing. I would say it’s hard to believe that manufacturers QA processes fail, but I just wrapped an electric blanket as a Christmas gift and I think they misspelled “blanket” on the box…
I’m very picky when I look at battery monitors. My first one was a Renogy and it left a bad taste in my mouth. Quality wise it was ok, but when I tried to compare even the voltage on the display to a voltmeter, it was off. This one just seems to scream “don’t use me!”.
I’m regards to the long cable length, I think a lot of these cheaper monitors have the van/camper builds in mind where the batteries are in a cupboard and they want the display in the cabin somewhere visible.
Good point about the cable length. I didn't know about Renogy having issues. Good to know. I hope you keep up with making content. It's good to see the decision making process and mistakes along the way!
@@OffGridBasement thanks. I’m regards to the Renogy, voltages we’re always off. Then when I tried to use their app to view details, the app info didn’t match with their display, so I had different values across the board.
I hope to just keep sharing my experiences. Initially I just started recording things because YT was free storage and videos take up a lot of space. Never thought people would actually be interested in any of this.
If you had 2 100amp hour batteries in parallel would you set the monitor for 200Ah?
That is correct. If they were wired in series it would stay at 100ah.
Great and informative video! Just ordered one last night. Let you know if they corrected the spelling. Probably not.
Spelling is dumb, but the monitor works well! Thanks for the comment.
@@OffGridBasement Spelling corrected!
Great video I was wondering what size ring connecter and wire gauge was used for the power to the shunt. M8 and 24 AWG?
That is correct. It uses very little power.
@@OffGridBasement At what voltage? Have both 48v & 12v.
Not a bad little unit, like you the spelling mistakes for a common word like Battery even for a non-English manufacturer is inexcusable, I hope they can address this over time.
I guess they are also relying on the copper bolt/nut for most of the connection to the shunt !! Nice work, keep it up
Thanks for the comment!
For a more solid connection... sandwich the ring connection between two nuts. The bolt itself can handle the amperage
Thanks for the info and the comment.
What size fuse for battery positive?
It's a 150A fuse connected to a 2awg wire. Hope that helps and thanks for the comment.
It's actually pretty good. But they need to fix 3 things, the in your face spelling error, the way the terminals connect to the shunt, and price needs to be a little more competitive.
Yes, yes and yes.
Great job! I like mad Jim 😡 hahahahaha
Haha! Thanks!
You know the renogy 500A battery monitor is $61.99 in amazon
Thanks for the info! Probably a better product.
Renogy is junk, works good for awhile but never know how long it will last, and when you have a problem the warranty is nonexistent
Well, there ya have it..... you can judge a book by its Misspelled cover
True. That drives me nuts! Thanks for the comment.
No mate, your so called thin shunt metal plate/strip on the ‘PCB board’ (not plastic) is to drive the PCB electronics, not your load! The load is more than adequately connect via the fasteners and respective connecting blocks on either ends of the shunt, even if they are not pure copper… you should know better! Yes, I agree about the spelling error, and trust they will rectify it in future production updates.
My mistake! Thanks for clarifying. I've heard they have since fixed the spelling on the unit. Thanks for the info and the comment.
You know, it’s incredible. How Americans always make fun of everybody in the world about their language, and we are the only one that speaks backwards from everybody else.
So true. Our language is stupid. Not using the metric system also kills me.
The wrong spelling on the shunt is very annoying, I was looking to buy this now agggghhhh.
The shunt does work pretty well, but the wrong spelling is a deal breaker. Thanks for the comment.
Language is not a sign of intelligence, can you spell Hindi or Chinese or Japanese correctly? Are Japanese products poorly built because of English spelling errors? Just do away with this exceptionalism. If it was a spelling error in Chinese yes but an English spelling error for a Chinese speaker should not be a deal breaker just as a Hindi spelling error for an English speaker.
They fixed the spelling
