    I always find it amazing how much thought you put into your projects and not just throw something together like I have seen on some other channels. I have always tried to do the same, but you have brought up excellent points that even I wouldn't have thought of until sometime after the fact. That's one reason I soooo enjoy your channels! Can't wait to see Parts 2 & 3💜💜💜

    Another great video Andrew 👏. I am a truck driver and I appreciate you thinking about us. I am so glad you went to 90 ft. instead of 80 ft.,it puts us at ease coming into a driveway. The fence looks great, 4 board definitely looks bigger. I like your thought process when it comes to doing stuff. Looking forward to the gate video.

    Turned out really really nice ! Simple and straightforward = ) The only thing I would have done differently is to cut the posts an inch above the top rail either sloped or, better still, then capping them with some sheet lead or copper. A massive help to longevity by keeping water from sitting on the end grain of the post. Maybe not necessary in all situations but a little advice for others = )

    This is a good and timely video. We are replacing rotted posts in our driveway. One of our cypress ponds went dry this summer and we found a bunch of sunken pond cypress logs in perfect condition. We are planing to use a few of them for new gate posts. We are running 2 12ft farm gates across and put a SpeeCo latch in the middle. They can lock if ever need be. You can use U bolts to mount a speeCo latch to both gates, if you lack a middle post. We plan to add wheels to both sides. I have 2 way speeCos in my barn and padture gates and I love them! Eventually we will replace it all with nice security gates if we stay on this property long term lol. I keep getting unsubscribed somehow lol.

    Always enjoy your videos. I have similar needs for getting horse trailers and big truck and trailers off of a skinny 2 lane busy road out front. I have put a pipe entrance 80 foot in from the road. Because of the weight of pipe gates I went with 2 10 foot gates instead of 1 20 foot gate. They swing in towards the home and barns. Looks good and works well. Had the gate openers installed by professionals though. Got tired of getting out and opening gates or forgetting to shut gates. lol

    • @TKCL
      @TKCL  6 місяців тому +1

      Many ways to do it. I did some quick math to include gaps and board widths to know my final height. I started with the bottom run keeping every board level. Then all you have to do is measure off the fist run for the remainder of the the other runs.

    A couple of years ago I dragged home a bunch of long pallets to redo some wood on the perimeter fence of my property, haven't done jack-all with it though since I forgot entirely that air tools need power and there isn't an extension cord long enough for me to reach the 3/4 of an acre to the roadway LOL Since that time I have gathered different tools to achieve my goal - there is currently stock fence encompassing the entire acre, but it has the road-facing portion with a wood facade to create the "fancy look" So soon I will be replacing the broken or messed up boards and will be painting the tops of the support posts purple, far more polite and endearing than the no trespassing signs. I do wonder where that purple idea came from though.

      Clean stone drains but it moves around under tires. "modified" stone or basically everything 3/4" and below compacts, but isnt water permeable. I recommend modified, but must slope 1/4" per foot so water drains. If water puddlea anywhere, youll get potholes. Too much slope=water runs off fast and carries the fines with it. Too little slope= water ponds and creates potholes. Raise the final grade 2" above the surrounding grade, and slope the dirt away from the roadbed. Most important thing for driveways=water management.

  • @YosemiteSam01
    @YosemiteSam01 8 місяців тому

    How about where the Driveway meets the Highway? I would think it would be a good idea to widen the access area there. I would think it might keep a truck out of the swale or ditch.
    Is there a code that states how wide this must be? Is there a Limit to the width?
    Can you create an access area for the USPS vehicles to get to your mailbox?

    • @TKCL

    Looking at building a small 20x20 boxed garden fence. Always wondered why you and others just dry fill the whole with cement instead of pre mixing and pouring? How long does it take for the dry cement to actually cure doing it that way?

    • @TKCL
      @TKCL  4 місяці тому +1

      For something non structural, dry pour works great as you can pack the post in and it's solid. When you pre mix you typically brace the post and let it set overnight. Cure time for dry pour really depends on the moisture content in the soil or rain. Could be ready next day, or take a long while waiting for rain.

    Leaving it natural or painting it? It would probably look sharp in white, but that might be too much too.

    Have you considered a sliding gate instead of a swinging gate? Are you having an opener?

    • @TKCL

      This whole project started due to a very generous viewer sending out a nice gate kit, I'll be installing that soon.

    That is a nice entrance Andrew! I have a question though. How come you cut-off the access to the road paralleling the boundary fence? Seems like you mow that area.

    • @TKCL
      @TKCL  9 місяців тому

      I have already made paths through the lines to access those areas.

    Make the gate post holes square or they will rotate in the holes when stressed. Hinge alignment is critical, especially when using operators. 30 plus years experience here in Florida.

    Going to widen the widen the entrance over the ditch? Could you do a dual gate?

    • @TKCL
      @TKCL  9 місяців тому

      Entrance over the ditch?? Not sure what you mean. If you mean the road, absolutely not. All kinds of rules, permits and cost associated with driveways. Not doing a dual gate, I want a single. Less stuff to tear up and have to always be in harmony with each other.

    There are chemical mixes that work better to hold the posts and protect the post against rotting and they have no shrinking. You likely know but just thought I would mention it.

    • @TKCL

      If your referring to the foam, I'm not sold on its long term reliability. It's not solid enough to not deform over time with heat and cold ground expansion, plus twisting and shrinking of posts.

    Thats just me though.
    Another great job.
    God bless.

      We discussed this and didn't want the distraction of 18 lights by the highway, people don't need to be seeing that. We will light up the gate and keypad area.

      @@TKCL use just caps to protect the end grain or you can treat them yearly to prevent moisture penetration.
      That's why I said with or without the lights.
      Although the post are treated the top grain will absorb moisture.
      Any way love the content.

    It's your place but I would cut some of those trees. Seen too many fences, side walks, etc get ruined because of root growth. Any tree or even shrub that with 6-8 foot of anything can cause the ground to heave up over time as the roots grow. Suddenly your fence isn't level anymore. It sucks to go back in 5 yrs and have to rebuild the whole thing because your small tree grew just a bit.
