This theme should NEVER leave General Hospital. I think it's the most fitting and productive song ever produced for daytime soap. Most fitting for The Best soap in my opinion, being General Hospital...This theme offers a grand finality to a show that has stood the test of time and deserves music worth living up to..Verdell of St. Louis
This is the closing sequence of GENERAL HOSPITAL for March 31, 1993. It is memorable for the fact that this was the final time that the nearly 20-year-old opening/closing visuals since April 14, 1975, were used, as well as the final time that the theme song "Autumn Breeze" in use since July 26, 1976 was heard.....The new credits the next day on April 1, 1993, were updated for GH's 30th Anniversary. This was the first time that the new 1993 letterbox opening was used along with some closing credits (some in Craw Clarendon Condensed font in white, some in pink until in May 1993) in still shots from the same episode, as well as the first time that the theme song "Faces of the Heart" was heard.
The LA-USC visuals started in April of '75 (the same day that OLTL premiered their first sunrise opening) and ran until July 23, 1976. Autumn Breeze came the following Monday, July 26, 1976.
I'll never forget how it was always considered a "female" thing to do: watching the soaps. Well, not like I care. I have been watching soaps since I was a little boy and I still love them and no one's opinion matters! One great memory is getting my stereo-typical head-banging rocker male friend to start watching! He became a fan. Fell in love with Anna and idolized Duke (when that weird Jonathan Paget character took over). People that don't really watch the soaps don't know what they're missing. There's something for everyone if you look hard enough
I THINK the debut of Autumn Breeze if I'm understanding the history correctly... I know they had the racing ambulance against that L.A. hospital up until at least '75 (as per another You Tube clip I saw - maybe one you posted, I can't remember) but with orchestra music. This music we see right here is quite literally what I remember when I was practically out of the womb. ABC was the Queen Bee for half my family while the other half (specifically my grandparents) watched CBS.
GenXorcist1976 my mother watched GH back in the early to mid 70s. I can remember a blue background with the iconic General Hospital in white font. She also watched As the World Turns on CBS, when Lisa ruled the storylines!!
LOL, at first glance I thought it was going to pay homage to swan song for Autumn Clayton, that character in 1987 that never amounted to anything. Yes, I remember this well: the transition to the new theme and the colorful opening. It was definitely a welcome facelift. But in retrospect, I really hold this closing dear to my heart. Sometimes I actually add it to music playlists. I could literally be jamming to Aretha and have this come on next! All the ABC soap themes, come to think of it

Sparring with people about this theme and the 90s is interesting. But anything beats that mess they have now. Boo!
This reminds me of my grandmother, who is still alive today.
I love this song because it reminds me of my grandma, I miss her so much.
I miss those days
For the love of God Please bring that song back
From your fingers to God’s eyes.

This happened on my dad’s 70th birthday.
Boy, does this bring back good memories.
This would make me cry so much

It literally was... this opening debuted like 5 weeks before I was born - I feel so attached to it knowing its history!
I was a 80s kid and at the age of 44, I can appreciate these same feelings. Great times back then outside of family drama.
OMG, the end of an era... the end of my innocent childhood!! WAAAAAAAA!!!!! :(
Love this😊
Running home from watch it on ABC way go

HAPPY 60TH Anniversary To GENERAL HOSPITAL
This theme should be played for the 60th anniversary. Happy 60th GH!🎉
Some of the technical staff had earlier worked on shows like The Facts of Life, Married with Children and Who's the Boss.
I miss this theme. It was nice.
@billyralphweeden spent years tryna figure out who wrote this love theme man... memories
Plus, you are thinking of my video, but it was doctored by someone else, featuring a replica of the zooming title used from 1975-78.
I remember watching this ABC program on television.
@jnadle1 - and on others such as Family Feud w/ Richard Dawson, the final season of Diff'rent Strokes, Silver Spoons, Benson and Mr. Belvedere.
Watch the video titled "Jack Urbont interviewed on TV by Susan Minsky".
Are there lyrics to "Autumn Breeze" ?
Yep-- ua-cam.com/video/URdhj-CdDQc/v-deo.html
Do you mean the visuals, or the debut of "Autumn Breeze'?
