If you get a fire extinguisher it's recommended to take a rubber mallet and tap the extinguisher several times to get the powder that has settled over time fluffed up and ready to go every month when in your vehicle. I doubt people will do it that often but it is important to know and I guess it depends how often you drive your vehicle.
One thing I like to keep in my vehicle is a couple sets of flexi cuffs, just in case I run into someone who needs to be detained for their safety and mine, specifically in a SHTF situation. I keep one packed away behind my seat and one in the glovebox. Great videos man, keep them coming.
Large heavy duty zip ties are useful for that purpose too. Law enforcement agencies sometimes use those in riot situations. If you go the zip tie route get the UV rated ones as they tend to handle the temperature changes in bags and vehicles better than the regular versions.
I didn’t think of this before, something to cover your vehicle. Camo tarp or cover, something to make it less noticeable if not occupied. About your cartridge choices, I get it. But sometimes you need a smaller hammer. I would consider a 22 lr rifle. I like old school semi with open sights, a truck gun.
A 22 rifle is a good idea if you ever have to fire from inside the vehicle. 22’s are lethal too for those that might think it’s not powerful enough. Also, getting shot will demoralize most regardless of caliber. However, keep something more damaging like his AR-10/15/300 .
I just moved to my rural home. So thats where I plan to ride this out. When I lived in Green bay I had an old 65 Plymouth Valiant. I would take it to cruise nights and such but it doubled as a bug out vehicle. The car was completely analog, no solid state components. EMP goes off im still in business, I would prefer my little pickup for utility reasons once I got to my weekend home but what if. I have my 66IH Scout as well to fill that void at my rural property now so I sold the Valiant when I sold my house in Green Bay.
Yeah for my bug-out vehicle to Yukon I took out the middle row seats mainly store my s*** and then I took the back seat and made it like a tombstone from like that movie where they were all stuck on an island so I installed for Sheetz's f****** heavy-duty Steel in the backseat so you can't shoot through the backdoor
Just my two cents ... The OP has a solid thought process with each choice. But let me just make some other suggestions. For starters, I tend to go low tech. Less chance for failure. 1. Air Compressor. I instead go with a foot air pump. Not as quick for sure. But less noise, doesn't require power, and it will inflate vehicle tires. 2. Battery bank. I just go with extra long, heavy duty jumper cables. But I'll be the first to admit that there might be some situations where the cables just can't reach. (Though I have yet experienced that situation.) As for my battery banks, I prefer ones with a digital display. No guessing how much charge you have left. Also, some power banks come with solar panels. I've not been happy with any I have tried. Literally leave them in the sun all day and you don't even have enough charge to fully charge a single device. In a SHTF scenario, that solar panel might be a blessing. But it would take days of solar charging to get the power bank to full charge. 3. Hand tools are always a good idea. But one of the problems I have had is finding space to store them in a vehicle. Every vehicle is different. Take my wife's SUV for example. There isn't room for crap unless you want to take over the back storage area. Which defeats the purpose of having the SUV to begin with. 4. Nice little power tool kit. But 12 volt? That just seems low to me. 5. Machete. I have never found a modern machete I liked. Poor hand grips, bad blade edge, and low grade steel. My dad had a machete he got while in Turkey. The thing was a beast. Unfortunately, it was stolen and I haven't found a good replacement since. But I probably wouldn't include a machete in my EDC in the truck. Just personal preference and need for space. Silky saw instead. 6. Hatchet. Yes. Some of my tools are older than I am. This is an example. My hatchet is a Bridgeport from the 1950s. And you also need an entrenching tool. Mine is a German surplus from the 1960s. You want quality, go with vintage. 7. Fix blade knife. Yes. Go with quality. Too many knives are made to skimp on the tang and only go with half tangs. This is a point of failure on the knife. This is even true for military issued knives. You want a full tang knife. 8. Emergency radios. I have more than one. But the same rule applies with the solar panel. I prefer to go with a model that has a hand crank. And these days, pretty much every emergency radio comes with other features such as flash lights and USB charging. 9. Headlamp. Useful, I just never have added one to my EDC. I have multiple flashlights in the vehicle. 10. Monocular. Yes. Though I went with a full binoculars. They just come in higher magnification. But if space is an issue, I get it. 11. Blankets. Yes. Wool is your friend. 12. Pepper spray or similar product. I don't keep any in my vehicle. If somebody wants your vehicle or what's in it, these products aren't going to stop them. It is only going to enrage them and make them do more injury and harm to you. When somebody is willing to take something by force, all bets are off. 13. Water filtration. I fortunately live in a area where water is plentiful. If I need water, I just need to boil. Although water filtration will keep out most biologicals, you need to boil anyway to get rid of them all. So without saying, you do need a way to boil the water. 14. Emergency candle. I'm not a fan of open flame in your vehicle. That is not me. But with that said, I do have fire starters in my vehicle. 15. Gas cans. I go with metal gas cans. I've gone through so many plastic ones that I just told myself I might as well have gone with metal. I go with Justrite myself. 16. Fire Extinguisher. Yes. I mount mine on the driver side seat rail. Some other points of interest. 1. Cash. I'd leave it up to you on how much and where to hide it. 2. Street maps/atlas and compass. I have a military issue lensatic. But don't be surprised if you are in a room full of people and not even 10% no how to use either. Just not a skill taught any more. 3. First aid. Don't skimp. Treat your first aid kit like a trauma kit. Because 99 time out of 100 you are going into it for bandaids, tylenol, and sunscreen. But that 1 time out of a 100 you need to control bleeding, the person is going into shock, and you need pressure bandages, splints, and the like. I have made my own kit over the years and have even had people with a medical background review its contents and make suggestions on what to add or remove. And yes, you need to check your kit a minimum of once a year. You will be amazed how quickly things expire. 4. Travel size sanitize wipes and towelettes. This is EDC you will probably use on a very regular basis. I didn't know this until about a year ago but there is such a thing as a compressed towelette. In their compressed size, they are about the size of a quarter and as thick as a medication pill. Add a little water and presto. You have a wet towelette you can use for cleaning or TP. Takes no space and you save your sanitize wipes for when you actually need sanitizing. 5. Spare clothes. At least one set. I'd suggest keep them in a vacuum bag. 6. Protective clothing. Hat, work gloves, eye and ear protection, poncho, and a neck towel. 7. Emergency flare. People are use to the road side flares you set off and toss them on the street so people don't hit you on the side of the road. That is not what I use. I have a portable signal flare kit similar to what military issue pilots. The trigger fits in the palm of your hand and the flare cartridges are small too. The entire kit fits in both palms with room to spare. Very hard to find. My came from a Canadian company. I couldn't find a provider in the US.
12v cordless tools are a good idea for vehicles. In an emergency a 12 volt tool can be powered by a highly modified heavy duty extension cord with a set of gator clips on one end a modified battery on the other end ( a good use for old dead cordless battery packs) .
Open flame in camper leads to people not waking up in the morning. Great battle rifle, though I prefer a 22.cal. and several hundred rnds. of ammo for bunnies or bad asses. Great video, Thank You.
With my Sawyer mini water filter I have clear tubing and a squeeze bulb primer like you use for a boat gas tank. With the squeeze bulb I can put one end of the hose in the water and then use it to pump water through the Sawyer Mini Squeeze filter and into a container where it can be carried to boil and make a lot more safe to drink. I am even thinking about adding a pre filter to the end of the 3;hose and make it last a little longer.
Remember that siphoning a gas tank takes way too long. What you do is you get underneath the car with a flat pan like a wire draining pan for changing your oil that has a snout on it for pooring the oil into jugs get up under the vehicle with a small hammer or even a tomahawk and a screwdriver punch a hole in the bottom that it drain out quickly dump the gas into the Jerry cans and move on save a lot of time that is actually one of the methods that I do during hurricane response at times

Its got to be 100s of miles of mountains no way they will be able to find someone it be like a needle in a hay stack. I like your kit. I had an air compressor and jump pack until getting the Halo Air which has compressor, jump cables, light, and battery bank in one small footprint. Great video
Just a heads up I use that same air compressor and they often blow the little fuse that is in the cigarette lighter if you run them more than 5mins give or take a minute. So its a wise idea to carry not only the square fuses but also the round fuses especially if you have multiple things that plug into your 12v plug.
For air compressors, the move is to get a 12v adaptor that ends in alligator clips. Run it straight off the battery skipping the circuitry in your vehicle. They’re usually fused, so it’s good to get a spare anyway, but it’s helpful. Keep in mind that usually it’s a 15 amp fuse in the dash, but the lighter socket isn’t usually the only thing on that circuit. So a 15amp compressor can kill it.
Hey man, that Fiskars "axe" you showed is what we would call a splitting maul. Very useful for processing cut logs, but I wouldn't want to use it to take down a tree, much less trees. You swing that thing against a standing tree and I bet you won't last more the 30 minutes, don't care what kinda shape you're in (unless you're Paul Bunyan!)
I was thinking the same thing. I would definitely plan on carrying a splitter for any distance. It wouldn't even function well as an axe. I have never heard of anyone felling a tree with a splitter.
If you are going to keep an item that uses the 12v/cigarette plug then you might also want to keep additional fuses that power those ports. I’ve seen too many cop cars that burn through those fuses for all of their work and personal items. If this has been said before, my bad.
Like another man said.. When it comes to the tire inflator, I carry extra fuses for the car's cigarette lighter AND for the tire inflator itself. On top of that, I would first recommend knowing what TYPE and SIZE your car's cigarette lighter fuse is, and WHERE it is located before you find yourself with a unusable cigarette lighter socket. 2nd, If you really want to have redundancy, you could get yourself a female cigarette lighter to alligator clips adapter to hook up to the battery directly. "2 is 1, 1 is none"😅
Be aware… the Fiskars stuff is nice but when the handle breaks, and it will, it can’t be replaced.. wood is the way to go for the long haul. You an always make a new handle. My .02

A very good video and Bug Out Vehicle equipment. For me I would have a .357 revolver and a lever action in .357 as well, that way I would only have to carry on type of cartridge and more of them. I understand about the .45 and agree totally, just want to carry to weapons with one caliber. Thanks for a great video and solid views and reasons. Take care and stay well. An addition would be some form of communication - CB radios, hand held Ham radios or walkie talkies, have them with encryption or special channels.
Great content. I'd just jump in my truck and call it good. I have a very competent recovery/tool kit. My hunting bag lives in the tool box along with real fishing gear.There is a Go Berkey and two Sport Berkeys that live in the truck, plus the Go's that the wife and carry. I EDC an MR918 9mm with extra mags. With my EDC bag, hunting bag, and BO, I have a lot of capability and redundancy. The truck guns that would seem non-conventional , to most, are the ones I never leave without. I do love an AR10/SR25 rifle. However, I carry a LCR-357, GP100-357, and a Rossi 92 16" 357. Hear me out. I've been shooting and reloading 38/357 for over 30 years. I can load everything from 38 shot, 38 small game, 357 personal defense, and 357 hunting. I've killed more feral hogs with 357 than all my other rifles combined. The only reason I haven't killed more deer is that I've owned a 30-30 for longer. I have enough ammo that even my sons will never run out. I also keep a hand reloading kit with supplies in my hunting bag.

New to the channel and like what I'm seeing....very detailed and thoughtful in your edc tool choices....also, I like the fact that you mention that they may not be "one size fits all" and could be interchangeable depending on scenario...gives some insight from a different perspective. Depends on how you engage your target. In an Urban environment, it's likely you'll have time and cover so a container could be viable. As for counts, I keep at least 500 rounds per viable weapon at the ready. Meaning I don't have 500 Saturday night special rounds laying around because that reload is to slow.
my opinion whether the gun is used for hunting or self defense whilst the engagement may differ the old adage reach out a touch and touch someone rings true.. the more scoped weapons you can have on target the less likely you need to reach someone at arms length because you have failed if they are within 3 feet of you .... Sooner the better you get migrated from the training round of .22 to either 7.62x51 or 7.62x54 or some variation of creedmore round the better off you all will be If you are loading shotguns with bird/buck shot you might as well be firing slugs for self defense.. As far as air compressors go tire inflation I always go with a small shop option, you be lucky to pump up a pushbike tire lrt alone pump[ing up a 4x4 tire... With a bare minimum of a 2.5 ton vehicle 7.5-12 ton winch systems or bigger... If I'm going to rely on a 9mm-.46 acp as a defensive round, i be looking at platforms that deliver the round and the longest ranges I wouldn't rely a pistol round out of a pistol.. Pistol carbine or mp5/mac 10 would likely be the chosen platform
I live in a really hot southern state too, how do you think the items hold up in a hot car in the summer? That’s my biggest worry when thinking about storing water, matches, electronics etc.
awesome video. glad i found this channel. my only extra equipment include vehicle stuff like jumper cables, one of those tire air pumps that you plug into the cigarette lighter, glass breaking pen/seatbelt cutter, and some other odds and ends like that for the vehicle itself. question though: how would you define a "bugout situation"--specifically the time frame? i know some super duper ready types that just grab a bag from the back of their closet and they can go as soon as they grab it, but i also know others that say a bugout situation means they'd have to leave within 1 hour. i guess it all depends, but just wanted your personal take on it. thanks!
Just a suggestion but if you’re this concerned with safety why not build a camper van out of a dodge promaster or something similar. You can have solar, heat a refrigerator for food you can have insulation etc. I can’t imagine going into the woods with a backpack and being comfortable for very long much less survive but with a van you can store lots of food and be way more comfortable

It was my dream to go into the Military , but I had cancer as a teenager and couldn't get in. I come from a long line of military service in the family. My father was a Senior Chief in the Navy! All my uncles were military as well as a host of family members going back as far as 1649. My son and sister were in the Army. My sister turned 40 and a grandmother while she was in Iraq! My son spent his 4 years in Germany. Both were Combat Medics. My dad was in the Korean and Vietnam wars. And was on the USS Forestall with Senator John McCain when the bomb shot across the deck of the carrier and hit McCain and another pilots plane and exploded killing 134 sailors and wounding countless others. One of my dads brothers was in WW2, Korea and Vietnam wars! My dad's oldest brother was a Devil Dog like you. He fought in the Pacific theater. Enough of me though. You make excellent videos. By leaving in some of the verbal mistakes makes you seem more real than some other youtubers. I guess it helps when you enjoy what you're talking about. Keep it up! And God bless you and your family!

Texas is a castle state, so you don't need any additional information. They come to car during an actual bug out. I use MREs, specifically the cold weather versions.
I love your videos but you know 7.62x51 is the exact same thing as .308 right? I’m sure you do but the way you worded it may confuse some viewers. Don’t want people putting 7.62x39 in their ar-10
They aren't the same thing. There are some actual differences between .308 vs. 7.62x51. These differences include pressure, case dimensions, and chamber dimensions. I’m going to tell you to only shoot .308 Winchester ammo in rifles chambered for .308, and only shoot 7.62 NATO (51) in rifles chambered for 7.62 NATO. Most rifle owners do use these two calibers interchangeably, however.
You are talking about .0005 difference in headspace...not an issue. Except when it comes to old surplus ammo. And modern 7.62 chambers are cut even closer to .308 standard chambers. But I will submit that I was talking generally, in an AR platform, will agree it is more of a risk.
That battery bank with Jumper cables, now that is cool.
Jump packs / power bank combos are good if you are not going to create too much demand on them. ie: 3 jump starts then phone charging for 3 people.

I have a portable signal flare kit similar to what military issue pilots. The trigger fits in the palm of your hand and the flare cartridges are small too. The entire kit fits in both palms with room to spare. Very hard to find. My came from a Canadian company. I couldn't find a provider in the US.
12v cordless tools are a good idea for vehicles. In an emergency a 12 volt tool can be powered by a highly modified heavy duty extension cord with a set of gator clips on one end a modified battery on the other end ( a good use for old dead cordless battery packs) .
I'm really consistent with your thought process. Simular layout for bug in or out items.

With my Sawyer mini water filter I have clear tubing and a squeeze bulb primer like you use for a boat gas tank. With the squeeze bulb I can put one end of the hose in the water and then use it to pump water through the Sawyer Mini Squeeze filter and into a container where it can be carried to boil and make a lot more safe to drink. I am even thinking about adding a pre filter to the end of the 3;hose and make it last a little longer.

Remember that siphoning a gas tank takes way too long. What you do is you get underneath the car with a flat pan like a wire draining pan for changing your oil that has a snout on it for pooring the oil into jugs get up under the vehicle with a small hammer or even a tomahawk and a screwdriver punch a hole in the bottom that it drain out quickly dump the gas into the Jerry cans and move on save a lot of time that is actually one of the methods that I do during hurricane response at times

Just a heads up I use that same air compressor and they often blow the little fuse that is in the cigarette lighter if you run them more than 5mins give or take a minute. So its a wise idea to carry not only the square fuses but also the round fuses especially if you have multiple things that plug into your 12v plug.
For air compressors, the move is to get a 12v adaptor that ends in alligator clips. Run it straight off the battery skipping the circuitry in your vehicle. They’re usually fused, so it’s good to get a spare anyway, but it’s helpful. Keep in mind that usually it’s a 15 amp fuse in the dash, but the lighter socket isn’t usually the only thing on that circuit. So a 15amp compressor can kill it.
Hey man, that Fiskars "axe" you showed is what we would call a splitting maul. Very useful for processing cut logs, but I wouldn't want to use it to take down a tree, much less trees. You swing that thing against a standing tree and I bet you won't last more the 30 minutes, don't care what kinda shape you're in (unless you're Paul Bunyan!)
City boys never had to split wood for punishment when they got caught skippin school to go fishin.
Saw that and thought the exact same thing… pretty much worthless if the plan is not to split firewood… better than nothing though I guess.
I was thinking the same thing. I would definitely plan on carrying a splitter for any distance. It wouldn't even function well as an axe. I have never heard of anyone felling a tree with a splitter.
If you are going to keep an item that uses the 12v/cigarette plug then you might also want to keep additional fuses that power those ports. I’ve seen too many cop cars that burn through those fuses for all of their work and personal items. If this has been said before, my bad.
Like another man said.. When it comes to the tire inflator, I carry extra fuses for the car's cigarette lighter AND for the tire inflator itself. On top of that, I would first recommend knowing what TYPE and SIZE your car's cigarette lighter fuse is, and WHERE it is located before you find yourself with a unusable cigarette lighter socket. 2nd, If you really want to have redundancy, you could get yourself a female cigarette lighter to alligator clips adapter to hook up to the battery directly. "2 is 1, 1 is none"😅

A very good video and Bug Out Vehicle equipment. For me I would have a .357 revolver and a lever action in .357 as well, that way I would only have to carry on type of cartridge and more of them. I understand about the .45 and agree totally, just want to carry to weapons with one caliber. Thanks for a great video and solid views and reasons. Take care and stay well.
An addition would be some form of communication - CB radios, hand held Ham radios or walkie talkies, have them with encryption or special channels.
Great content. I'd just jump in my truck and call it good. I have a very competent recovery/tool kit. My hunting bag lives in the tool box along with real fishing gear.There is a Go Berkey and two Sport Berkeys that live in the truck, plus the Go's that the wife and carry. I EDC an MR918 9mm with extra mags. With my EDC bag, hunting bag, and BO, I have a lot of capability and redundancy.
The truck guns that would seem non-conventional , to most, are the ones I never leave without. I do love an AR10/SR25 rifle. However, I carry a LCR-357, GP100-357, and a Rossi 92 16" 357. Hear me out. I've been shooting and reloading 38/357 for over 30 years. I can load everything from 38 shot, 38 small game, 357 personal defense, and 357 hunting. I've killed more feral hogs with 357 than all my other rifles combined. The only reason I haven't killed more deer is that I've owned a 30-30 for longer. I have enough ammo that even my sons will never run out. I also keep a hand reloading kit with supplies in my hunting bag.
Great info! I love the 1911 format. For me I like Springfield so I went with a higher capacity handgun and you can get it in 45 ACP too. Just something to possibly consider. Good luck to you and your family. Thanks for sharing.

Depends on how you engage your target. In an Urban environment, it's likely you'll have time and cover so a container could be viable. As for counts, I keep at least 500 rounds per viable weapon at the ready. Meaning I don't have 500 Saturday night special rounds laying around because that reload is to slow.
my opinion whether the gun is used for hunting or self defense whilst the engagement may differ the old adage reach out a touch and touch someone rings true..
the more scoped weapons you can have on target the less likely you need to reach someone at arms length because you have failed if they are within 3 feet of you ....
Sooner the better you get migrated from the training round of .22 to either 7.62x51 or 7.62x54 or some variation of creedmore round the better off you all will be
If you are loading shotguns with bird/buck shot you might as well be firing slugs for self defense..
As far as air compressors go tire inflation I always go with a small shop option, you be lucky to pump up a pushbike tire lrt alone pump[ing up a 4x4 tire...
With a bare minimum of a 2.5 ton vehicle 7.5-12 ton winch systems or bigger...
If I'm going to rely on a 9mm-.46 acp as a defensive round, i be looking at platforms that deliver the round and the longest ranges I wouldn't rely a pistol round out of a pistol..
Pistol carbine or mp5/mac 10 would likely be the chosen platform
I live in a really hot southern state too, how do you think the items hold up in a hot car in the summer? That’s my biggest worry when thinking about storing water, matches, electronics etc.
I do monthly maintenance. Most items are ok.
awesome video. glad i found this channel. my only extra equipment include vehicle stuff like jumper cables, one of those tire air pumps that you plug into the cigarette lighter, glass breaking pen/seatbelt cutter, and some other odds and ends like that for the vehicle itself.
question though: how would you define a "bugout situation"--specifically the time frame? i know some super duper ready types that just grab a bag from the back of their closet and they can go as soon as they grab it, but i also know others that say a bugout situation means they'd have to leave within 1 hour. i guess it all depends, but just wanted your personal take on it. thanks!
Just a suggestion but if you’re this concerned with safety why not build a camper van out of a dodge promaster or something similar. You can have solar, heat a refrigerator for food you can have insulation etc. I can’t imagine going into the woods with a backpack and being comfortable for very long much less survive but with a van you can store lots of food and be way more comfortable

It was my dream to go into the Military , but I had cancer as a teenager and couldn't get in. I come from a long line of military service in the family. My father was a Senior Chief in the Navy! All my uncles were military as well as a host of family members going back as far as 1649. My son and sister were in the Army. My sister turned 40 and a grandmother while she was in Iraq! My son spent his 4 years in Germany. Both were Combat Medics. My dad was in the Korean and Vietnam wars. And was on the USS Forestall with Senator John McCain when the bomb shot across the deck of the carrier and hit McCain and another pilots plane and exploded killing 134 sailors and wounding countless others. One of my dads brothers was in WW2, Korea and Vietnam wars! My dad's oldest brother was a Devil Dog like you. He fought in the Pacific theater. Enough of me though. You make excellent videos. By leaving in some of the verbal mistakes makes you seem more real than some other youtubers. I guess it helps when you enjoy what you're talking about. Keep it up! And God bless you and your family!

Texas is a castle state, so you don't need any additional information. They come to car during an actual bug out. I use MREs, specifically the cold weather versions.

I love your videos but you know 7.62x51 is the exact same thing as .308 right? I’m sure you do but the way you worded it may confuse some viewers. Don’t want people putting 7.62x39 in their ar-10
They aren't the same thing. There are some actual differences between .308 vs. 7.62x51. These differences include pressure, case dimensions, and chamber dimensions. I’m going to tell you to only shoot .308 Winchester ammo in rifles chambered for .308, and only shoot 7.62 NATO (51) in rifles chambered for 7.62 NATO. Most rifle owners do use these two calibers interchangeably, however.
You are talking about .0005 difference in headspace...not an issue. Except when it comes to old surplus ammo. And modern 7.62 chambers are cut even closer to .308 standard chambers. But I will submit that I was talking generally, in an AR platform, will agree it is more of a risk.
