- Interview with Jean Coday, President of HomePride Bank and President of the Laura Ingalls Wilder Home Association, by Missouri State University Dean of Libraries Tom Peters. Interview took place at Rocky Ridge Farm (where Laura Ingalls Wilder wrote the "Little House" book series) just east of Mansfield, Missouri, on July 21, 2014.
Topics discussed include Laura Ingalls Wilder, Almanzo Wilder, Rose Wilder Lane, Roger MacBride, Abigail MacBride Allen, Rocky Ridge Farm, Mansfield (Mo.), HomePride Bank, Bank of Mansfield, the "Little House" book series, Laura Ingalls Wilder Home Association, Laura Ingalls Wilder Historic Home & Museum, Little House Heritage Trust, and "Pioneer Girl: The Annotated Autobiography."
Going to Mansfield and saying thank you to Laura at her grave, was one of the best moments of my life
Thank you for all you do!
I loved the little house books I am forty and I still read my favourite books from the series little town on the prairie And these happy golden years
Wow. Great interview but the maintenance people obviously didn’t get the memo not to trim weeds that day!!!
I know! Someone should have run out and told them to work somewhere else for a bit. Super annoying!
Visited there many years ago and really enjoyed it. Think I'll go back this summer and see what's new.
20:45...The Hoover Library does, indeed, have the manuscript for ON THE WAY HOME (technically, not a "Little House" book).
I visited the Laura Ingalls Wilder home in Mansfield around 1980-ish. When I visited again roughly 10/12 years later a small separate shed like building that had been there in 1980 was gone. It had been Almanzo’s work shop, indeed it was a cobbler shop where the tour guide said Almanzo had made some of his own shoes. There had been various tools and even an incomplete pair of shoes in this little workshop back in 1980.
When I revisited in the early 1990’s one of the people working there said the shed had been torn down. Does anyone know more about this?
Interesting! Thank you.
Coday.....I wonder if she is a relative of Blanche Coday. In the series of books following the life of Laura's daughter Rose Wilder (when Laura and Almanzo move with Rose to Mansfield Missouri), one of Rose's close friends in Mansfield was named Blanche Coday. She was a town girl and Rose was a farm girl, but they were good friends.
I was wodering just the same...
What a lovely woman - seems so kind ❤️
What a wonderful goal they have for the farm. Do you think there is a chance the farm articles would be published? Thank you for the interview.
Wow! For such an important interview, you'd think the lawn work would have been put off!
is she still alive today. and where is she located in Missouri. I'm going to Missouri in June and I would love to meet her.
+Brittany Lee We recommend contacting the Laura Ingalls Wilder Historic Home and Museum; she is the director of the Wilder Home Association. www.lauraingallswilderhome.com/?page_id=64
I looked Jean Corday on Google . She died in the fall of 2018. She was 88.
Very interesting!!
Is she related to Blanch Coday, Rose's childhood friend??
As far as we know, she is not. Coday is her married name, and she did not grow up in the area.
Would be interesting to know if her husband's family was. I'm ready to return to Mansfield! Grown up loving the Ingalls/Wilder family history!!
what is the backround sound its very loud
Sounds like they're doing yard work.
did she know Laura?
+Brittany Lee I don't believe so. She moved to Mansfield a few years after Laura passed away.
cool
will Pamela Smith hill b there in June too
+Brittany Lee We don't know of any upcoming visits, but she can be contacted through her website: www.pamelasmithhill.com/
+Missouri State University Libraries OK. thanks.
The yard work being done outside made this hard to hear at certain points.
