- In this review, I'm going to take a look at another collaboration beer, this time between Guinness Ltd. (@GuinnessUS) and the Brooklyn Brewery (@TheBrooklynBrewery), and it's their Fonio Stout. This is an American Stout that is brewed with Fonio. I didn't know much about Fonio before reviewing this beer, but it's an ancient West African grain that Brooklyn has been infatuated with recently. This seems like a cool collaboration, so let's see how it is!
Commercial Description:
Our contribution to Brooklyn Brewery's Brewing for Impact Series, focusing on a unique West African ancient grain called Fonio. This stout is brewed in support of the Michael James Jackson Foundation and features notes of white wine, lychee, and tropical fruitiness. As unique a stout as we have brewed, but with a fantastic story.

Thanks for watching!
I was waiting for this one. Thanks. Guinness don’t deviate at all over here (except their “Open Gate” bar small batches, but even those are meh). Glad to see the review. Random fact: Arthur Guinness was born in my local pub!
That is a pretty cool random fact, Aaron! Yeah, this isn't anything crazy, but the Fonio is unique enough that it doesn't taste anything like a regular Guinness. Honestly, it's a fun beer to try, but it's not anything crazy. I'd love to see more breweries utilize Fonio, though. Seems like a fun grain. Appreciate the comment, and glad you enjoyed the review, man.
Cheers!
@@averagejoe716how was your palet compromised sorry that happened
All I meant by that, Brennagon, is I was sharing/drinking a bunch of different beers prior to drinking this one (when I originally had it), so it wasn't on a fresh palate, hence my palate being compromised. It's way different drinking this on a fresh palate. That's all.
@@averagejoe716oh oops the way it sounded to me like you couldn’t taste anything my bad Joe
Wow Joe...... with your new camera I can see your 🥦 and 🧀
Cheers
I had it under the table to replenish me after another long review, haha!
Cheers!
Sounds interesting. I am a big fan of the Guinness Extra foreign stout when I can find it. The fruit notes sound unusual but worth a try. Cheers 🍻!
It's definitely interesting and unique. Worth a try, without question. Not better than the Guinness Foreign Extra Stout, though. The fruit character is most certainly unique.
Cheers, Dan!
Was going to skip out on a Guinness as the stout this St Pat but now hope to spot this one. This, a marketing ploy on my attitude.
LOL! Definitely a marketing ploy, to some degree, but this is worth grabbing if you see a single, or a four pack that's reasonably priced. Not setting a new standard whatsoever, but the Fonio adds enough uniqueness that it's worth trying once.
Cheers, buddy!
Kinda want to try this
It's a solid beer, but nothing super crazy. Unique, though.
Cheers, Brennagon!
This one definitely caught my eye when I peeped it randomly in an nyc bodega, just didn’t make sense for me logistically to pull the trigger on a 4-pack. Also as to be expected it was marked up I think somewhere around the $18 range. Fun review sir! Ultimately doesn’t sound like i missed out on anything life changing, but it sounds somewhat unique and mighty quaffable.
No way I'd pay $18 for it. Wegmans was charging $13.99, which is probably appropriate for what it is. I think you probably made the right call, but if you see a single -- or a cheap four pack -- it's worth giving it a go. Fonio adds a cool dimension to this one, but I don't think it's big enough to justify this as a must-try beer. Definitely quaffable, but not life-changing whatsoever.
Cheers, sir!
Feels, bruh!
