Anita Baker's voice is truly unique. I remember a choir director telling me once that when you just listen to Anita, because of how 'weighty' her voice is, she always sounds like she is singing deep and low, in alto or possibly even tenor, but that when his choir sang arrangements of her songs, he had to use his highest sopranos to hit some of the notes.
Besides her voice, she is an incredible musician, writer and producer of music, and appreciates her musicians, often gives shout outs to them in concert. This is from an hour long live concert called One Night of Rapture, taped in DC. In it she sings both songs of her 2nd solo album (Rapture) which exploded, but also some jazz standards. You can find the whole thing on YT
Me feeling all those gut punches at the same moment you did. Great performance and great reaction. 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼 Edit: and I had forgotten how great the bridge is.
Hi THX for a great video. The Bass player is Gerald Albright @geraldalbright that at the time played the Bass in Anita's band. BUT he went on to be one of my favorit saxofon players ever. Take a look here from 3:20 where he switches to the Saxofon - same Anita tour that the video you posted. ua-cam.com/video/soZl5t30Lhc/v-deo.html
