  • NON-NARRATED VERSION: • Tales from the Branch ...
Hop along for the ride as we chase an elusive Amtrak movement to Professional Locomotive Services, a small locomotive shop in Northwest Indiana. Dash 8s, branch lines, and equipment where it shouldn't be... doesn't get much better than that!
    Hope you enjoy!
The Much Too Long Creator's Note:
The first (but technically second) of yet another new series I'm starting, Tales from the Branch Line. This video is shorter, and because of that was quite hard to write a script for... too much to say for such a fast-paced chase that day! Regardless, hopefully it's tolerable enough. On another note, market research (for lack of a better term lol!) shows that UA-cam viewers LOVE Amtrak content... so being my first Amtrak focus, I'm curious to see how well this video performs.

Hi, thanks for that. I looked-up PLS on Maps and noted the neat appearance of their premises. Also I noted the Salvage and Breaker's Yards close-by and the Network of Junctions to other Yards & Railroads. Thanks for posting.

Thank you for watching! The network of trackage in southern East Chicago (the EJ&E Hammond and Whiting branches, as well as the IHB's East Chicago Belt Branch) have always been my favorite... I'd love to someday make a video just covering them. Time will tell!

Awesome little documentary! That was a fun day lol. Didn't get to see the little debacle with the switch at 9:00, got a good chuckle out of me. That switch is so rarely used I'm surprised it hasn't locked up.
At a previous occasion, one of the Amtrak employees asked me if I had an EJ&E switch lock key handy, my only reply was "No but I should have one..." Out of all the people he had to ask The J foamer lol

Thank you, it was great to catch up with you that night! The next crew should probably have a blowtorch handy just in case... lol!

I always find this move very interesting. I only saw this once in September of 2021 at PLS by accident. Great job on this beginning of a series!

Thank you very much! I also caught these guys by slim chance after work one day in September 2021 but didn't have a camera on hand. I bet it was the same one! Small world!
Love to see a sense of community thriving in these comments too!

this first SC-44, 4626, appears to be getting retrofitted with an ALC-42 nose cone at PLS right now. Not sure how much longer it'll be there, but it should be interesting when it gets released!

Awesome video! I've always wondered who delivered those chargers. Great to see the Dash 8s on those lines!

Thanks Ryan, glad you enjoyed! One of the oddest (in a good way) operations anywhere around Northwest Indiana!

That switch probably wouldn’t throw because they left it under tension. On my rr you must stop 50 feet from the switch. Looks like they stopped directly on it

5 feet or 50 feet it doesn’t matter. It’s a facing point movement too, no part of the switch is under the engine.
