Hmmm - I use mostly thinkpads; do you have secure boot on? Be sure to turn it off in your BIOS (PRESS ENTER AT BOOT THEN F1 FOR BIOS) Or, are you booting UEFI mode? The Grub-install command must match your boot type. If you look into those, I'm sure you can get finished!
mkinitcpio is a bash script used to create an initial Ramdisk environment. mkinitcpio.conf allows the user to set modules, binaries, files, hooks and other settings for that Ramdisk. it creates the kernel files in /boot so you can boot a system in different ways.

Understood - I'll create some videos showing how to add all the helper apps. This might not have been for you, but I'm. interested in creating for all.
I don't have an Nvidia card, so I only know that there is some support - sorry it wasn't up to par for you. However, I feel hype is quite feature-full... you might have possibly had some issues b/c of recent hypr CHANGES - I've had to tweak the Hyprv4 config files for things like workspaces to display correctly - this was because of hypr changes, and not an 'issue'...
My dot files are linked if anyone wants to see how I've expanded hyprV4 for my needs. It's a great jump off position for new TWM users that lets them see advanced configs much quicker than just 'making their own'. For example, I no longer have the 'ability' to switch between hyprv1-v4; that kind bind switches my layouts for me..
He pronounced out /etc, but earlier he didn't pronounce it fstab. He said "nano ek cetera," but it's not "ek." It is ett with a t sound, not a k sound. And fstab is generally not an eff stab. It is short for File System TABle. fstab like eff ess tab. A lot of people say ek cetera, so he is not alone. But, why didn't he just say, ee tee sea?
I'm with you, a full 13 minutes of this was just the arch install and it wasn't even a proper guide, it was the (imo) worse of the two arch install scripts. I fully expected the video to start with a fresh Arch TTY and then go through the decisions that could be made while installing and configuring Hyprland with a discussion of why they were making the decisions they did. Do you know how it works? When the circle pops up, you just start typing your password. Enter after unlocks the device...
Otherwise, you can modify ~/.config/hyprland/hyprland.conf and remove the 'exec-once swaylock' line - but then you'll have to find a new lockscreen helper application - welcome to the world of TWMs... did you figure this out?
Hey been trying to figure out how to assign the enter key to a bind, for example i want kitty to open with super+enter instead of whatever key it is, its escaping me as I'm not home, but i replaced they key with ENTER and enter and neither seemed to work...anyone know a solution? (also awesome video!)
Edit: i used "return" and that did the trick!
Try 'return'
archfi did nothing thhink it gt replaced with the archinstall script
I'll have to look into that - maybe a new video for 2025 is needed.... archfi has always [historically] worked well for me. I WILL investigate, tho!!
@@techheart6090 any news? because I followed everything you did, yet when I rebooted it sent me to the installation menu again
What should i do if i have 2 screens with different size
You'll just add the display, and the size you need, in your main config file. wiki.hyprland.org/Configuring/Monitors/
V4 doesn't work with me. I get aways the Hyprland default screen. How can I disable, delete everything and do it again?
How does it 'not work'?? There were a couple fixes in the video - I don't think there's been any MORE changes w/ hyprland that would mess it up... you can always goto github.com/soldoestech/hyprv4 and run the install script again, or follow the manual instructions - but I'd like to help/update the video if you had problems. I know others got it installed and working... fill me in. :P
@@techheart6090 I notice that the installation was very clean in the video. My give some errors and I needed to install some packages by hand. I used sudo, and also I started follow the video in 15:40. The only thing that work was the display manager, the login section. I will try again!
@@techheart6090 well, I was getting an error like "locale not supported by C library" in many commands. So I repeat the locale-gen process and every thing works fine now. Thanks man, it is awesome!!
I dont created user accounts but at first login reqrd what to do
Create a user account?? Press ctrl+alt+F5 (or any other F key...) to open a new TTY terminal. Create a user. Login.
I genuinely hate admitting this, if anyone gets a gpg key error when attempting to install wlogout, then attempts a yay -S wlogout and gets the same error...
:: Import? [Y/n] y
:: Importing keys with gpg...
gpg: keyserver receive failed: Server indicated a failure
Connect to a VPN and try it again... the answers provided for most searches will not work but one of the threads mentions it.
15:50 - you've just installed yay. Why?
@saamimons5644 No, I meant he enters command for pacman but has yay installed already.
I don't remember - I probably was just working of muscle memory and know I need yay, not realizing I already didso??? :P
i followed your tutorial but after installing the hyprland config, I am not redirected to the Desktop, I'm in the lockscreen but I'm stuck here for some reason it doesn't accept my password saying login failed
As stated in the wiki, HYPRLAND may have changed some settings that cause issues; I would first check the Hyprland (GitHub) changelog. Furthermore, I will do a quick follow-up video that follows my 'So you want to learn hyprland? LONG VERSION' video and try to address any issues - I'm sorry you're having CURRENT troubles, but I'll try to whip something up ASAP!!!
Fuckin Same stuck on login screen
I like your manic energy. LETS GO
Do you have a link to your configs?
36:03 takes hit from vape
What's wrong with that???
This script is awesome thanks for the tip😇
I love Hyprland! I'll keep making tutorials.
got as far as trying to install a bootloader, but that's as far as Arch would run on my thinkpad
@@techheart6090 It is a pre-uefi laptop (T410), so I needed to use the DOS setup instead of GPT in my drive setup. Thanks
What is that em kay C3PO file for?
mkinitcpio is a bash script used to create an initial Ramdisk environment. mkinitcpio.conf allows the user to set modules, binaries, files, hooks and other settings for that Ramdisk.
it creates the kernel files in /boot so you can boot a system in different ways.
@@techheart6090 thank you for the explanation.
thank you for actually not using the archinstall like every other youtuber and actually explaining how to connect to the internet LOL
For sure. I have videos covering all the arch install scripts, too!!
This is why I will probably never switch from KDE. I just want a default normal way to use it, with a tutorial on what key does what. What's so hard about making default configuration usable and giving you a 5 minute tutorial on how to use it.
Hyprland is NOT a 5 minute WM. I suggest to you; Linux Mint. It's great - and will get you up and running in 5 min.... Hypr is for folks w/ 5 hours.
@@techheart6090 I know it's not a 5 minute WM, so is configuring kde/gnome/xfce/cinnamon. The difference is that I know how to close and open windows, and I don't get errors that cover my screen and can't be easily hidden.
16:07 that was funny 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Gotta have that internet connection, baby!!! :P
paru for life man!!
I switched over some months ago... I use paru for EVERYTHING. :P one command update/upgrade - w00t w00t!
Have you installed arch Linux on a virtual machine ?
Did you find how to do it?
WOW--- a DYNAMIC TYLING system... I LIKE it---- do I have to know all the keyboard BUl___hit??? I hate command line crap... is it necessary- or can this be done all GUI???
It might seem daunting at first, but it's really worth getting used to using the command line. It's easier than it seems.
@@EarlZMoade No it isn't.. that crap is unrelated to anything and I learn by association... PLUS the main reason I hate keybanging bs-- is I have only one eye now and can't STAND looking at text a lot.. Only reason I can type (half- fast not fully fast)..is I touch type- and just correct a letter or two here and there.. but I HATE command line BS..
@@davidwayne9982 Nobody gives a fuck how you learn.
if you don't want command line then you probably don't need linux...
@@sunofabeach9424 BuLL....t!!!! I've done linux for many years now- and very very little command line CRAP-- programming is NOT necessary.. that's what GUIS are for..
👍
Don't mind me, just a nixos user trying to learn how to use hyprland from an arch video lol
Hypr on NixOS is extra fun because of where nix installs its packages - making using standard hypr themes more difficult. Glad yer here!
Wait, you have time to watch this video? Don't you have to configure your flake.nix?😂
me here on fedora
His name's not YAYyulack it's YUMyulack. Crazy me!
i like how you used a few words of mandarin in an english video 🙈
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
nano
My hyprland is only 8 mb small and doesn’t show up as display manager to choose
Did you follow the instructions for installation???
Gotta love the guy’s energy LOL
BOOM! :P

how to open a new terminal window. please help me, plzzz
Add your terminal emulator to a hotkey, to execute it.
This is from my conf file:
bind = $mainMod, KP_Add, exec, xfce4-terminal
which makes Alt and numpad + open xterm.
Master+Q, babay.

YEEEEEAHH
Lol!!!! :P
Nano is easier to use. Good tutorial. 😅
Agree, but if you just try vim for a month you'll never go back. Theres a cool 'vimtutor' that's installed with the basic vim package - it's really helpful to get started. I use neovim now, but it doesn't come with vimtutor...
@@techheart6090 Spacemacs or Neovim doe
nano is for peasant
Lol - it served me well when I didn't know vim. If that's someone out there, just uninstall nano and start using vim!!!
@@techheart6090 Yeah me too, until I found Geany, I've become a scum😅
how is this learning hyprland?? you're just running a bunch of scripts off of the internet.
Understood - I'll create some videos showing how to add all the helper apps. This might not have been for you, but I'm. interested in creating for all.
nvm it suсks аss. nvidia GPU support is sad and integrated cards are not supported at all. screw this half-baked thing
@@techheart6090 turns out, this problem with NVidia belongs to Linux itself...
What you mean? I run hyprland on an Nvidia card just fine along with a IGPU.
I'm the 1000th like if literally no one cares
woohoo!!!
true arch users would never use the install script 😂
LOL - oh stop; true Arch users know HOW to install from command line, but use scripts ALWAYS. :P
nice, but be a cool kid and make your own config :P
My dot files are linked if anyone wants to see how I've expanded hyprV4 for my needs. It's a great jump off position for new TWM users that lets them see advanced configs much quicker than just 'making their own'. For example, I no longer have the 'ability' to switch between hyprv1-v4; that kind bind switches my layouts for me..
Where are the dotfiles linked?@@techheart6090
(I have found your dotfiles on ur github, thankyou for the great video btw)
He pronounced out /etc, but earlier he didn't pronounce it fstab. He said "nano ek cetera," but it's not "ek." It is ett with a t sound, not a k sound.
And fstab is generally not an eff stab. It is short for File System TABle. fstab like eff ess tab.
A lot of people say ek cetera, so he is not alone.
But, why didn't he just say, ee tee sea?
oh, I'll try better next time - might just be my way of pronouncing tho.. :P
I just pronounce it etcee. Sounds better imo
i cringed so hard when you made all members of wheel sudoers. there is a sudoers group for a reason.
Really? I've been using wheel since last year...
Gross no one wants to watch you install an OS much less arch and all the decisions you made. I thought this was on hyperland
Instead it seems like they're content to hand wave scripts they don't fully understand. I know how to find and run a script and copy a config file, this video got my hopes up.
