Mike Patton is the most dedicated artist alive. I don't understand how he finds the time to create so much exceptional music without making the idiot rounds on late night talk shows. Patton is an impressionist more or less and he "borrows" a lot of his vocals from other people. It is no different than any comedian who does the same thing with impressions of the way people talk or act. The only thing I will agree with you is that Bowie added more of himself on a personal level to his music. Patton seems disconnected from his music more than any other artist I have ever noticed. It's like he is a plumber and he is there to do a job. He ain't got time for sentiment. I guess that is how he is very productive in many different projects.

Ich kann es beurteilen, ich spiele Klavier und komme aus einer musikalischen Familie. Mike Patton wakes up one morning and thinks to himself, what project am I going to do next? Italian Pop Songs? Perfect!
Patton proving once again why he's one of the most underappreciated musicians of our era. He is that guy that everyone was a fan of...... of course! Think about it? Frank Zappa in his time, underrated, now it seems everyone you talk to from that time period, well of course they were not only fans, but they saw him live several times. Patton will be the same in 10 years. Just wait.
