Suggestion make a bag for each member of your family so if you have to travel on foot they have a pack just incase you get separated.

I like this suggestion, esp. for the 11 Y.O. something that looks like a book bag, but has the basics. I'm gonna work on one for my Grandson... even though he's only 18 Months! lol

There are some simple things that people can get for a simple med kit at Dollar Tree. Triple Anti Biotic, pain killers, generic benedryl, etc.
Also very important. Kotex pads, not for the obvious reasons but there can be used as a bandage for heavy cuts. Also, dog pads that people use for pets going to the bathroom on the floor. IF someone gets the "poops" they can actually be improvised in diapers, wet wipes to clean-up!
You did a great job, I'm impressed!
    P.S. Don't forget extra cigars!
    Best to ya',,,,!

Semper Fi! I'm sorry that this comment is going to be so negative and I'd bet that you're already updated this BOB a lot, but just in case! Unless you're going to build a log cabin, then you don't need an axe, the folding saw will do the job! Instead of 4 bivy bags, I would suggest a lightweight tent which keeps the family together and gives you better protection from the elements, and you can use one of those tarps to make the tent more weather-resistant. Other than the one quart canteen (I assume) on the second bag and the 64 pouches of water, based on 4 people for 3 days, that only gives each person about 25 ounces per day. That's not nearly enough, it's generally accepted that each adult requires 3 quarts (96 oz) of water per day just for drinking! IMHO, those pouches are a scam, you're much better off having at least a quart canteen/bottle for each child and at least a two-quart canteen/bottle(s) for each adult. Water is paramount, much more important than food, believe me dehydration will bring you down faster than most things (been there!), and carrying a heavy backpack will increase your need for water considerable! You have only a one quart container (that I saw) so you can (with the water purification tabs) only process one quart at a time and if you're having to keep moving then more containers and a good water filter are a must. Also, a good SS (at least 3 quarts) pot with lid for boiling water or cooking food (helps with the taste of MRE's) is needed! Other than the 'item-that-goes-bang' (which I hope your lady has one too), you don't appear to have any hunting and fishing items to supplement your food supply! On one MRE a day, you'll be starving in no time, and you will need that energy in a SHTF situation! Again, been there! I would strip down those hygiene pouches, anything not needed is dead weight. Other items somewhat random are 2 sharpies (different colors),a small shovel to make it easy to ditch cat holes for toilet and to bury any trash! Paper towels are much better than tissues (avoids messy fingers) and have many uses! Four head lamps in case you have to move at night (hopefully not, especially with kids) and hands free is a big bonus! Duct tape, obviously! Perimeter warning devices; I use strips of bubble wrap, cheap and can be abandoned without tears! Extra batteries, try to make everything electronic that you have use the same size battery or go with rechargeable things with a solar panel! I prefer freeze-dried foods for better taste and more importantly much lighter. I carry the #10 cans, but if I have the time I will open them and seal the contents in zip-lock bags to save weight and space! And they're cheaper than the pouches. I keep a large supply of energy bars handy, great for morale! Finally, a smaller knife for skinning and as a back up for the Kabar and a knife sharpener! Good luck Marine!

Family of 4 should have 4 backpacks. You can distribute stuff like you carry shelter, wife carry cook kit and food and similarly. But each person should have something on their body. This way each person has something and bags are a lot smaller and attract much less attention.
To be honest if someone saw you carrying it during shtf, you'll be attacked simply because of sheer amount of supplies they can get from a single person. Under attack the family will have to run seperate ways and they'll have nothing while this thing will slow you down.
Also ditch that bag. It screams PREPPER HERE. Get a simple 35l college bag which blends in.
This is just your bugout bag.
Everyone will be running to the woods with their axe, bugout bag and tent. Internet has given rise to millions of wannabe preppers. You ain't gonna chop down anything . Gotta think a different way.

I've got a EDC & 72 hour GHB for work, and a replica of them both hidden in my attic & an add on to make it a bug out bag.
I think the important part to to use the whole thing for recreational/adventure hobbies, that way one is constantly updating, adding to, removing, improving it.
A fold-up titanium stove is awesome and light, but for the speed and convenience a jetboil kit is worth it..
A msr guardian water filter or something is going to be lighter than carrying water for 5, but I guess you're not worried about weight if you've got a lumber jack axe in there

You might think about getting a couple of deer (wild game) carts so your kids can ride and you and wife can pull them. You don't look that old to me, so I'm thinking your children are not very old and may not be able to walk far. Or some type of travois. Big wheels so they roll over obstacles easier.

I like to carry 1 cup of “InstaMorph” in my pack for any unexpected fixes, repairs ect. It’s a thermoplastic in the form of small bb’s. But all you need is hot water if 150°F and it’s soft between a clay an playdoh. And can be stretched an flattened or rolled into anything you could do with a playdoh. And hardens into a really hard but not brittle, any shape thickness or whatever. Make handles, containers, use as a formable cordage the uses are limitless. Whatever the mind could think up or you could need or repairs. Just anything. Anyone that don’t know about that stuff should really look into it. An weighs nothing. Aside from that. If one use is done. Throw it back in the pack. 150° water you can remelt an stretch it into whatever else is needed in the moment. Unlimited uses an reusable as much as you can. It’s not sticky or nothing like that. It’s like a taffy when melted but slick. And. DIRT CHEAP. and a couple spoon fulls goes a really long way. A cup full is a lot.

I got some OD Green Duct Tape from Walmart and taped the excess straps up so they don't snag on stuff. I have a Long Term Bug Out Bag(USMC ILBE Main Pack), my wife has her own Long Term Bug Out Bag, my 12 year old daughter, and 9 year old son also have Bug Out Bags. We have a dedicated Medical bag(5.11 Rush 72), Food bag, Ammo bag, and Clothing bag with two sets of clothing. My tools are TOPS Brakimo Knife, Husqvarna 26" Multipurpose Forest Axe, Silky Big Boy 2000XL Folding Saw, Leatherman Supertool 300 Multi Tool, Cold Steel Spetznaz Shovel. All four members of my family have the MSS Modular Sleep System and Aqua Quest Safari 10x10 camo tarp, Arcturus 5x7 All Weather Blanket, Klymit Static V Recon insulated sleeping pad pillow, Sea to Summit Pyramid mosquito net. My wife and I have Gen3 ECWCS level 6 Goretex Top and Bottom in OCP for rain gear and the kids have Military Ponchos. I'd say for you and your family living in Texas, each of you having Military Ponchos and Poncho Liners would be a good option. Maybe only parts of the Modular Sleep System, the Goretex Bivy and Green Patrol Bag is all you would need. Each of us have a Sawyer Mini water filter kit and my wife and I each have a Hydroblu Go Flow Bag with 10 liter capacity(20 liter total) for a gravity filter system. I would invest in good headlamps, quality compass, Suunto MC2 is a great option, topo map, whistle, stainless steel water bottle or cookpot to boil water and cook in, and bandanas. Repair items like sewing kit, gorilla tape, super glue. I would recommend taking your gear out for a couple of days at a time and test your skills and gear. I learned quite a bit the first time out. Now I think I have everything dialed in. I hope some of these suggestions help. I have been doing this a long while. I pray none of us ever have to use this gear for real, although it doesn't look to good. Stay safe man, and God Bless you and yours.

Also not sure if you have stainless steel canteens or single wall bottles to thermal disinfect water long term that would be useful I just bought my family of 5 the Grayl geopress not gonna lie its expensive up front but kills 99.9 percent of viruses and everything that and couple extra filters for each just some food for thought thanks for the video man gave me quite a few ideals

I'm inclined to use packet water as irrigation tools when I don't have access to saline ..
you aren't walking shit out with kids in tow so you you'll be using some form of motor vehicle as transport even with mountain bikes setup for traveling distances you typically cover in a motor vehicle from a 90 min window to a distance factor of 12/24/48/72 hours at 55-80 MPH.. 25-1MPH between riding a bike to walking..
Noting 90-180 mins nets you 125-250 mile radius of movement ...
with motor vehicle in use you likely could survive a week with frozen soups and/or stews..
Min of 5-20 liter water bladder per person ..
I would not likely rely upon anything comes in a 250ml bag or less to these are sanitary use only..
As someone who has wound management experience I can state this you don't have enough medical supplies to maintain wound dressing..
A doodle book is a great option however I would likely keep a small laptop or tablet and keep a medical chart on the family members because it can be 3 weeks without seeing a Doctor in a state of emergency and the last thing the Docs want to see is your legible scrawl and decipher what medical aid you have done to your family members..
a type written report is the way to go..
my opinion purchase an old military truck and haul a 5th wheel with it..
unless the camping gear is rated to -30c to +45c what you might get in survival might be only applicable for summer weather winter and so for the stuff you obtain may not be suitable as long term use case scenario..

I would guess you probably ought to count on having your ex going with you. You might save space if you decide to do field strip your MRE‘s. Would standard MREs be better rather than the cold weather one along with the FRH. Granted the menu selection isn’t quite the best. A battery bank for your phones or electronica devices and even flashlights would be handy along with a folding solar panel you can clip to the outside of that pack to recharge those banks all day.
Those rite in the rain pads kick ass

To be honest with you, you would be better off keeping the freeze dried food in your packs, in the winter time, they won’t freeze, MRES will freeze solid, then they are useless !

    • @MarineX
      @MarineX  3 роки тому

This is true, except my bag is stored indoors. If and when i need this pack, the bag will be with us in warm environments (near a fire or in a tent). Cold Weather MREs are more durable

@@MarineX Exactly. I have a light Arcturus tarp in her bag, and I tried to keep it to 17 lbs, including food and an IFAC. She was a girl scout so she could keep herself alive for 48 hrs on what she has in the bag, if she doesn't have to carry it too far!
I also have a separate emergency kit in a Nalgene bottle jammed into one of her cup holders in the back of her minivan. If she only has time to grab her purse and that Nalgene bottle, she could make it home or at least to a hotel, really (we live in WDC, and it has a Couple hundred bucks in it).
We don't keep things that go bang in our cars, but she has a menacing looking knife and a club I made her within reach of the driver's seat!

I don't understand why you brought pre made hygiene kits. Wouldn't it be sensible to stick with the familiar?
Just put together a toiletries bag like you would for a hike or an overnight stay somewhere.
Use the toothbrush you are familiar with, the hair ties and travel brush you've tested and found good.
Very important, include a couple of bras. After natural disasters in Australia, many commented on losing their favourite, comfortable bras and feeling 'selfish' about prioritising getting new ones, but also feeling 'not myself ' and creeping depression etc from feeling frumpy.
All this gear looks new, have you tested your gear?
Do you have socks and worn in shoes?
How will you load out your gear once you get a moment?
    High vis vests for children?
Whistle and signal mirror on lanyard for children?

That bag is to big. How are you planning on moving fast if someone is being aggressive or shooting at you. Mine is half that size and I'll be wearing a plate carrier. I still have some items in my bag for my wife and kids but they will have to carry something.

    • @MarineX
      @MarineX  3 роки тому

I agree it's big. But the dynamic of my family, they can't carry anything (medical stuff). So in my case, something is better than nothing.

But not realistic.. first your not going to be chopping a three ft. Tree..! Your food pa ks down sice those big pks. To smaller an have some in seperat back pks. The hygiene pks. Disregard things not needed. You all maybe traveling a few miles.. with wife an kids there traveling time is maybe 6 blocks before they fold.. there goes your getaway time..
Your in danger every min. You stop. An do away with flashy things on your packs florecent.. if you had to get off the road you'd be spotted.. if you have to have anything large in pouches split things up between the two packs.. a small hatchet is perfect, a good hunting knife, small hand saw, . Your great on your ideas but down size.. the flash lights. Get good waterproofing lights small. No need for paper.? Who are you going to write..? Not trying to be rude.. but most is just not practical specially with kids..
