I have 2 pair of Nick's boots, one pair are 10" Rangers (work boot) and the other pair are also Rangers but made like The Robert using brown domane leather and dogger heel, but with a 10" upper (for more "dressy" occasions). Went through the fitting process, which really is a MUST. After 21 years of wearing the lowest bidder combat boots, my feet are in poor shape. I finally broke down and bought the Ranger work boots first. Love them and can wear them ALL DAY working outside on our 4 acre homestead. Can't do that w/ ANY OTHER boots or shoes I own. These are so comfortable, I ended up wearing them for 3 days straight at Disneyland for my wife's birthday vacation. 13 hours / day walking on concrete. I could not have made it through with any other boot. I was kinda wishing I had these Travelers, though.
Have two pairs of Nick’s, both wildland fire boots. They’re worth every single penny of the price tag. It is also worth going through the sizing process. The build is based on a slew of measurements, not just length and width. If you’re going to spend the $ then take the time to allow Nicks to build you the best boot for your feet.
The one thing that stands out most to me is the included kilties, that's one aesthetic thing I miss about my Thorogood's. I can make myself a set of kilties no problem, but color matching will be tricky.
Man I've been impatiently waiting and checking for this review ever since the teaser on Insta and it did not disppoint!!! I want these bad!!! Can someone say tax return present!!
I've standard symmetrical feet, albeit big at 13D. Never had issues with other brands being off/tight/loose, etc so I printed the home self-measurement template and instructions off NB's website under the Sizing section - making sure that my printer settings were set to 100% scale; if not it would cause incorrect measurements - and after was able to order a pair of 8" Travelers in Wickett & Craig Double Stuffed Burgundy w/ 2021 Sandy Wedge. I ordered in 12.5 D per NB's recommendations to go down a 1/2 size from what you typically wear. Can't wait for them to arrive as I've been wanting a great, long-lasting walking boot for a while.
If you were going to buy these as a work boot instead of a casual boot they do offer it in some tough rough out leathers. That really does help with abrasion resistance.
I bought a pair of factory seconds 9E and usually I don’t like a narrow toe box (I got rangers) but these were the most comfortable boots I’ve ever bought. I used to be all about Red Wings moc toe but now I HAVE to try Nick’s travelers
Nicks actually recommends a tri fold in the tongue. Watch their "how to order" video and when they are trying on a pair in store, they say thats what they want is that tri fold.
Another bit of advice it’s terrible for your lawnmower but mow the yard early morning and get that boot soaked and continue to step in and step in and help mold it to your foot make the break and easier or you can just go walking through a creek
I don't own any nicks, but I am currently trying a new type of insole in my boots where I use several layers of vegetable tanned leather (currently 4 layers of 8 ounce but I think I might add another peice to raise the arch a little more) the break in period has almost been like a new pair of boots but the leather was already noticeably shaping to my foot by the end of the first day so I would imagine that boots that are made to have a similar internal structure using sole bends would have quite the break in period. For those who are wondering the insoles are a prototype that is only loosely stitched together so modifying them isn't difficult, i plan on creating an improved version that has a layer of cork and utilizes thinner leather such as pigskin for a faster break-in period(plus the 2 layers of thick leather directly under my toes is a bit too much and is bordering on crowding out my toes)
Interesting. I had never heard of these boots and maybe that was a good thing... I really like the look of them. Considering the handmade nature of them, the quality materials, and the customer service, the price doesn't seem over the top at all. I can't afford them right now but I would pay that kind of money for something like this. It's good to support domestically made, quality products. Keeps people who have valuable skills, working, and earning a decent (I hope) wage.
50% of the break and is breaking your foot into the new shoe if the arch is different you have small connective tissues that tear and repair that’s why your feet while it’s there in the break in so you can’t always blame the boat you got to go to the pain because you switched up the routine support again it’s connected tissues and small stuff they’ll hurt and heal
Sent my try on pair back a couple of weeks ago, impatiently waiting for My Builder Pros to get built. Loved the try on pair, almost decided to keep them.
You fold the tongue gusset under the false tongue rather than wrapping it around your leg. Pinch it and fold it to the inside on each side to create 3 layers between the laces and your leg, 4 layers with the false tongue.
I've tried it like that for year's. But, folding it the way I have it in the video has provided to " personally" more comfortable. Now that I'm on my third pair of boots that is built like this.
Sure, you have to do what works for you. I just wanted to wanted to mention the Nick's recommended method, which is the way I wear mine. @@TheBootGuyreviews
My dad has heal spurs and foot pain to the point that he owns upwards of 20 pairs of work boots. Not one is worn out. My question is will these boots do him any good as far as custom fit. He's been to a foot specialist and they won't do surgery yet. I feel for him and want to help. He's been a mechanic for 30+ years and I just want to get as much info so he can go to work pain free and enjoy a pair of boots.
I don't know it seems like a complicated situation. You'd have to talk to the people at Nicks. They are good people and they'll be honest with you. They're not hurting for business and they want happy customers. Best of luck with your pursuit of a comfortable boot for your dad.
I may not be the boot guy, but for a person who wears boots nearly all the time crew socks are really not good for boots. You would do best with getting some good boot socks like thick wool or blend. Darn tough socks are highly recommended as well as Red Wing boot socks. They will provide more cushiong, insulation, protection, and comfort than any crew sock could.
He failed to mention it. I mean, it's only BY FAR the information that people want to know but, yeah, don't mention it. However, these are NOT Predator Orange. They look like Wickett/Craig English Bridle in Tan but not sure.

It's very late but yes they have arch support. It's kind of in the insole and the way Nicks does boots. It's not a flat piece of leather, it's multiple layers shaped to a foot.
I don't think it matters to be honest. If it lasts 6months. The fact these are built better when compared to thorogood's, the leather lasts longer. So you get long life, you just have to get them resoled sooner.

You’re seriously comparing apples to rutabagas. Their is no comparison between a pair of Nicks and any Thorogood, Danner, even the most expensive Redwings.
Me personally i dont like in general boots that do speed laces to the eyelet before last and then do another eyelet. I personally lace my 8 inch boots all the way to the top and having either the top eyelet a speed lace or just being all laces is just easier.
If I added up all the money for crappy pairs of boots over the years i could have just bought these!! Saves money in the long run. People will spend 1k on a hunting rifle they use once a year but not 500 on something they use 16 hours a day!
As soon as you showed the profile I said that is my style. Nothing half ass about it. Very manly boot. Wish I can find a woman with a tongue like that.
Well you just made my day lol. I knew they sold them since they are a sacrifice piece of leather but wasn’t sure if they would look right since Thorogood’s are not designed for them.
$440 holy shamrock I'd be afraid to use them for work. My 5.11 coyote side zip boots last 2 yrs. Just about used up. Cost about $100 I got my $'s worth.
@@seamusc508 Well I am not particularly surprised that $100 boots are trash after two years. They are likely made out of trash materials to begin with. And ultimately I agree that I probably wouldn't use $400+ shoes for work. I was just pointing out that some of the value is in the fact that they could last you decades if taken care of.
I have both. I like the Nick's a bit more, but also like the Whites. Very, VERY little difference between the two of them really. I think it comes down to fanboyism, like Wranglerstar, the KING of Fanboyz.
I like the office and the traveler ]. I just want a great quality boot that looks the best. I do not need them for work and anything hardcode just riding my Harley and wearing out on the town with jeans. I do want the thickest leather roughed out just love that look. I was an officer in the USMC in the 80's those boots were crap. Black ugly boots that look lie Walmart made and they never broke in and had not arch support.
Steel/composite toe or not there is NO WAY Nick’s could compete with Thorogoods. Nick’s are handmade and fitted to YOU. Thorogoods are definitely not. Materials are far superior with Nick’s compared to Thorogoods. The time and material put into each pair of Nick’s causes the possible competition to be nonexistent. If you want a boot to last 25 years buy Nick’s or the other handful of handmade custom boot makers. If that’s not what you need stick to Thorogoods, they are decent boots for mass production line boots.
@@Deaddriftbum I know all of this.... My point isn't for mass production. But a wedge sole with a steel toe, as I would spend the extra money for the quality and comfort.
@@TheTyrial86 Frank's Hand Made will put a steel toe in for you. I have a set of their Ground Pounders with a black Vibram wedge sole and a steel toe. They're priced similarly to the Nick's. Excellent customer service.
Thats conservative. Vibram makes both outsoles and they are the same compounds. Red Wing just gets their logo thrown on the boot. So I don't think you'd actually have an issue Nicks just wanted to be on the safe side.
I said that for years and finally, after my 6th pair of Redwings I ordered a pair of White's boots and also, later, Nick's boots. I just sent the White's back for resole after 3 years. I didnt like this type of boot with this type of wedge sole either and then i went to a Red Wing to try out a pair of their 1907's which are the moc toe coopper rough and tough with the wedge soles and fell in love with them.
Do not waste your money. I have this exact pair of boots. Spent over 500 bucks, because one boot needed some custom work to fit properly. I got the comfort insole also. What a joke Walmart insoles are an improvement. Now 6 months into it I am back to wearing my old wore out Doc Martian’s because they are more comfortable and have lasted much longer. The soles on my boots have no tread they are not comfortable and the soft leather takes no abuse. I will never waste my money on Nicks boots again. If you want to spend over 400 bucks on a pair of boots go buy some kenetreks or something like that. The quality is 100 times better. I have a pair on order to replace the garbage I got from Nicks.

These look more like the Wickett/Craig English Bridle in Tan but they don't offer that leather in their "work" boots so i don't know what these are.
Looks great, I like 'em!!
They're $520 now
have worn die hards, thorogoods and now have a pair of danners…..a boot is still a boot and see very little difference between die hard and a Thorogood....sure the leather is softer and boot is bit lighter but its still a boot....for work boot I just don't see it...unless you have an oddshaped foot where I could see this making a difference.....I only got thoroggoods and danners because of sale ( danners arrived today) but I wouldn't pay $200 Thorogood now wants for their moc toe.....aside from the weight I didn't really find them much more comfy than diehard.....and leather fried on thorogoods…..I guess if the nick boot lasted 10yrs could justify the price....
You’re seriously comparing apples to rutabagas. Their is no comparison between a pair of Nicks and any Thorogood, Danner, even the most expensive Redwings.
Is it just me or does this toe box leave a lo of room out in from of your toes?
Me personally i dont like in general boots that do speed laces to the eyelet before last and then do another eyelet. I personally lace my 8 inch boots all the way to the top and having either the top eyelet a speed lace or just being all laces is just easier.
Have them customize it!
@@bc454irocz89 one day I hope to be able to afford a pair of customized and made for me boots. That would be awesome.
If I added up all the money for crappy pairs of boots over the years i could have just bought these!! Saves money in the long run. People will spend 1k on a hunting rifle they use once a year but not 500 on something they use 16 hours a day!
If you watch the videos Nicks produces showing the lace up, they don’t even use the top eyelet.
$400 lol. Closer to $600 now
and they do custom made any longer Franks and JK are the only ones that do custom builds
As soon as you showed the profile I said that is my style. Nothing half ass about it. Very manly boot. Wish I can find a woman with a tongue like that.
Can you have a safety toe on these boots?
Daddy like!! 🤘
455.00 to be exact
Wow
Wow I love those
The expensive Thorogood lol
If I could get a false tongue for my Thorogoods I would be in heaven.
You can! Both Nick's and White's sell them. I use them to take up room in the instep and shaft, because I have skinny ankles like Issac.
Well you just made my day lol. I knew they sold them since they are a sacrifice piece of leather but wasn’t sure if they would look right since Thorogood’s are not designed for them.
I'm sorry but u just gave to say as someone who lives in this area and has my whole life it's pronounced App-uh-latch-en not App-uh-laysh-un
$440 holy shamrock I'd be afraid to use them for work. My 5.11 coyote side zip boots last 2 yrs. Just about used up. Cost about $100 I got my $'s worth.
Are they resolable? Those Nick's should last 20 years with 4-6 resoles.
Replaceable lol my boots are trashed in 2 yrs. I rather spend $100 for a new pair.
Comparing Nicks and 5.11 is insanity. How much effort was put into custom fittingbtour 5.11’s? Have you ever worn Whites or Nicks?
I have a pair of 5.11 ATACs, they are a fine boot. I just ordered some Nick's because I've always wanted something like them and I like boots.
Thoughts on Nick's vs White's?
nicks is better, wranglestar has a vid on it, nomadic ink has some videos too
Nick's , hands down. I live in Spokane and have both.
Whites is now Foreign owned unfortunately. Owned now by the same Japanese company that owns Danner- ABC Mart.
I have both. I like the Nick's a bit more, but also like the Whites. Very, VERY little difference between the two of them really. I think it comes down to fanboyism, like Wranglerstar, the KING of Fanboyz.
I don’t want to see you wearing a shirt that says Machinest again
I like the office and the traveler ]. I just want a great quality boot that looks the best. I do not need them for work and anything hardcode just riding my Harley and wearing out on the town with jeans. I do want the thickest leather roughed out just love that look. I was an officer in the USMC in the 80's those boots were crap. Black ugly boots that look lie Walmart made and they never broke in and had not arch support.
I wish the sole was black not white
You can order them in black.
Looks like you can get black soles as they offer a fully customizable Traveler for the same price.
I wonder if they'd use the Thorogood wedge sole. Say what you will about the upper, the sole is pretty nice. Lasts a while.
Viktor Guzman / are you racist ??
Sonny Dey wtf how would I be racist your dumb as fuck
Once i started wearing the Red Wing 877 i stopped looking at other boots
These soles are glued on, any cobbler or even yourself can change them so that's a plus
Ante Pavelić wrong
@@ericmac564 no
Ante Pavelić they are sewn, not something you can do at home.
No they are glued to the midsold which is sown on
Ante Pavelić I stand corrected.
Man, if Nick's would make it with a steel toe and compete with thorogood. I would buy these over thorogood.
@@Deaddriftbum
I know all of this....
I know Nick's can do both steel and composite toes in their #4 toe. You can always ask them as they will do almost anything you want.
They can make you one
Cwost
I think you’re out of your damn mind to spend Five Hundo on a pair of boots.
It depends on if you use them for work or not. Redwings cost like $150 or something but last me around a year.
The GM at Nicks told me over the phone to expect 8 (eight) months life on the SOLE !I got three years on my red wing soles.
willie chance the nicks has the same sole (christy vibram) as red wings.
Thats conservative. Vibram makes both outsoles and they are the same compounds. Red Wing just gets their logo thrown on the boot. So I don't think you'd actually have an issue Nicks just wanted to be on the safe side.
Your promoting another companies boots and you need 4 ads? Too many. Had to thumbs down bro. Sorry.
*you’re
I'll stick with redwings lol
I said that for years and finally, after my 6th pair of Redwings I ordered a pair of White's boots and also, later, Nick's boots. I just sent the White's back for resole after 3 years. Honestly, these boots SAVE you money, it's weird but they do. I mean, they will if you actually work in them. If they are just for show or fashion then yeah, save your money and buy Redwings.
Sorry . I just don't like them .
I didnt like this type of boot with this type of wedge sole either and then i went to a Red Wing to try out a pair of their 1907's which are the moc toe coopper rough and tough with the wedge soles and fell in love with them.
@@richiesbbq same.
Your Docs came from a being from Mars?!?
Soft leather?? WTF? No, sorry dude, you can say what you want about Nick's but the leather is extremely thick and durable. They aren't going to break down because of the leather.
Soft leather that takes no abuse from Nicks Boots? I’m calling bullshit.
