Great instruction, worked like a charm. The only advice I would offer is to make sure you take off the back panel when done chipping the ice to check that the drain tube was not clogged. If so, you can easily remove it, clean the debris blocking the tube and reinstall fairly easily.
Thanks so much for the video, my 14 year old daughter and I used it to fix our fridge and I love teaching her the valuable lesson that not everything broken is trash and women can fix things too ❤
I can't thank you enough. The refrigerator started acting up late last night and thanks to your thorough instructions we fixed the problem and probably saved a marriage.
Great video, super clear instruction step by step. I mainly just needed to get to the evaporator to de-ice it, but the instructions and the camera work were extremely clear and detailed. Well done, and thank you very much!
Excellent video with detailed step-by-step instructions. The only thing missing was more details about the symptoms of why one would need to replace this part. For example, I am seeing ice build-up at the bottom of my freezer (inside the unit) but the cooling is perfectly fine. The gentleman said if this part fails, the temperature will rise in both sections of the unit (fridge and freezer) but for me that's not the case. So I'm not sure if should go through the trouble of replacing this part.
This is a repair video, so it wouldn't go through the troubleshooting. If you have a defrost issue, here is a link to a video to show what to check: ua-cam.com/video/OkJ7fXtenbU/v-deo.html
Great video instructions also explaining heater replacement except daughter’s LG has a lower ice maker, another step. Might be time for another refrigerator.
My LG french door refrigerator have ice on the buttom of the freezer drawer, seems it is the water come down from the de-froster in the back. Normally, where should these de-frost water go?
Thank you for the video! We are having this very issue with our 2 yr old LG fridge. There seems to be a significant amount of ice build up behind the panel (still defrosting now). Do we need to replace the heater? I see some people just melt the ice and put the panel back on. Our fridge is only 2 yr old, we never had this issue with our 10 yrs old LG fridge. How do you determine when to replace?? I'd appreciate anyone's input 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
@@navyjuice77 Thank you for the reply! Took a while but defrosted all the ice buildup and so far it seems to be working without any issues. Hope we won't be doing this again anytime soon but we'll check the heater as you have suggested if it happens again.
Thanks for the suggestion! It's been 2 yrs since the first time had to defrost and now it's been making that noise again a while and we'll have to do it again soon😮💨 I'm so mad at LG!!! We paid a lot for this fridge and started having problem after only one year. We'll look into replacing the part. Thank you again🙂@@jimibmore
I have an Kenmore Elite (LG) bottom freezer that is not cold enough (even at lowest temperature) and not making ice either. Does it sound like the problem is with the heater? Thank you.
First thing to check would be to check the fans to make sure that they are running. I would also check the condenser coils to see if they are dirty as well.
Hi My Freezer works perfect but ice build up under need the lower freezer slide compartment .. What could cause ice to form on the bottom below the freezer slide compartments? I am only getting ice on the bottom so not sure what that means. If it was a defrost issue I would think that the ice would build inside the frozen tray compartment as it all shares the same open space compartment?.
Thank you so much for the information. I used your instruct for when ice was building up in the bottom of my Kenmore French door refrigerator. I did all that was instructed, but am still having ice build up at bottom. I notice that bottom of refrigerator section is also super cold and icing up my fresh vegetables in the crisper bins. I see in freezer where drip is coming from behind back panel in freezer just behind fan compartment, so I assume the coil is again freezing up. Before with last repair, drain tube was clear only hole from below evaporator coil was blocked with ice. The freezer is working, just water draining in bottom again. Do you think it is the defrost heater or evaporator coil that is the problem? You advise would be greatly appreciated.
Makes it look eady but the 800 lb gorillas at lg installed the phillips head screws so tight, I'm afraid I am going to strip them. I think this time around, I'll just clean out all the ice and see how long it goes.
That error code indicates a defrost issue. If you have replaced the defrost heater, it looks like the defrost thermostat is on that as well, so if those parts are good, you would need to replace the control board. The part number is EBR86093772, you can place the order through our website, or you can call us at 1-877-477-7278 to place the order over the phone.
Dont use a hair dryer or heat gun. Get a steam machine. Takes awhike if it is iced really bad. Last one took me 8 hours i think. ( removing groceries , fixing and putting back in)

Take the element out and take a resistance reading at the plug. If you see OL than replace it

@@Hipoporita The defrost fuse/thermistor is usually the problem that senses if the coil got hot enough in allotted time frame.

How do you check to see if the defrost heater is bad?
Use a multimeter in ohms resistance. If you have a resistance reading it is good. If it doesn't and it indicates OL...Meaning open...it is bad.
How do I know if the old one is defective.?
ohms resistance check with a multimeter. If you have resistance, the heater is good. If none and showing OL..Open...it's bad.
excellant vidio, I was able to do the same repair. thank you so much
You're welcome!
Excellent video, I'm ordering that heater
Can you force a defrost cycle on these?
Yes you can that's what hitting the test button a third time will do

Internal freezer ice maker leak could do that. Further diagnosing required

What's that burn mark in the back there?
Believe there is a fan there. Might have smoke checked when the unit iced up.
Heat gun damage or they had replaces a smoke checked motor.

How do you know the heater is bad? How many ohms should it be? Unless you are shotgunning the refrigerator proper troubleshooting methods should used.
You can test the defrost heater for resistance, you should have 34-42 Ohms.
thank you for sharing this
