the equation for the decreasing advantage of increasing prop size finally sprung to my mind since prop area is: f(x) = πx² rate of increase is linear: f'(x) = 2πx but combining those two is really what we were looking for: g(x) = (2πx)/(πx²) this shows the proportion of the newly added prop area to the then resulting overall prop area graph them, it's really cool
You’re right about prop size. Love my 3” TorqueFPV Hornet with Vista that I built after watching Furadi’s videos. 3” is viable HD even with the regular Vista cam. It rocks.
1st flight with the babytooth tonight, need to fly my other jhemcu build back to back with it, but your Zeez board felt like it was way more locked in. Killer man, also love the look of the phantom, just wish it was 3".
Do you really trust channels like that or uavfutures? I've got nothing to gain here. I may or may not have a link in the description but banggood has caught on that I'm not a yes man and stopped working with me. Took them years to figure it out. I'd strongly advise staying away from pretty much every single RTF and strictly China based company in this industry. Look for the components you want and build yourself. RTF is a loosing option always. Never has there been an RTF that's even nearly as good as a DIY build other than whoops here or there. Whoops generally have an unfortunately short lifespan anyways however. Overall this quad is alright but I wouldn't recommend it unless you're only planning on only flying it once or twice because it's nothing special and nothing that will last too long.
@@Kabab Man you nailed it. Even whoops are susceptible to these QC issues. I'm trying to get BetaFPV to either take back my Beta95x v2 HD or give me a new board because a motor keeps burning out for some reason. I haven't made any modifications to PIDs or rates, stock firmware, etc. So frustrating sitting here changing things out when I bought a BNF to avoid building it. I'm strongly considering only building going forward.
@@vbp6us only build. It's a waste of time and money to go with anything RTF. It might seem cheap up front but it's actually a lot more expensive in the long run
I realize this video is 4 months old. Last couple weeks I have been thinking about getting the non HD version of this just to have a park flyer. Or something I can throw in my bag. But I really have had poor luck with emax tinyhawk FS. Not sure I want to dump another $50 into another aio fc esc. I guess I'd rather have some real parts or even upgradable parts. Yep the original dji cam is absolutely far better. The TP3 would need more power to carry a Vista well and also a thicker frame to support the load in a crash....it wouldn't be a toothpick really anymore. I personally would also prefer the full dji cam along with reasonable protection for the Vista components......that's what the Fouride is. I tried to make it little but I wouldn't want to fly it daily myself without all those features.
@@Kabab regarding the original dji cam - I recently only started to notice how bad the picture gets in the evening... when looking into the sky it darkens the ground so bad that I cannot see a damn thing down there (looks cinematic n stuff but that's not really the point of an fpv cam imo). Did you have similar issues and maybe find a solution (I can't find anything on the Internet regarding that cuz searching for anything with dji in it on Google gets you pretty much only shopping results -_-)
Almost bought the original, glad i didn't. I'm still a big fan of the emax babyhawk r3, on 4s that thing rips and flys on a laser. The downside is the vtx sucks and is pinned to the FC. Still i think it's one of the best 3 inch quads to date!
I was about to hit checkout but you dissuaded me from doing so. I may build my own in the future with specifications you mentioned but I think I'll pass on the BNF.
Honestly I wouldn't say it's "difficult" to have 99% QC in electronics. The problem is people just don' t have that mindset. Particularly in this hobby. Like when you design a product, you also design the test harness for it at the same time as well as the test infrastructure (scripted/modified version of Betaflight or something). So the whole thing turns into literally just dropping a board into a fixture and letting the test auto-run and report results.
Well it's not that QC is just like 10% bad. It's sometimes greater than 50% fail rate on first plug in. This is across several hundreds. Betafpv is the worst at making electionics. We stopped selling all their electronics because that have a greeter than 60% failure rate within a couple flights without any crashes or anything
@kababfpv I'm currently building a Phantom HD and deciding what motors I want to go with has been hard. I know you said 1204 5000kv would be a much more controllable motor on the lower half of the curve. What do you think of going 1206 instead?? I saw GepRC has a 1206 4500kv. I'm thinking 1206 4500kv with the battery underneath might be good? But I'm a total newbie to FPV and don't really know what I'm talking about. Please shed some light on me if I'm saying crazy things!? 🤪
What are your thoughts on the phantom HD vs the babyhawk II HD? Thinking of buying something along this size to use with the insta360 go 2 but cant decide between the two. Looks like the phantom has a much smaller footprint

Have you checked out the crosfire nano tx yet? I’m considering buying either the tango 2 or x9 lite with the nano tx. Same price but the tango is more compact but lacks the 1W of the nano tx. Which would you recommend?
I personally still prefer the X9 lite. Something about the gimbals just feels a lot better to me but the Tango 2 is a much better controller in terms of quality. The new crossfire stuff looks amazing
My Fouride frame design in 4" is what I'd recommend. I tried to make it smaller but I personally don't care for the nebula cam and prefer tht dji cam much more. I also want some decent protection for the cam and vista as well as a really tight CG. The Fouride is what I ended up with. They're actually really durable because of how light they are. Going with something overly strong will steeply impact flight performance. The 3mm BabyTooth is more durable than the TP3 but the TP3 performs much better and is really easy to repair if you do break an arm
Hey bob, does your fpvcycle zeez 1s board work with the emax tiny d8 receiver that u sell. Reason I ask is I can’t seem to get betaflight input on the receivers page. The proper pads are bridged on the back of the fc since it had a crossfire receiver on it already.
KababFPV I suspect that you are 100% correct about that, but I do think that if the way center of mass affects the torque needed for rotation was talked about a little more, people would definitely benefit from understanding it.
Considering it's running similarly small motors for a 4" prop, I wouldn't expect it to perform much different than this quad but maybe. If one shows up for me I'll give it a spin. For now I'm not really actively working on looking for things to review. Extremely busy with new products

Is this version 3 of the firmware? I bought the iflight A85 with version 1 and they sent me a new one called version 2 which improved the ghosting or foggy look in the tree lines but still nowhere near as good as Vista/Dji camera. They should market this as a light weight budget digital camera so the consumer will be expecting a “lesser’ quality performance.
Any plans on getting non hv 1s 450s with xt30s ? Just curious cause I need to get some in the next few months so figured I’d ask before I look elsewhere
the overall weight for the prop size goes up with 4S and I won't use anything below a 450mah cell because of the poor amperage and cycle life. Overall, this thing flies fine but it's a bit problematic due to it's small motors and small props for the given weight. Weight distribution could improve as well. It's not bad but more voltage isn't going to fix anything but speed which I don't feel it needs.

I don't. I love the naked GoPros but I don't really use them because the risk of breaking them is so much higher. I don't really have patience for that.
I forgot to explain that the main board that came on mine was broken so I had to swap to a board I had sitting around for over a year which had 3.5.7 on it and didn't work with the firmware updates because it was a prototype board and didn't match up to the firmware version
I did the 1204 on the hornet hd and it weighs 100 grams. I’m just trying to reduce prop wash, I wonder if the 1204 motors are strong enough, it feels good flying but prop wash is annoying. I’m not sure if I should go up to 1404 if that would help. Maybe I’ll figure out the right tune.
Ok I take it back 1204 is fine. I updated the esc protocol and it’s totally perfect now. No prop wash at all on FalcoX defaults. FalcoX is picky with these things.
how does the dji controller compare to x-fire range wise? i can get dji video and fail safe on the tango 2 250mw not an issue with full x-fire @ 500mw.
the DJI controller is unfortunately pretty bad. bad range, bad gimbals. only good things are that the battery lasts a long long time and that you don't need a different receiver. it's built into the signal. the goggle range is far far better than the controller however for some reason
it doesn't actually fly very well. I have BF3.5.7 on this and it's on full defaults. 3.5.7 is generally better suited to micros with less work needed to get it flying okay. That doesn't change the fact that the quad itself is not really setup to perform excellent with it's small motors, small props and medium to high weight.
Dude...I know you're busy with your career and all, but I'm (and thousands more lemmings just like myself) jonesing for some content. All the slop from the other drone channels isn't scratching the itch...I've got the tourniquet, syringe, spoon, cotton swab, and lighter all laid out and ready... just need the gear.

It's a unibody frame. I prefer something repairable in anything bigger than 3".

A TP3 with a Vista would be perfect. I'm not impressed with that camera though. The original DJI camera has far superior picture and quality.

It's 2.5" prop I believe so 1204 really should be fine

850 is fine but it's limited in providing the amps needed for full performance. That's why the 1100mah.

KababFPV I suspect that you are 100% correct about that, but I do think that if the way center of mass affects the torque needed for rotation was talked about a little more, people would definitely benefit from understanding it.

Considering it's running similarly small motors for a 4" prop, I wouldn't expect it to perform much different than this quad but maybe. If one shows up for me I'll give it a spin. For now I'm not really actively working on looking for things to review. Extremely busy with new products

Is this version 3 of the firmware? I bought the iflight A85 with version 1 and they sent me a new one called version 2 which improved the ghosting or foggy look in the tree lines but still nowhere near as good as Vista/Dji camera. They should market this as a light weight budget digital camera so the consumer will be expecting a “lesser’ quality performance.

Why do you only fly in 3s ? (my 95X-vista is a real tank in 3s and correct in 4)
the overall weight for the prop size goes up with 4S and I won't use anything below a 450mah cell because of the poor amperage and cycle life. Overall, this thing flies fine but it's a bit problematic due to it's small motors and small props for the given weight. Weight distribution could improve as well. It's not bad but more voltage isn't going to fix anything but speed which I don't feel it needs.

Any motor that's got a poor surface area to volume ratio can be cooked. especially if filters are off.

Do you have pwm out pads on your 1s boards for the motor outputs? Even little tiny ones?
Depends on the board in question. The betafpv one has connectors and no pads and the other 1s board has pads I believe.

I don't. I love the naked GoPros but I don't really use them because the risk of breaking them is so much higher. I don't really have patience for that.

I forgot to explain that the main board that came on mine was broken so I had to swap to a board I had sitting around for over a year which had 3.5.7 on it and didn't work with the firmware updates because it was a prototype board and didn't match up to the firmware version

I did the 1204 on the hornet hd and it weighs 100 grams. I’m just trying to reduce prop wash, I wonder if the 1204 motors are strong enough, it feels good flying but prop wash is annoying. I’m not sure if I should go up to 1404 if that would help. Maybe I’ll figure out the right tune.
reducing weight helps with propwash a lot more
and throttle limit on top amost completely takes it away
For 2.5" I recommend 12 size motors. No need for more

Ok I take it back 1204 is fine. I updated the esc protocol and it’s totally perfect now. No prop wash at all on FalcoX defaults. FalcoX is picky with these things.

how does the dji controller compare to x-fire range wise? i can get dji video and fail safe on the tango 2 250mw not an issue with full x-fire @ 500mw.
the DJI controller is unfortunately pretty bad. bad range, bad gimbals. only good things are that the battery lasts a long long time and that you don't need a different receiver. it's built into the signal. the goggle range is far far better than the controller however for some reason

it doesn't actually fly very well. I have BF3.5.7 on this and it's on full defaults. 3.5.7 is generally better suited to micros with less work needed to get it flying okay. That doesn't change the fact that the quad itself is not really setup to perform excellent with it's small motors, small props and medium to high weight.
