I love how Ben says he couldn't be a Hollywood screenwriter because he was a conservative but anyone who reads his writing can see it's because he's terrible at writing.
It's even funnier to think this is the guy who preaches about personal responsibility and your results being exclusively a consequence of your own actions. To him, prejudice could never be a valid reason for you not to get a job or become professionally unaccomplished at a certain industry, UNLESS you're a conservative!
@@nanda_ Exactly! The ability for conservatives to drone on and on about personal responsibility and then turn around and play the victim is astonishing. It makes no sense, a homeless person starving on the street should pick themselves up by the bootstraps, but poor millionaire Ben Shapiro is the victim of Hollywood bias through no fault of his own. He's funded by oil billionaires, people have been able to find success in Hollywood with no money at all, but this guy can't make it happen? It's pathetic, he pretends systemic problems don't exist but abdicates all responsibility for his clear lack of talent in an industry that is less and less accepting of mediocrity.
@@fungo6631 Yeah, but that's a financially motivated decision by executives, it has nothin to do with values. He had a thick beard and a sea-deep voice that sounded like the howl of metal gears scratching against each other. His jaw was cut in a perfect 90° angle, almost as sharp as his piercing eyes. His smile..."
That doesn't surprise me at all, considering his stance on gay rights. "If you hate a person, you hate something in him that is part of yourself” -Herman Hesse (poet and an author in the late 19th century)
"6'3 in his bare feet" is a distinction only made by a man who is acutely aware of how much taller his shoes make him look. Like, I know this guy has more pairs of platforms than I have heels lmfao

The hypocrisy is ridiculous
I always feel like modern conservatism is basically defined by how hypocritical you can be. If they were some sort of all-life-is-sacred hippies and argued that life began a bit earlier than science was perhaps comfortable with, and would take a wholistic approach to it that included for example capital punishment, police violence, war, but also possibly less directly related things like animal welfare or strong health care systems, well, I'd hope that I could respect that. A guy from a supposedly Jewish family is spewing Neo-Nazi hate and is secretly a gay furry? *HOW IRONIC!* And this is why I hate any kind of fascism or Nazism just as much as communism. Extremist political views never worked, still don't work and will continue to never work in the future, all while causing immense pain for those who live in such authoritarian systems. I had to get brainwashed by these far-right thinktanks two years ago via geek culture controversies (the critical failures of Cats and The Last of Us 2, for example, that alt-right UA-camrs overblew out of their true proportions just because of their uber-conservative "Eww, furry and gay bad!" agenda) to come to this painful conclusion.
Ben Shapiro isn’t a National Socialist, he’s a Globalist Capitalist. He said race isn’t important and supports mass immigration. (Unless it’s Israel because he’s a Jewish Supremacist)
As a US soldier, Ben's depiction of the military is the funniest thing I've ever heard in my life. I don't know if he's ever seen a soldier of any army in his life
Between his chicken-hawk tendencies and utter contempt for too many people that don't fall in a very specific location in his thousand-layer Venn diagram, Ben would mock a serviceman having trigger discipline around civvies before shaking hands with one.
Anticipate Ben getting plenty more attention. Why? Because two of the toughest talking guys you kept hearing so much about made sure they sat out the War while "stationed in Hollywood". Now before I give you their names, plenty of Actors in Hollywood signed up. One of them became a highly decorated Bomber Pilot, others did their combat service admirably like so many other Americans. Clark Gable (for example) joined but was held in Reserve (never saw Combat). The majority of American men were held in Reserve for WW2 (the men who saw Combat had been "tested" and were experienced). My father was a Combat Veteran of WW2. They are less talkative about War. Nothing to prove and not much to share with others. War against a capable enemy isn't romantic. The 2 idiots constantly in the national spotlight and adored (and television would remind you to adore them if you didn't) were John Wayne and Ronald Reagan. Both of them never shut up about "the glory of War". Neither got anywhere near one. That's why television is going to make sure that you hear more from Ben, it doesn't matter that he is a scumbag, it didn't before.
Yeah I'm an Army veteran too and Bret Hawthorne is the worst kind of Mary Sue nonsense. For one, lots of generals have reached that rank by age 40. Douglas MacArthur was a brigadier general at age 28. Unless Ben means the very specific rank of "general", which is commonly called a "four star general" because the rank insignia is... spoiler... four silver stars. But even if that's what he means, it's still stupid. Being a bad ass murder machine doesn't get you promoted to general, successfully serving in various staff positions and a healthy dose of politics does. Officers above the rank of captain are rarely anywhere near combat, and flag officers especially so. The last general to die in combat was in 2014 when an allied but disgruntled Afghan soldier opened fire on a US base in Kabul; prior to that, it was an admiral dying in a helicopter crash in Vietnam. Generals and admirals don't fight, period. Audie Murphy, one of the most decorated soldiers in US history, who earned the Medal of Honor for saving his men by jumping on a burning tank and using its pintle machine gun to shoot a much larger force of Germans, allowing his men to escape... yeah, that guy... he was promoted to 1st Lieutenant (one of the lowest ranks of officer) and pulled off the line, never seeing combat again (well, until Hollywood convinced him to make a flurry of movies about his experiences, which exacerbated his PTSD and led him to severe alcoholism....). So Bret Hawthorne is more of a bad ass than one of the most bad ass soldiers in US history? Mmmmkay....
So basically Ben Ten Shapiro so far - try for an art (music, drama, painting) with good intent - fail and drop in said art - get into politics by being loud and shouty - insist he is the solution for all of the countries "problems" - release a book that is full of hateful beliefs and poorly written ...i don't like where this is going edit: oh my god stop replying, we get it!

I grew up close to Detroit. There are absolutely dangerous and dilapidated neighborhoods, but the way conservatives talk about it like it's a post apocalyptic hellscape is so ridiculous. Over half a million people still live and work there. There's sports stadiums, concert venues, parks, shopping districts, farmers markets etc. It isn't a "forgotten" city, it's been through a lot but it very much still alive.
the guy literally tried to justify a police officer killing a black child because the child was "threatening his life" by being rude and insulting the kid didn't even pull out the gun, he's just standing there disobeying the officer and being rude, and the officer is *that fucking terrified* to the point that he describes the _8 year old_ as some soulless monster that'll kill him if he doesn't kill the kid first how racist do you have to be to actually think this
And then the big tough police officer was so scared of the 8 year old he just murdered for being rude to him and having something in a pocket, that he has to sit down on the curb and have a little cry Awww, diddums, did wanton murder make you feel all sad? :'c

As a civilian from a country that has had civilian casualties thanks to US intervention, that first article floored me. I can't believe he not only unironically thinks that way but also puts it in full display and even influences people to think like that. As you say in your title, it is disturbing, I'd go on to say fucking sociopathic.
This eerily reminds me of the Syrian artist whose family was killed by a US drone. He gathered the bits of debris from what used to be his home and built a smaller Statue of Liberty out of it. I honestly think there is nothing worse you can do for a child than to label them a 'prodigy'. IIRC there's pretty much no hard correlation between being a prodigy and performance later in life.
I can tell the exact situation Ben was trying to emulate with that O'Sullivan bit. If I remember correctly, a child was threatening people in a fake gun (It had the orange tip removed so it looked like an actual gun) in a park. A cop showed up, the kid pointed the gun at him, and the cop shot him. It was a tragedy. Ben took this, and made it into some evil kid with devil eyes looking at him.
Not quite. He was playing with a fake gun in the park, a busy body across the street called 911 to report a black child playing with a fake gun (literally told the cops she thought it was fake). The responding officer rolled up in his car and immediately shot the poor kid dead without saying a word to him

The novel also has one of the most bizarre endings I've ever seen printed. So, for context: one of the lovely Afghan characters is on a plane, threatening to _detonate a nuke over New York_ (because of course he is) if the president Prescott doesn't negotiate yada-yada (it's not important for this). The people on the plane _can_ stop him but are _too politically correct to do so._ I wish I was making that up, but it's literally how Shapiro describes it: _"The other passengers looked around uncomfortably, paralyzed by a peculiar inability to overcome their political correctness."_ Anyways, then, in a plot twist that not even M. Night Shyamalan would stoop to, the character Ellen steps in and _detonates the nuke herself._ I don't know why, I don't think Shapiro knows why, but she does. She detonates a goddamned nuke over New York City, killing tens of thousands immediately, and undoubtedly millions more with the resulting nuclear fallout. And that's where the plotline officially ends: no resolution or anything, just a nuke over New York. But then we get an epilogue, of all things. _A new character_ is introduced... _In the epilogue._ This character being the VP, who took over after Prescott was removed from office. We learn that war is brewing: an international coalition, consisting of China, Russian, Canada, Japan, and Europe, is on America's borders, poised to launch an invasion. And then, the story ends with farm-lady rescuing Brett from his imprisonment, with the two conspiring to start their own terrorist cell. _Lovely._ I mean, I guess "go big or go home", but Jesus Christ. Forget jumping the shark, Shapiro's in orbit with how absurd the last few pages get.
What the fudge? A sea invasion of the us is nigh impossible, given the distances and the size of the US navy, and the Sonora desert is nigh impassible for a large military force, protecting the southern border. You could technically invade from the north, but one, the idea that Canada would side against us is laughable, and two, that’s a single front, and even given the open geography, my guess is that the us military would do just fine.

How can a war be justified if all unarmed civilians of the population are seen as the enemy? Is that not just genocide? And what is Ben’s take on the recent Taliban takeover? Does he believe that the Afghans deserve it and are happy? Honestly, I do wonder what he would say when confronted by the thousands of victims of the Taliban. I think the justification for that is deeply rooted in american geopolitics. Which means both the Democrats and the Republicans don't really have any say in that, the middle east would have been invaded regardless.

Intentionally, I'd wager. He's trying to sell a book to people who read at about a 5th grade level. Doing a good job of writing would actually be detrimental to the work's reception by its intended audience.
@@adrianhenle That doesn't make sense to me. Writing well and writing in a way that's easy to read are two different things that an author can achieve at the same time. They aren't mutually exclusive. You can still appeal to the audience by making the world work in ways that seem realistic to your audience, unrelated to reality. The content of a novel is independent of the quality of the writing.
@@adrianhenle Not really. Proper ghost writers tend to work hard to make sure that it is easy to read. It is important not to have to long sentences. This can be solved by avoiding commas if possible. To use proper paragraphing and not write a wall of text helps a lot. The wall of text issue can easily be solved by going to the next row after each sentence. The purpose of a novel like this is to convey a story. Not to test peoples ability to read an unreadable mess. I mean I know since I have dyslexia. The idea that it is easier for me to understand something that is badly written is a fallacy. Since because I am worse at reading I also benefit more from good writing.

@@philtkaswahl2124 There's actually an interesting backstory as to why some people from the ancient realm of Baktria have these Greek features: It had a long served as the part of the antique Persian Empire where unruly Greeks got exiled to. After Alexander the Great conquered Persia, there were many Greeks seeking their fortune in Baktria and the land got very rich due to its natural resources like gold until it got eventually swallowed by its neighbours. This was more than 2000 years ago mind you. Still, to this day you have lots of people from Afghanistan with blue eyes, at least in certain regions, despite this color not being a dominant trait to inherit.
"Arab/Persian looking'' would have worked a lot better in a first person perspective. A third person perspective has no excuse to not know what the ethnicity of the person is. Generally speaking, I'm suprised Ben Shapiro did not write in a first person perspective, since it allows for a more emotional connection. For example, the scene about the terrorist attack on the airplane, it could have first talked about how one person gets on the plane, and then could have started a new chapter about another person who got out of bed early to catch the same plane.

Mmmmkay....

Ben writes the United States like it’s supposed to be the Galactic Empire from Star Wars without any of the self awareness that they where the bad guys of the story.
there are a *lot* of right-wingers and fascists that unironically do not care that the OT was a morality play with a plain good/evil dichotomy, and they wholly, genuinely fawn over the Empire and if prodded will write screeds about the Rebels being terrorists who were "the REAL bad guys."
it would absolutely not shock me if Ben was one of those people who unironically talk about how genociding the Geonosians, Wookkie slavery, destroying Alderaan, were all good, actually, and for the "greater good."
which is why they made the nazi allegory even more blatant in the sequels.

Likewise! He also words it so strangley 'heavily black'. Nononono my friend, people who know English would say "Majority black", 'heavily black' sounds like you just learned how to write yesterday. Also this notion that there is some kid in the school who no body knows their name is absurd. The teacher doesn't have a roster? Parents just enrolled the kid as "??????" in what reality is it even possible for a kid to be in a school and the other kids to not know his name. If he wanted to write a realistic character in a poor school in a rough neighborhood, what you would write is "No one dared to called him anything else, last kid that did landed himself head first in a trashcan." The novel also has one of the most bizarre endings I've ever seen printed. So, for context: one of the lovely Afghan characters is on a plane, threatening to _detonate a nuke over New York_ (because of course he is) if the president Prescott doesn't negotiate yada-yada (it's not important for this). The people on the plane _can_ stop him but are _too politically correct to do so._ I wish I was making that up, but it's literally how Shapiro describes it:
_"The other passengers looked around uncomfortably, paralyzed by a peculiar inability to overcome their political correctness."_
Anyways, then, in a plot twist that not even M.
_Lovely._

All we said was that he wrote two books. We didn't say they were good.
"There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year-old's life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs."
~John Rogers

@@robertoleary5470 He's a TV/Film writer.
This is top level
I'm not sure about Atlas Shrugs, but "Kings built tombs more splendid than the houses of the living and counted the names of their descent dearer than the names of their sons," is still a relevant criticism of the upper class nearly 80 years later.

If Ben believes that the population of Afghanistan supported the Taliban regime, how does he justify the invasion of the country if it was not liberating the people? How can a war be justified if all unarmed civilians of the population are seen as the enemy? Is that not just genocide? And what is Ben’s take on the recent Taliban takeover? Does he believe that the Afghans deserve it and are happy? Honestly, I do wonder what he would say when confronted by the thousands of victims of the Taliban. Would he claim that they are evil terrorists too?
He's such a fashy piece of ethno-state pushing trash he probably would.
He's definitely into genocide. It's kind of his kink
Bold of you to assume he thinks he thoughts through. He just knows how to sell articles and himself to the dumbest 'patriots' out there
I think the justification for that is deeply rooted in american geopolitics. Which means both the Democrats and the Republicans don't really have any say in that, the middle east would have been invaded regardless.

My god, middle school confession notes were less cringe that this book. How can a man that claims to be educated write so poorly?
Intentionally, I'd wager. He's trying to sell a book to people who read at about a 5th grade level. Doing a good job of writing would actually be detrimental to the work's reception by its intended audience.
Dunning Kruger?
@@adrianhenle That doesn't make sense to me.
Writing well and writing in a way that's easy to read are two different things that an author can achieve at the same time. They aren't mutually exclusive.
You can still appeal to the audience by making the world work in ways that seem realistic to your audience, unrelated to reality. The content of a novel is independent of the quality of the writing.
@@adrianhenle
Not really.

I respect your opinion. But raise you all the possibilities Ben was handed simply by being born into a well off family.
How many families could afford private tutors for their child? How many families could pull the strings necessary to pave the path for their children to the point where they can just get their first work published coming straigth from college?
Ben is so very obviously average and the perfect example of just how much of an empty promise the so called American meritocracy truly is.
@@kugelblitzingularity304 I mean it may or may not be. “Arab/Persian looking” Lol not all Middle Eastern people fit that stereotype. Some have light skin & red hair. But I am kinda impressed that Ben Shapiro knows there’s a difference between Arabs and Persians.
He doesn"t. That's why he wrote both down, so that he might hit the mark with at least one.
I've had an Iranian classmate during college here in the Philippines (he told me the ESL courses here were great for their price) who was blond and blue-eyed. Part of me wonders how Shapiro would react meeting him or someone like him, but I wouldn't want to inflict Ben's company on anyone.
@@couchpotatoe91 It's either that, or because the speakers of Proto-Indo-European exhibited blondism. Perhaps, its a combination of both.
