- Been wanting to go do another overlanding adventure in Big Bear. We decided to take my 2WD Tacoma and see if it can make it through Rattlesnake Canyon (RC3331)
This trail will take you from Johnson Valley through the rattlesnake canyon and end up in burns canyon.
This trail is definitely a great trail definitely tested our rigs with it's many rocky sections.
Let me know if you have done this trail before and don't forget to subscribe for more similar content.

Really appreciate this channel. Having a 2WD myself and kind of regretting not getting a 4X4, your channel has definitely made me regret it a lot less, and shows how much you can still do with a 2WD.
I know the feeling...definitely can do a lot with 2WD with a bit of clearance and some good tires.
In giving props to that little ranger. That thing is a beast
I own a 2023 Tacoma Off Road, 2wd. So glad to see it really is capable of most anything ill need
Yup...it's amazing what this truck with some slight modification can do.
You can have just as much fun with 2wd 👌🏽 appreciate the videos Mr Tran. Keep them coming!
Thank you...appreciate the support.
Wow, very impressed with how the 2wd's managed this trail... Well done guys...
Thank you...it definitely tested our driving skill
Zam, that Dodge Ram was reallly smoov and steady and sure. It delivers the power well... or just driver variables. All those really impressive 2WDs. WOW
Lol that ranger full send it like he stole it lol
He did...haha.
love the old ranger, doing it the old fashioned way. if in doubt, floor it!
He definitely was the mvp on that trail...just send it haha
Awesome video man. This trail is definitely one of my favorite. Great job getting the 2WDs through there 👌🏽
Thanks for your video...gave me an idea of what it was like...however being there and seeing the trail for myself makes a difference. Those rocks look small on camera haha
Another fantastic video adventure Mike. Keep them coming, and I will keep watching Brother. Cheers
Thanks, will do!
looks like another fun day out on the trails! and another cool video!
Nothing like getting a bunch of friends together and having fun and being in nature. I just love being outside haha
great content. appreciate you showing what our 2nd 🌮 can do. 💪🏾💪🏾
This was cool. That white ranger handled it well. A Light truck with a regular cab, tires and the proper momentum is a good 2WD setup.
you definitely make me feel better with my trd sport 2wd I'm on 3in lift on 33" Nitto grapplers but tbh i think having a 2wd prevents me from destroying my truck from getting a pair of balls i don't need in a truck i worked so hard to be able to afford lol
Thanks man...that was one of the reason I made the videos was to show people there are trails out there you can have fun in 2WD
2WD FJ did that trail like it was nothing. Thought it was an easy trail until getting to the exit I saw it was a black diamond 😂
Defintiely a few section can be consider hard especially the rocky off shoots
I'm a raptor guy and impress with that TRX I wonder if the Saleen f150 can keep up with it. Trans on that trx is no joke.
I was very impressed at how nimble it is on these trails.
Great video. I need to run that trail sometime. Looks fun
Definitely a fun trail...I think with a bit more water would've been perfect
You guys are nuts. How do you think the new 2024 trd sport would do off roading? A 2WD.
Good video young man. Carry a few spare Colby valve stems. They are a simple install on the trail. I was wondering about how my 2wd GMC Sierra would handle it. I have been on that trail quite a few times on my dirt bikes.
I definitely need to learn to do this as it's a good skill to have on these type of trails.
Can't believe I've never heard about these, buying some for my next trail run. Never pulled a valve stem like that before. Thanks Ollie!
@@jurelle Didn't realize that could happen...I really thought you puncture your sidewall
Looked like a lot of fun. Can’t believe I missed this run. Stupid Super Bowl lol
Haha...next time
I've been up those trails with an old 2wd Datsun station wagon and didn't get stuck. It's not the equipment as much as it's how you use it. The right momentum and line of attack are are everything.
Nice! It does feel good and a sense of accomplishment when you're able to do it in 2WD. Nicely done man
@@Michael_Tran the videos are great! I like seeing people out doing something fun in nature and appreciate our rugged outdoors.
@@garrydhintz8017 Me too
Your trucks looks good . I might get that roof-rack
It's an awesome rack...very similar to prinsu
Do you have a locker? Truck did good!
I don't...just LSD
It did awesome! I need to do that trail one day. what did the 4runner hit?@@Michael_Tran
Awesome video bro! Looks like you are pretty busy in the trail, I didn't see much of your famous drone shots hahahaha. Is it easy to find the offshoots area?
Thanks Kevin! It definitely need your attention on this trail...however it was windy up top and from my experience flying a drone near rocky formation with high wind just make for a bad situation. I think if it wasn't windy...I would've got the drone up. Would love to see this from the drone haha...I have reason to go back now.
I love this vid man…great work as always! I wanted to ask…did you install a diff breather on your Taco for water crossings? Would you consider this for a 2wd?
I don't have one on mine...however I can see the benefit if you go through a lot of water, honestly I changed my diff oil a few months ago and it was still pretty clear after 5 years...so not sure if it's something I really need for myself.
Dang mike. That trail looks the toughest of all u been to.
I think it's up there with cold water canyon in Lytle Creek. This one have more obstacles however it's not as steep. If it was steep that would've been pretty hard.
Cool thing bro what apps are you using to find all these trails bro? Sheesh bad ass
Thanks man...I usually use a few apps. Alltrail, Off-road, OnxOffroad and then also google map and of course UA-cam for any trail review video
Hey brotha ! I’m pretty sure you’ve answered this before but are you running any lockers at all ? And I love the content bro ! My pops is giving me a great deal on his Sierra that is 2wd and your channel has given me hope that I can do some pretty good trails with the right set up keep up the awesome content !
Nice man! Congrats...no locker for me.
Wow that’s awesome man would you ever consider one ?? Would you pick a lunch box locker or a limited slip ?
@@theosoasisgarage1147 So I do have a limited slip and it helps a bit...but not like true locker. I think I would've gone with ARB air locker and would've done regear while I was at it. Would've made the Tacoma really capable on steep trails
It’s a beautiful truck and I think you’ve made your staple here on UA-cam being a 2wd off roader. I think the arb air locker with the regear would be a great investment and when you’re ready for that 4wd it could be your second truck . Questions for your limited slip what brand is at and when driving in snow and ice does it ever kick out on you ?
@@theosoasisgarage1147 Thanks bro! The limited slip comes with the truck so I didn't put it it. We already have a 4x4 and taking time to build it up a bit before taking it out on the trail haha...snow and ice was never good even with LSD on unfortunately.
great video bro.
Thank you!
Only one spotter needed just point left or right if you don't have a radio they can't hear you
Dude... I'm currently in Big Bear for vacation lol
Nice! You should hit up this trail...it's fun.
Do you know what light bar and brackets the black Colorado is using in his grill? Looking for something similar
Hell yeah brotha loved the video we need to do a trail together would be interesting to see what my 2wd could do
Thanks man! Clearance and a good set of tires will go a long way.
I'm wondering if my fwd maverick with AT tires can make it through but not the techy stuffs
@@thehybridoffroader OOhhhh...clearance is the main thing here...a good set of tires too. I hit my steps and diff a few time and I have 3inch lift with 33s...but you never know.
Did that ford ranger have a locker ?
No locker
@@Michael_Tran impressive
That blue taco is 2wd?
Yes sir
Does your Tacoma have Suspension/lift? Also what did you air down to?
Yes Bilstein 5100 and AT tires. Air down to around 20 psi
@@Michael_Tran 285s?
@@curchin6877 Yes
It would had been way much better with a 3” to 6” lift kit. Job done well though.
Yo Mike, how low do you air your tires down for the trails? I've never been on a trail b4. Thinking about going into it.
I usually air down to 18-20psi...15 if its sand
Is the red taco 4x4?
Yes sir!
Is your Tacoma open diff?
Yes this one is...my new one is a 4x4 with a locker
@@Michael_Tran Thanks. Now I got weekend plans 😎😎
@@jorgepadua5802 It's a great trail
I thought I needed 4wd and don’t do a fraction of what this guys are doing I should be fine with my 2wd
It's capable in 2wd...sometime you just need to send it haha
Once again this just goes to show that 90 percent of off roading does NOT require a 4wd folks, dang...unless ur hightailing in the mud or in water a 4wd vehicle rarely utilizes 4wd..most forget they even have it..some good tires, sliders, maybe lockers a little common sense and patience will get you thru quite a few trails..Avoid Hells gate and u should be cool folks
I agree...eventhough I was slower than the 4x4...it wasn't about speed. It's just about being out there with some friends having fun and seeing if we can crawl over some rock and go explore some beautiful areas. Hell's gate is definitely a hard NO for 2WD.
That’s an easy trail lol, hit harder trails and you’ll need 4wd, or if it’s raining or covered in snow.. when it’s dry easy Peezy
My bad. I wasn’t paying attention lol
His new suspension setup is nice!
vietnam brother, what MPG Are you getting?
Thanks man...around 15-18mpg
You have too many spotters on some parts of the trail with not enough experience from the damage of the rigs.
Yea, we realize that later. I think everyone was wanting to help however that ends up being bad instead of good
thats 4 wheeling
Its fun!
@@Michael_Tran once i get my 22 tundra finished were heading up to hit that trail
@@KevinJohnson-cr3yb Nice! Should be fun going through it with a full size truck.
Does the toyota have a rear locker
Not this Tacoma...my new 2021 off road does
@@Michael_Tranhave you got any videos of that bad boy
@@ashleygarnish9995 Yes...most of my video the last year has been with my 4x4
really cringey group here...I hope you all have become more educated spotters since this video.
Nah bro...still cringey and having fun with my friends
@@Michael_Tran well then learn to be more responsible on the trails , it is possible to have fun and be educated at the same time sir.
@@DigitalCity-sj4es thanks for the education? were just having fun day bro..this was 2 years ago
