We Stayed at Shumway Farms this summer and loved it. Cost us a lot in Ice cream. Our son Caleb cried the entire day when we left. He wanted to go back and live there.

What’s not to like about a farm or ranch? I graduated from the University of Wyoming, my roommate for four years was a ranch kid, and I spend 3-4 weekends a month helping him help his folks in the ranch. In reference to the honor system store, my roomie’s folks never locked their doors! Shumway Farms and the farm and the brewery are on my list. Thanks! I should’a been a cowboy! 😉

    Hi Guys,
Loved this video! We here in Australia really enjoying staying at what we call “station stays”! It is becoming increasingly popular and of course allows you to experience aspects of country life that we city dwellers infrequently get to experience. Our highlight was Wooleen Station (Ranch) in Western Australia! The owners are endeavouring to rehabilitate country that has suffered extensive damage through drought and overgrazing! They have used the tourist aspect to support this work which has been proceeding for more than a decade! As you found at the dairy farm they also had some wonderful dogs who would accompany you on the various walks and one in particular just wanted you to throw sticks. The stick would of course be returned ready for the next throw. Stay safe! R and J

My first trip was AZ to FL to Maine, and everywhere in between and now making my way back to AZ for a home base check-in, and then hopefully on the road again! Will stay at Blue Heron if you recommend. :)

Being brought up on a dairy farm, sometimes the farm work MUST come first and visitors second. May be what the "jerks" experienced. When your at a business, you need to "just roll with it" if they don't wait on you exclusiv. They are letting you stay cheap.
That smell you probably encountered was normal for a dairy farm.......love it. Wait till you get on one with an upright silo or bunker silo....ohhhh so good.
I can tell you that your host probably didn't notice it. I believe Shumway Farms need to come up with a cologne, "ode de dairy cow".

Great video. My family and I stumbled across the Shumway Farm about 2 months ago. The people there are fantastic and welcoming. They offer and RV spot even though we weren’t harvested host members. We stopped there because we saw their sign out front advertising raw milk and ice cream. Everything you mentioned about the farm is right on. My six year old daughter will never forget the dogs. Love that place.

Love, love, love Harvest Hosts. We use them all the time. The golf course businesses are our favorite. We were in Missouri last week at a car museum on route 66. Even though they were closed due to the pandemic, the business was nice. The hosts were very friendly when we called ahead to make the reservation. The parking was a little rough, but it was quiet except for a 2 times a day train. But all-in-all, our times at harvest host locations sites are awesome. Couldn't do without them 👍.

Grass fed milk is the best. In Ecuador you see dairy cows running around on really steep hills and mountains like in Europe. Some brands of milk in Ecuador tasted better than standard organic in the U.S. I couldn't find milk in the U.S. that seemed to tast as good. But now that Organic Valley produces Grass Fed Milk it is very close.

That area between Afton and Alpine are some of my most favorite places... looking for a tiny chunk of no-restriction land there, going fast, and not as cheap as it used to be. Good to know about HH places around there. I'm not the type to park in an RV park, but usually just looking for a place to pull over for the night. (In that area, last time I was there a few months ago, I "camped" at the Continental Divide pass trucker pull-out, right at the high elevation sign :)). This was a refreshing video, I enjoyed it a lot.

The vacume cleaner museum in Idaho would be an odd one....
Scored a deal on wine is Idaho at a HH, $60.00 a Case for pretty good wine....
So far, not 1 bad experience!!!

I joined Harvest Host through your link today. I have heard of this program several times over the past couple of years and was planning on joining. I purchased my RV (1997 Holiday Rambler Vacationer) just last week. I have been staying in it with the pets for about 5 days now (in my driveway) getting the last few things settled and waiting for a few items to be delivered before heading out for my first trip. I checked the HH maps and there are several in my area and was thinking of a trip just staying at the host's locations. I don't know for sure but seems like a good idea right now.

That is awesome guys I really think this would be an awesome chance to enjoy that off beaten path that you talked about. What a great way to spend time Outdoors instead of in a crowded area like you said. I can't wait to get on our first adventure to one of those. We will be joining through your site to help you guys as well

Nice episode guys. HH is the bomb! Seeing rural America is a fun experience. I recommend the GOLF option for $20, even if you don't golf, like us. Most golf locations have a good restaurant you can patronize for breakfast, and there are golf club locations everywhere. It adds to the options for cheap boondocking in towns all over. Sean, I laughed at the NY City dig you made about NY ethics and honesty. Good one, very subtle.

We joined Harvest Hosts and will be spending our first night next week at Lost Maples Winery near Utopia, Texas. I had seen info on the program and your recommendation convinced us to join. We are newbies to RV camping and bought our 22’ Bambi in July. From watching your videos, we were very prepared before we even took possession. We especially loved the weird tools video. If you are back up in the park area, you might try a Harvest Host in Driggs, Idaho, The Grand Teton Distillery. They make some mighty fine vodka there. Driggs is also our summer base when we want to escape the Texas heat. Let us know if you are in the area next summer.

    • @LongLongHoneymoon
      @LongLongHoneymoon  3 роки тому

Thanks Elizabeth, we love that area! We almost went to the distillery too. Maybe next year! We would love to make Idaho our summer bases as well. My dream is to build an RV parking pad with a small carriage house in that region.... Driggs, Victor, or Idaho Falls...
