Thanks so much for this, I have just bought 2x of them.. it will be a horrific feeling hacking into them before I have even used them, but better that than damage the cells with poor balance on the first charge! Mine will be under the van, so I will have to seal them with silicone when putting them back together! I will run the balancer switch into the van, so I can access it. I will also run a balance lead out of the pack into the van so I can actually monitor the cells when needed. I fly RC planes, and in the RC hobby, with mostly lithium batteries being used, we have little things you can plug into a balance lead to quickly read the voltage of each cell and the total voltage.

That's a great idea to have the balancer switch and cell voltages on a remote loom! I feel your pain opening a new battery, but I don't regret it at all, they have been perfect since doing this. Good Luck!

@@meerkatfilmsuk I really appreciate your effort in making the video, it is a fantastic resource for the rest of us! Thank you!

Brilliant video. I have 2 of these and managed to short them killing the bms. Having tried all the tricks to wake the battery's up , no joy new JK-B2A8S20P bms partially installed. I have followed a couple of other UA-cam videos on installing and need some advice as all these are on blocks of cells and not an enclosed battery. My problem is after following the set ups shown i have no power to the bms and no Bluetooth connection so something must be wired incorrectly. I take it from your narration you hinted you have replaced a bms? The new bms has a 9 wired connection block , the black wire i have connected to the yellow comming up from the 4 b- connectors. 1st balance red to the white in the middle nearest cell 1, 2nd red to cell 2 which is the yellow wire to the right of cell 1, 3rd red to white wire in centre of battery and finally red 4 to yellow on the left of that cell 4. Red wires 5-8 not used. Red 9 I have tried same connection as red 4 and also directly to positive post. On testing i have 13.4v at B- and pos terminal, P- to positive post 13.2v . Any ideas please and yes i managed to crack the lip of the casing😂

I do remember the jk bms has the connection block wiring in the reverse order. So you may have wired them backwards. Do you have voltage in the cells? If so you should be able to revive it.

Thanks for the reply. Got the proper switch and now working although can only get cells to charge to 3.21v. Awaiting arrival of bench power supply and will follow your section from video on that. Any ideas what the 2 white wires coming from cell 1 to the cpcb do? Again many thanks

Thanks, took photo and enlarged it of block connector and it does have 85 degree marker . Sorted thanks. More videos coming ?

Sorry forgot to ask , the 2 white wires coming up from cell one and soldered to the bms, any ideas of function?

You might be referring to the temp sensor. There are two, one on the cells and another near the connection points

@Allaboutcampers123 Hi I did contact you earlier but it didn't send for some reason. Agree on closer inspection the pcb under the cover has a connection that says 85 degrees. Any more videos planned. Excellent job

Well here we go again. Bought a 230ah Li Time ‘low temp protection’ batt and just finished trying to bench top charge to 14.59 at 10amps. Went all day and shut down. Remove charge and get 13.13 at the battery… These batts are all shipped imbalanced!

Sadly a little late for that! I think the on/off switch might be a giveaway... that and the fact that's its nicely balanced now...

This is amazing! Thank you for this. My 5 month old exact battery won’t show higher that 13.29 volts after sitting for days and days on small ac powered automatic lip04 charger. Do you have a recommendation on a bench top power supply?

You may have the same problem, I think it's common on these lifepo4 batteries. I have the cheapest amazon 5amp benchtop. I would recommend getting a better one, with 10amps and 2 decimal places for voltage. So you can be more precise. Good luck with the repair!

Finished the mod last night. The balancer has done an excellent job! Just a quick question, is there any issue with the balancer being on when the battery is back in the truck camper system while hooked up to the solar charge controller and the inverter charger?

Also, what hoops did you have jump thru to get renogy to send you a new one?

There's no problem with the balancer being on while the battery is being charged from solar. I generally switch my balancer off and only stick it on from time to time but I know some people have it active all the time and I don't think it causes any issues.@@Kehoe-ge4iq

they made me make a video showing it not charging properly, obviously you'd need to do this before modding it!@@Kehoe-ge4iq

I had to stop watching when you did such a horrible job stripping and soldering onto the board. Why on earth do people do such a sloppy job then show others "How" to do it?
