    In the military we used the term “harden target” this gate will definitely help with that approach. Even if it is able to be defeated or bypassed most average criminals will move on in search of an easier victim. Pretty cool build!

    Love my Ghost openers. Ours have been going strong for a few years. I will say you may be to buy different batteries. Unless they have switched brands, the batteries they send are pretty cheap and have a short life.

      Hey Daniel! I remember watching your video of you installing your unit. I'm happy to hear that yours is still working well, that seems to be the common concensus among people with them. If I see any issues with the batteries, I think I'll swap over to a marine deep cycle battery and box. Take care!

    Have you considered setting up a separate smaller Yagi antenna with an amplifier pointed towards the gate to extend you internet connection to the Ghost box?
    BTW: You can cover the solar panel with some cardboard to make it safer and easier to work on the electrical connections.

      That's why I suggested a smaller Yagi...basically it's a narrow transmission and pointed towards the ground...assuming it would be on the same tall mount you have the others on it would be angled downward so it wouldn't go much farther than the edge of the property line at the road...and it should be encrypted/password protected anyway :)

  • @acew280
    @acew280 10 місяців тому +1

    I installed a similar set up on the road going to my shop
    One thing you may have overlooked is fire department access.
    Your local fire department has a certain type of switch that only they have the key for
    Varies by department that serves your area
    They are quite expensive
    They also make a little red box that just has a little micro switch inside. And upon opening the box it triggers the gate to open and stay open. On mine anyway
    You can put any padlock on it of your own. And since it's clearly marked fire. The fire department knows to cut the lock and as soon as the door drops open the gate opens.
    Seems mine was like $30
    Check with your insurance. Mine said without this installed they would not cover loss from delays of the fire department getting to the fire
    Nice install 👌

    Couple suggestions. Make you a backer board for the control boxes. Makes them sturdier, harder to tamper with, protects from UV.
    Get you a DC to DC buck converter to hardwire the keypad to the 12v batteries.
    Consider adding a switch to the vehicle sensor so you can turn it off while mowing or doing other work in the area, leaving on vacation, in case it shorts out etc.
    As far as people breaking in, that pin holding the opener to the post makes it a 5 second job to break in. I have tools in every vehicle so I personally would replace it with a bolt and nut. I do see why most people wouldn't though and I totally agree with leaving it with the pin. Ambulances for instance.

    • @TKCL
      @TKCL  10 місяців тому +3

      Good points. I'm not going to try to secure this anymore, especially the pins in case of operator failure. Any half motivated theif nowadays has a crowbar, cut off grinder or bolt cutters for easy entry. These types of gates and "security" give a false sense of security. They are there to keep the random kid or passerby from wandering in, delivery trucks out, or in our case uninvited guests.

    • @ridemfast7625
      @ridemfast7625 8 місяців тому

      Ghost controls keypad and remotes have a "party mode" feature that allows you to keep gate in open position. Works great when mowing around gate sensor. I wire tied the stock pins making it very time consuming and tools required to remove the pin. Also installed per county laws, a fire department access keyed switch from Knox. Not cheap but makes it legal and if theirs a fire the fire dept will not rip the gate down...

    • @TKCL
      @TKCL  8 місяців тому +1

      @@ridemfast7625 I use party mode all the time. Knox boxes are not required everywhere. I went by the fire station and talked with emergency dispatch. All they wanted was a special code they put in their system for any emergency response. I made one for them only and no one else.

    Andrew, like Daddy always said a lock is only to keep an honest man honest. also I have the mighty mule and had to replace the batteries every 2 years. I went with a 100 amp hour lifePO4 in a battery box, (had to get a liFEPO4 charger) added a 20 watt panel to the 20 watt that came with it and have not had any issues with the gate not opening because of power. we just had a real cold snap of below freezing temps. one night -3 in TN and the gate still opened and closed as needed. if the mighty mule goes out will be replacing with ghost. thank you for taking time to do these videos for us.

    Nice Job Andrew, we have a lot of high winds at our place ,we have an 18ft 2” tube gate, but in high winds the gate operator is not able to close it on its own. You say y’all have high winds too, so I am betting you are going to have this issue as well. Basically we have to get out with the remote and assist the gate while it is opening or closing, depending on whether it’s fighting north or south wind.

    • @TKCL
      @TKCL  10 місяців тому +2

      Our winds come and go, they are not constant. What worries me is hurricanes and our crazy thunderstorms with 50+ mph winds. The lock takes care of that concern.

    You done an amazing job explaining the installation. Very thorough. One issue that we seem to have is constantly having to adjust the Zombie lock because the margin of contact is extremely small so if the ground shifts a bit or the nuts and bolts losen a bit it throws of the alignment between the Zombi lock and the henge. If you have a video on how to permantely correct this, that would be great. I guess I'll call the company for advise as well. Thanks so much for explaining the multiconnect accessory, I had been searching for this.

    It is best to inform your local ups, fedex, usps, dhl or any other carrier of the change in location for your packages. I understand that there is a sign posted, but delivery drivers sometimes are just oblivious. they will make a note for your address and make it easier for deliveries.

      I've ran the gate a lot over the last few days that have been cloudy. No issues thus far. I can always add more panels or a bigger panel, I need to see what the maximum specs are of the circuit board.

    Instead of replacing the screws on the sign of the gate with more screws, perhaps some rivets would be a better solution. Could even use riv nuts so you could remove the sign for maintenance and painting. Just a thought.

      Not a bad idea, I need to look into options. I couldn't believe the wind sheared those screws. The second to last storm had crazy winds in it.

    That might have been an easy install for you but most home owners would have serious difficulties. It looks good but I would like to see what problems come up in the next year or 2 as an auto gate opener that doesn't work is much worse than a manual one lol. That lock for instance looks essential but if it ever doesn't open you could burn out the opener quickly unless there is a safety. Good to have that easy remove pin when things go wrong. Very nice camera work and instructions btw thanks.

    • @TKCL
      @TKCL  6 місяців тому

      The lock must open before the actuator engages. There's also a key for the lock and as you said you can pull the pin on the opener.

    Highly recommend a teflon ramp at the lock side of the gate. Maybe a redesign latch pin with ramp on the woodside. Just enough to alleviate some of the weight strain. Out here on the Oregon coast I had to use it car battery on our Ghost Control because we don't get enough sunshine.

  • @sebrofc

    Like that setup, slicker than shit with that solenoid lock so the damn gate is not flapping in the wind and has some actual security.

    • @TKCL
      @TKCL  4 місяці тому +1

      Exactly! High winds ruin gate openers, especially in our state with hurricanes and crazy thunderstorms.

    Very nice system. How far is the house from the gate? You should be able to use a Ubiquiti UAP-AC-M-US. Setup an IoT separate wireless network and connect all your home automation, security cameras etc to that network. I have the UAP-AC-M-US transmitting wireless 700ft away from my house. If the gate is further than that you might want to look at getting 2 of them and use a solar panel with battery on one of the UAP-AC-M-US antennas which would mesh to the UAP-AC-M-US you put on your house.

    • @TKCL

      I can easily add an extender to get Wi-Fi down there, but I am not convinced it doesn't add some security risk. Even with a good network and password, there always seems to be ways around it. If I didn't work from home 24/7 the internet option would be far more appealing for me. But I'm almost always home unless running errands.

    Doing some research on how to set up an automatic gate on my property. Need to have access for utility company to access their small site above the house if I'm not home (they have a right of way) to their property via my private road. Had so many questions - lock? keypad? exit sensor? This setup has all the accessories I would need and now I just need to find someone to make a nice decorative gate instead of using a pipe gate from tractor supply. Thanks for this vid! Subbed!

      Did you watch my gate build video? The base support for that goes four foot in the ground, fans out into a pyramid shape, and has 640 lb of concrete in it plus rebar. I've seen zero sag in it even after several rains and the ground getting saturated.

    Suggestion on cameras and placement.
    Dont leave the more expensive ones visible.
    But put some “sacrificial” lesser expensive ones sort of easy to spot.
    Then truly camouflage better cameras that also monitor the sacrificial ones.
    Thieves like to cut first cameras they see.
