Every black child in the 80s - 90s grew up to Anita. This is nostalgia for us. This Saturday morning house cleaning. This is weekend cookout while Unc grills and Aunties fixing sides. This is black love. Anita and Frankie Beverly!
Yes. All of her music feels like home. She is a staple in all soulful and/or R&B homes. You will hear at least one Anita Baker song at a cookout, family reunion, or holiday get-togethers. I would definitely say she is in the talks when mentioning Patti LaBelle and Chaka Khan. Joe got it right on the last video. Her voice is different and you can tell it's her. She has depth, a different tone, and dimension in her voice. Beautiful.
Yes, we call it “The D”… and yes Anita is a warm slice of nostalgia. This was the soundtrack of Saturday mornings while the house was cleaned, and every cookout, and kickback. ☺️ takes me back to simpler times
Yes she absolutely is home. The love for Anita is deep. I love seeing everyone’s comments saying how she makes them feel and what way she’s part of their memories.
Oh! Anita is my whole childhood! Every time I hear her, I think of Saturday mornings, Mom in the kitchen washing dishes, Dad cussing at birds outside, me sitting on the living room floor playing with Barbie dolls, and my annoying brother trying to run his hot wheels into my leg 🤣
Yes, Anita reminds me of my childhood. My mom played Anita all the time, and especially Saturday mornings during our time of cleaning. Now, I repeat that tradition when it’s time for me to clean…I play her and other 80s and 90s artists ❤️
I was laughing for a good 5mins at “short track roller skate speed skating”! My godmom said “wait… wtf is that?” and we just started crying laughing trying to picture it. 🤣🤣🤣
she absolutely feels like home! my mom's favorite artist. played alll the time in the household. so comforting and warm. my parents are both from "the D"!
Anita is definitely home, lots of late night parties we had with Anita and a bunch of other 80s contemporary jazz and r&b on in the background and me being told to go to bed cuz I need to stay out of grown folks business lol
When I was in the USAF and CD’s were the newest thing, I had Anita Bakers Rapture album on repeat play, low volume all night long. I had my own dorm room due to my security clearance. So I understand that “home” feeling you were describing. Thanks for the memories! ❤ Anita Baker!
Oh @TheKittsPajamas you did a big one this week! You got Pop Joe smiling and Joey bopping. He’s manifesting that he’s been to somebody black family gathering. Mike is setting up another sunset list consisting of Anita Baker songs and other quiet storm classic. Girl, you done made these two reveal moments in their lives. Good job!!!
Anita has that soulful Jazzy sound. This entire album is fantastic 👌 👏. I listen to it in my car. Love me some Anita Baker. I saw her in Vegas a couple of years back. Her voice makes you feel what she is singing. She absolutely draws you in, and you get lost in the music.
My sisters and I (along with our friends) used to go skating every single weekend. It was our “club” since we weren’t old enough for the club yet. In fact sometimes when the dj played go-go we all would take our skates off and go in! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🙌🏾🙌🏾
Hey guys… you nailed it. Anita is the real thing and it comes across that way. But watching you two dudes watch and appreciate this tune also came across as authentic and real. Love it. Keep up the good work and stay humble.
Yes as a Detroiter Anita is home it is the D and the one your friend has as tattoo is that D. Anita is a hometown girl she still living in the city I believe. P.S. in Detroit we mainly roller skate so she was at roller rink
I went to several Anita Baker concerts when I was younger. I talked (OK, I lied) my way backstage so I could meet her.😂 They thought I worked for the record company. I neither confirmed nor denied it😂.
Yes! One of the songs I was hoping would make it. Love Same Ole dowwwwwn. Instant mood-lifter and then the video? Nothing but a full heart and warm and fuzzies.
Smooth Jazz became popular in the 80s. Kenny G, Sade, & Anita Baker are three of the biggest artists from this genre. George Benson, Bill Withers, Bobby Caldwell, & Grover Washington Jr. also had hit songs.
Well hell boys, if you're ready to go down the rabbit hole of legendary & iconic artists from 'The D'...... you'll be in for a treat! We're talkin' Motown (that's MONTHS of videos right there), Aretha, Smokey, Diana, The Winans, The Clark Sisters......MUSIC boys, MUSIC! 🎶 🎤📻

Mike has a band. I think Joe (glasses one) is his manager. They're brothers. A few.weeks ago Mike was doing some concerts in several U.S states. Mike has said his band was once signed with LA Reid's label who has produced for artists like Toni Braxton, Usher, Pink, OutKast, TLC etc but it fell through when he left the label. The people there didn't believe in them like Reid did.
This song is from the 80s for some of you that don't remember the 80s were roaring the music then was cool then it is today some of the music today is okay but not like the 80s.
Ain't nobody got time for that. DC didn't take off because of Part 1's slow groove. Part 2 (the remix) is what put people on to DC. No No No, Part 2 is the banger.
I reaaally hope you will one day do Anita Baker Live Week. Her live performance of this song, for example, is a different animal. Nobody rides the rhythm like Anita Baker.
