Yes! Red Barchetta, Limelight, Witch Hunt, and possibly the last epic, over 10-minute long songs they made, “The Camera Eye”! WOW, they really hit a high with that album! Masterpiece is right!
YYZ in Rio puts this to shame musically. gotta to the react to that. Neil Peart, best drummer there has been. Others are good, but he is who they aspire to be as good as.
There has never been a band like this! They were masters of their craft. They played live the same way they played here, perfect. Over 40 years and 19 studio albums and they did it their way. Never compromised their musical integrity. Miss them so much! RIP Mr. Peart...
Three guys....all good friends, no drama, no scandals. Now watch them play this live (or any RUSH for that matter) and you'll see just how dialed in these three men are. I was fortunate enough to see them live a handful of times. More RUSH please! (Then dive into Buckethead). Great channel, thanks for the upload.
The biggest drama in Rush that I know of was in 1969 (so it was years prior to Neil even joining after their first album), when Geddy was briefly kicked out of the band (because their manager had some stupid ideas). It became a disaster without Geddy, so they invited him back. Wise move. 😄
I grew up in a town outside Toronto and they lived in the next town and we were playing in the park and heard music coming from the factories and we climbed on the dumpsters to watch in the window and saw them rocking out making the most impressive sounds we had ever heard. It was 1980 and I was 10. They saw us and came out and talked to us about hockey Cause that's what we Canadians do 😂) and we talked about the music they were recording and their cars. Geddy and Alex gave us guitar picks and Neil gave us drumsticks they were so down to earth and humble. I saw them live in 88 and 03 and they kicked ass. I saw them the second time in front of 500,000 crazy Canadians at the SARS relief concert in Toronto in 2003 and they had us rocking for sure. If you ain't air drumming to this song you ain't alive 😂😂😂 Great reaction and Peace out guys ✌️ ☮️

This made me smile huge. I was 14 when the album came out. I heard Tom Sawyer on the local rock station on my Walkman while riding my bike thru my hometown. I knew right then I had to play the drums. And I have for over forty years now! RIP to drum god Neil Peart. You are missed.
So cool to hear complimentary assessments from specialists in other music genres. Thanks for taking a listen and for the kind words for my favorite band. @@Cosmo-Kramer Yes, of course. We are clearly seeing them do the various tracks for the final product.... it's not being done in one take. But we *are* seeing the parts that are in the final song being recorded live.
@@billacikalin8108 You're missing the point. The whole point of someone like our host saying, "They're playing live", is that they think we're hearing the band's raw live performance. But we're not. We're hearing the *_produced_* studio version, which may've used sections of music from multiple takes to create it. Rush is a legendary Canadian band. My cousin worked at the studio in Morin Heights where they recorded this song and their albums. True Canadian gold. Neil is the GOAT in my opinion. 🎸🇨🇦❤️
3 incredible, masterful musicians. They have broken boundaries with their musical creations. They are truly legendary. Appreciations for sharing this one.
Rush is a group of virtuosos. Neil Peart, the drummer, gets a lot of much deserved attention, he was one of the all time greats, but the others were his musical peers. Most people get hung up/surprised by Geddy Lee’s high pitched voice. It works well. What always impressed me about Rush is that would write & compose technically complex music, go into the studio and record the definitive version of the song, and then spend the rest of their careers reproducing that studio performance live, note for note for note. And they did it. Most bands can’t do that and wouldn’t even try. Also, with exception of their first album, it was the same 3 musicians. (The first drummer had an alcohol problem and was diabetic. Their manager told him if they love his friend, he’s got to go or he’ll die.) After that, the 3 members all got writing credits on every song. Neil wrote most of the lyrics. Drummers typically get paid less because they’re part of the ensemble and don’t get royalties because they don’t contribute to the melody or the lyric to the melody. This band was different. Basically, everyone got paid the same thing. I think that helped their longevity.
Alex Lifeson: “Neil had worked on the lyrics from an idea that had come from a friend of ours, Pye Dubois (Max Webster). He expanded on that whole theme of rebellion and instinct... Most of ['Moving Pictures'] was written by all of us at the same time, in the room jamming with an idea and everybody going from there. What we ended up with was, I think, some of the strongest and most enduring material that we’ve ever written. There are a lot of songs on that record that reached a really high standard... They connected with a bigger audience. But there was also something about the sound of that record that resonated with people.” Neil Peart: "I really think we started to bring it together a bit with 'Permanent Waves', but particularly 'Moving Pictures' and from then on... ['Tom Sawyer'] finds us at a time of such confidence that we were learning to make a song that was only six minutes instead of 12, 15, and use the same standards of arrangement. The drum is so detailed, but when we go into the middle to the odd time part, it was improvised. I got lost and I punched my way out of it and somehow came back to the one. And that improvisation became a new part. It's one of those key parts that I love and it was absolutely a mistake that I just got lucky and got out of."
I love how they found a secluded place in the woods and lead down a few tracks over a period of a few days or so. It reminded me of older bands like the Allman Brothers when their members all lived in the same house just so they could practice over and over again. The only group that I know that is doing that is the Hip hop group Coast Contra who all lives together.
Thank you Thank you THANK YOU for playing it uninterrupted all the way through before breaking it down. Too many "reaction/analysis" videos will go 10 seconds, stop to comment, then backup 5 seconds and do it again, never experiencing the song in its entirety. It's fun to watch people get exposed to Rush and watch their faces light up and become fans 🥰 (This goes for any band/song being reacted to)
Rush is prog rock royalty. The changing time signatures and multiple instruments played are amazing. Neil Peart, The Professor, on drums is sadly no longer with us. But his mother actually asked him once why he doesn't ever smile when he's playing. His reaction was, Mom, this stuff is hard!
Drummer considered one of the greatest drummers all 3 top notch....trivia for you one of the few bands that the summer did alot of the writing of lyrics
❤Corey @6:55 I'm a fan too, of the Canadian rock band Rush, since 1978. They deserve to be mentioned among the great rock bands of all time. I hope you three will dive deeper into the Rush rabbit hole!
This is a very deep rabbit hole, gentlemen!! I love their studio stuff but to see them live is something else. These 3 are all masters in their field. When you see them live, you go, how is all this music coming from 3 guys? Geddy Lee is the vocalist, bass player and keys/synth. At times, he does all 3 things on stage at once, (using foot pedals, of course). Alex Lifeson is the guitarist who also uses foot pedals for synth and other sounds. Niel Peart, (pronounced like you would the word, ear). Peart. He is a master percussionist. Anything you can hit with a stick, he's got and he plays it. He writes almost all their lyrics and is know as "The Professor" for his very deep knowledge of wide ranging topics that he puts to song. Not everything is deep - like Tom Sawyer, here is not deep at all. Sadly, he passed away a few years ago from cancer. Id love to request a live song from them called, Working Man. It's in Cleveland in 2011. These guys are well into their 50's at this point and they absolutely blow the roof off of that place. I really hope you to choose to watch it sometime soon. Peace and love, fellas. ua-cam.com/video/fEZDFPsL50M/v-deo.htmlsi=csIe6rzKUN-_xWvE

It reminded me of older bands like the Allman Brothers when their members all lived in the same house just so they could practice over and over again. The only group that I know that is doing that is the Hip hop group Coast Contra who all lives together.
Tom Sawyer was my introduction to Rush in the early 80s. This and Limelight are my favorite.
I heard about them way back in 1980, when I was a wee lad.
If you do Spirit Of Radio please do the studio version as it is superior in every way. YYZ LIVE IN RIO , will shock and awe you!
👍💯
The Spirit Of Radio version in Toronto where they start with Paint it Black is pretty epic too
Not compared to some of the live versions I have seen over the years.
YYZ in Rio is all about the audience. It is a good performance but the sound is just bad.
Agree
This was our _anthem_ in the early 80s.
So down for this rabbit hole.
Thank you Thank you THANK YOU for playing it uninterrupted all the way through before breaking it down. Too many "reaction/analysis" videos will go 10 seconds, stop to comment, then backup 5 seconds and do it again, never experiencing the song in its entirety. It's fun to watch people get exposed to Rush and watch their faces light up and become fans 🥰 (This goes for any band/song being reacted to)
Rush, the best thing to come out of Canada since John Candy!
Come now how about Jeff Healy, The Hip, Blue Rodeo, BTO, Loverboy, the list is long.....
@@cubangal1 They're good, but they are no John Candy!
I still miss John. 😢
Don’t forget Shania she up there too
@@cubangal1WTF?? You guys all forgot about APRIL WINE??? C’mon man, they’re a great Canadian band who really helped make FM Rock Radio cool.
Rush is Masterpiece Band and Tom Sawyer is 1 of many songs that are timeless ❤❤❤🤘🔊🔉🔊🔉🔊🎸🎸🎹🥁🎤🎼🎼🔊🔉💯✅🤘🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I got chills 6 different times watching this.
Drummer considered one of the greatest drummers all 3 top notch....trivia for you one of the few bands that the summer did alot of the writing of lyrics
Whether someone is a real drummer, or just an air drummer, chances are that there’s some Neil Peart inspiration in there.
❤Corey @6:55 I'm a fan too, of the Canadian rock band Rush, since 1978. They deserve to be mentioned among the great rock bands of all time. I hope you three will dive deeper into the Rush rabbit hole!
I saw them in 73
@@darich44Where? Who was playing drums?
@@saturn722 Hamilton forum
They opened for Nazareth. Rutsy on drums
Spirit of Radio next please
I was a 15-year-old drummer in 1982 when I saw my first concert, it was Rush, and it changed my mind about how music should be played
Loved it, well done gents!
Neil peart on drums 🥁 🪘 👌 ❤
3 Man band with incredible sound. God bless Rush and RIP Neal Peart.

No words need be spoken once Corey gets his head moving and his big ‘ol smile lighting the room.
Yes!! Rushgal is happy! 🥰 Please do "Working Man Live in Cleveland" it's fantastic!
Three guys and each a master. They sound this good in concert, perhaps better. RIP Neil
This wasn't hip hop crap. This is music!
Rude!! I mean, does it make you feel superior to put something that you don't like down. Open your mind.
Discovered them at 13. Im 60 now and still love them. RIP Neil
Neil Peart is pretty much on everyone's list as a top 1 or 2 drummer in the world. Geddy Lee is in pretty much everyone's top 5 or 10 top bass players in the world. And Alex Lifeson is an amazing guitarist. Welcome to RUSH guys. There's a ton to explore. And Corey, if you like the drumming - listen to Subdivisions from RUSH. Neil said it was the most difficult song he had to drum to.
"Always hopeful yet discontent. Knows changes aren't permanent. But change is."
You just watched the best drummer in history and not just that he wrote all the music and lyrics ,RIP Niel Peart
COREY rules!!!! i love his reaction--glad he appreciates everything Ive appreciated since getting the cassette in 1981!!!!
Great song! And what about that drummer!!!
I remember rollerskating to Tom Sawyer, touch and go from the cars, And I got you from split ends. All in the same session. the best days to be young.
three virtuosos soloing at the same time.
I saw them in the summer of 1984 when they headlined the TEXXAS JAM in the Astrodome. Fantastic concert.
Ollie only likes rap and not open to music. It’s ok to show some enthusiasm. Unbelievable
Best drummer ever in history. ❤❤❤ RIP. Best 3 man band When instruments were played in a song❤
RUSH "YYZ" live in Rio a must do reaction
