This channel was created to track the life of our Bullmastiff Tua. Videos will be posted to show not only his physical growth, but his behavioral changes, obedience level changes, and our overall experience with the Bullmastiff breed. This will hopefully help anyone interested in the Bullmastiff breed by showing what to expect at very specific times all throughout a Bullmastiff's life! Although this will be more specifically about the Bullmastiff breed, the videos should give a very general idea about what to expect at certain ages of many different dog breeds. Thank you! Prong collars are a great training tool for dogs when used properly especially when learning to heel. Tua is at the point where he probably doesn't need it with me but it is part of my walking/training routine to use it. I have used them all my life on several dogs with great results and no negative issues. Thanks for the comment!
@@bullmastiffnd9784 I see it differently, I had Rottweiler and 1 Bullmastiff, I didn't need these collars ... we had Schutzhund 1 ... it's not good for sensitive dogs like the Bullmastiff.
I understand they are controversial. I would just encourage everyone to do what they feel is right/best for their dog as long as they are being responsible owners and not hurting the dog.
Yes you must have those freeze dried treats. Freya hasn't been tied up since she was 10 months old. We dont have a fence. She just sits and watches people or dogs go by. Most people are surprised she listens so well. I can stop her from chasing squirrels til i let her. She is the same with ducks or geese that stop by. Just watches. I did allow her to spook the geese then call her back. She does bow(when they do their stretch..bow too and say bow they will catch on), spin around, dance for me(spin around and taps feet) and fist bump. Trying to get her to speak on command..she isnt a barker. Bullmastiff are smart dog but stubborn sometimes.
Yeah, they're good dogs. The only time my Bullmastiff mix refused was when we were outside and he was standing guard over me. Sometimes he'd refuse to sit or down then. Because he would feel like he wasn't guarding then. But otherwise he was a pro.
I personally believe a raw food diet is the healthiest way to feed your dog. Although not the cheapest unfortunately. I tend to do a mix. I'll feed 100% raw often but I will also mix kibble. Switching it up. But always making sure raw meat makes it in every meal. Usually at least 75-80% and the rest being kibble. If you keep digging, you will find many videos with me feeding raw food and even when I first started doing it. Currently I use a raw food company a lot of the time but still will make some of my own. Here is the link to the company and also a video I made about their product! Most people think mastiffs are stupid but they aren't they learn rapidly and then decide if they want to do it. Doing drills like this once or twice a week is awesome. And yes he was pissed he wasn't getting food for this major effort you made him do lol. He did amazingly well tho.
What a beautiful smart boy! Good job, Tua!!! 👍 I fostered a dog who I believed to be a Bullmastiff mix. I only used treats to initially teach him. After that, the enjoyment of succeeding and pleasing me was his reward. We both adored our training sessions. It was our fun time together. So, he never looked for food reward. But if I didn't praise him he'd stop performing. Lol. I miss that boy.
Just asking for a suggestion we have an English Mastiff 16 weeks old still a puppy he is doing marvelous with his obedience training but when we go to pet him he often times try’s to jump up and bite at our hands in a playing type but trying to get him to stop have tried several things any recommendations thanks
This sounds like typical puppy behavior. Tua and almost every other dog I have had were big hand and finger biters until all of those puppy teeth fall out and the teething phase comes to an end. I haven't found anything extremely successful in stopping this unfortunately. You just do everything you can do deal with it knowing it will eventually end on it's own
Just keep giving him a negative response to the biting. My boy is five months old now, and hasn't bit our hands once in well over a month now, even while he's teething. He used to do the exact same thing when we got him. The negative response can be just sternly telling him "no!" and taking your hands away or pushing him away. If that's not enough to make him give up, after a while you can start leaving/turning around (and still telling him no) and completely ignoring him as soon as he tries to bite. It'll definitely take time but if you're consistent and never allow him to get away with biting he'll catch on. Another thing, you might want to try teaching him how to act when he is pet and handled by petting him while he is busy chewing on something else or is very tired. That way he might not bother attacking your hands, and if you give lots of praise when he acts nice when you handle him, he'll eventually figure it out. You just have to be very consistent, my bullmastiff always jumps at the first opportunity to misbehave if he sees us slipping on the rules :D
Anither thing I know helped my boy stop biting is giving him a lot of toys and hard edible chewies. He especially loves chewing on whole dried cow bones and on a few squishy rubber toys. He spends a few hours every day chewing on his toys, and I've definitely noticed that getting to chew on something safe made him want to chew on furniture and us much less.

My wife never listens to me. Perhaps I should get a dog, instead? :-)
😂
Yes, yes you should lol
Why does your dog wear the spiked collar? And also the sting inwards? No need for a Bullmastiff!
