    If you come up with a simple mechanism to fix the stator to different bikes and the neodymium magnet array to different wheels you'll have an extremely competetive quality product. If the magnets were cheaper it would conquer the e-bike market. I had the same idea too. Good to see that someone else had the same.

    Think eco friendly off road dirt bikes they've been selling the past several years...Up to 8 hours of off road riding on trails,small jumps even,mostly for exploring,or sight seeing,incredible torque...

    A system with permanent magnets like that could also take advantage of regenerative braking storing the energy normally wasted as heat with friction braking down big hills. This bike would also benefit from a super capacitor bank for regenerative brake energy storage with LiPo main batteries. The caps can take massive charge energy fast were the LiPos alone can't. Make a shed for it with 4 100watt solar panels for the roof and you have free transportation.

    Correct me if I am mistaken , but the power should be very good because the motion is applied the the outer edge of the wheel , where the leverage is much lower , right ?

    This idea is perfect for picking up all little metall particles on the roads... As in, you better make sure your driven wheel gets really good sealed

    @TheKaos90
    the torque would be higher. Actually proportional to the radius of the stator.

  • @Jianju69
    @Jianju69 13 років тому

    @TheKaos90
    I had the same thought, though I caution it with the consideration that at the outer edge of the wheel, the armature is "travelling" a greater distance along the wheel, meaning more pulses at lower power. Closer to the stator would mean fewer pulses at greater power. Correct me if I'm wrong as well.

    Good work you guys! The only moving part is the wheel and the acceleration is smooth! I'm curious if you have considered maybe using supercapacitors to help the initial push (when on the ground under load)?

    @stiffyschlong That's fighting talk :) That disc is ALL unsprung weight, and magnetic drives usually use iron to concentrate the field
    So, how much does your drive weigh, and what torque does it have? What power can it deliver?

    Looks a bit expensive on the neodymium though.

  • @LastZoneTrooper
    @LastZoneTrooper 12 років тому

    if they scaled down this tech and made a smaller, but more efficient power supply, and combined it with today's touch-sensor tech, it would be possible to make A-T's. the only problem would be, how long would the battery life last, and how much power would be able to be worked out of two-wheeled skates? pressure-sensors that control speed is possible today as it is used in prosthetic limbs. A-T's are technically possible if you have a budget close to $2.5m and a big enough design team.

  • @joebayron
    @joebayron 13 років тому

    Maybe you can prolong the battery power by doing a braking mechanism that can convert the energy into power, charging the batteries while braking returns some of the power consumed when accelerating.. just an idea

    @wolfekeeper It's probably cheaper (and lighter) to use a small diameter brushless motor and gear it up
    I can't see what's wrong with a toothed belt drive - at least for rear wheels
    That way the motor doesn't become unsprung weight either

  • @upcycle

    @stiffyschlong Toothed belts are more efficient than small gearboxes
    Subjecting motors and gearboxes to bump accelerations will test all the bearings involved

    with only those 3 electro magnets and its slow speed up it seems pathetically weak. like a 20w motor or something. you can already buy 1000w brushless hub motors with like 36 electro magnets around the whole centre. dragging the hub around it very well. i use a 750w one on my bike

    You can see where you've got the rare earth magnets stuffed in that heavy disc, well if it's a damned BICYCLE, and not a proper MOTORBIKE - then you might as well follow bicycle doctrine and put the magnets in the RIM it won't help with weight to be sure, but the torque will be more direct, not have to leverage through the increased diameter. And the "disc caliper" type coil array could work more like a rim brake. It would weigh less overall, if only a bit more in the rim: offset w carbon rim???

      @@rajendrachougule9560 the Kollter ES1 pro is an electric motorcycle that uses this motor to produces peak 11kw 15hp and achieves 72mph using 4.2kWh of battery. It’s range is 80 miles. I’ve logged ~30,000 miles on it so far, haven’t had a single issue with this motor. It is a magnificent piece of engineering. It’s saved me thousands on maintenance and petrol.
