177 countries are a lot of markets that can’t buy the game.
This is it, no one cares about what's happening in discord, this is what killed Helldivers. It speaks volumes the reason they let everyone use Japanese voices is because the game got banned in Japan. Chinese is still locked to only China, a place where the game is also banned.
People should stop confusing "wanting sexy characters in games" with "objectifying women (OR men)" because pixels ARE NOT people. Also, we still live in a world where sex sells. Otherwise, why are ALL the people in adverts on the handsome/beautiful/sexy side?
But hypocrisy is so easy, so this will continue.
What makes the situation even more cringe is if you look at something like Disney's Acolyte. Episode 4 or 5 had the main villain remove his mask, and forums and YT are full of females absolutely thirsting over that male character. I mean to ridiculous degrees.

Fantasy games are not supposed to be reflective of real life. People play these games to "experience" something that real life can never present.

Stellar Blade is a perfect example. The main character was modeled after a real life person. Somehow IGN didn't get the memo and went after the devs, claiming they had never seen a real life woman before. Their response was epic. One of the devs showed a picture of his drop dead gorgeous wife, biggest mic drop I've seen in a while. These woke journalists are just jealous of women with perfect curves, which themselves are sorely lacking. Men don't fancy fat ugly women with blue hair, what a shocker.

CyberPunk as a genre is about social comentary on classism, the divide between poor and rich, what corporation's would do if given free regin and of course technology, how it affects us and our society.
But that is hard and unconfirtable, it's much easier to pander to someone who doesn't cost corporations money.

- Free content added at a snail's pace while everything else is locked behind battle passes
- Battle passes contain mostly reskins anyway
- Battle pass requires grinding to unlock
- They added no free content keep you entertained while grinding
- Major orders bug out and don't reward you with currency
- Personal orders reward a pittance and are time-gated
- Every currency (except the paid one) is capped
- You log out because it's samey, repetitive and there is no point playing if you are capped anyway
- New battle pass releases, cycle continues (i.e you observe from afar)
At least there is no FOMO in the battle pass, at least until they nerf the TWO weapons in it lol

1. Lots of people are rushing Arrowhead to push out content every couple of weeks, and still expect it to be fully polished. I'm sorry but good games and updates are never made in a rush, that's just a fact. It's not Arrowheads problem if people have a 1 plank-time attention-span, and can't enjoy the game for what it is without constant humongous updates.
2. I know this is a wierd and specific thing to pick at, but please don't call it a battle pass, because its then associated with fortnites bs. And while some things are reskins, I would argue that there are lots of unique weapons.
3. I unlocked almost every warbond by playing, and it never felt like grinding at all, I was just having fun while unlocking things at the same time. You cant blame your lazyness and mindset of "bUt i WAnT EveRYtHing FoR FReE ThIs SEcOnd" on Arrowhead.
4. Why do you need content to keep you entertained while earning content? Isn't working towards a reward the entertainment? This isn't a real issue, rather it's something you are picking at to make the game look worse than it is.
5. I have only encountered the major order bug once.
6. Personal orders are easy enough to be completed within the given time, and also easy enough for the 15 medal reward to be fair. This is not an issue with the game, rather its your skill issue.
7. So what if its capped? Just spend it once you reach the limit. Its that simple lol, and rly not an issue. You are just picking at such specific and unnecessary things, to probably just shit on the game for no reason.
8. It's technically repetitive, but not really. There are many planets, and many mission types. Each map is randomly generated, including enemy outposts. You meet new players every time, lots of different cinematic moments that happen organically theough the players just playing and interacting, lots of different plots for major orders, and why they are important. Enemies adapt to our attacks. They react and strike back at Super Earth, in unexpected ways, creating an unscripted story that happens organically. All this creates new experiences with the same ingredients. (And you forget that because of how they are built, its impossible for any live-service game to not be repetitive, so Arrowhead actually did quite a good job, when it comes to minimising repetition)
9. Again it's not Arrowheads problem if people can't just have fun, and enjoy the game for what it is.
10. What else are you going to expect people to do with new content, other than use it? Lol. Especially in a live service game, there will be a cycle of new content dropping and being used. It's not some silly mistake on Arrowheads side, it's just how things work.
11. The CEO said the team went a little overboard with the nerfing, and that they are always lerning from our feedback, so hopefully they stop nerfing.

Sure, the CMs did cause some players to leak, but a lot of players aren't even on discord nor care for it whatsoever. And let's face it, if we dropped a game because CMs on discord are SJWs we wouldn't play anything at all. 99% of the Western CMs I've seen are diversity hires infested with leftie ideology.
Other major factors to be considered, however:
1. Dedicated players already "finished" the game. Unlocked all upgrades and warbonds, saw everything the game has to offer. Live service or not, there's no point playing the game if there's nothing new in it. I'm still playing casually an hour a day or less (mainly when I just want to shoot something after watching the gaming news) and even I'm close to "completion". I only lack a few upgrades I don't care about anyway as they're for the stratagems and weapons I never use.
2. Elden Ring's DLC has released. It's played by every major streamer and a lot of "locust" gamers (as in, all those that swarm to the most popular thing for a couple months before moving on to another "big one"). In typical gaming life-cycle HD2 is already a retiree and old news.
I don't defend the HD2 CMs, but most of what happened to the game's playerbase was a simple, natural occurence that would've happened regardless of their weirdo ideas.
Personally, I'll play until they start changing the game itself. I don't care about discord CM drama as long as it doesn't affect my gameplay as, again, I'd have to drop the majority of the games I enjoy were it the case. But I'm ready to pull the plug upon the first sigthing of a rainbow cape or any other BS like that.

But the Community managers have waged a war on the community and been banning people based on a secret set of rules that players were not even aware of. A rule set that seems to fly the middle finger to the very community the marketing for the game tries pitch to
Arrowhead choosing to use Discord to push out notes is foolish enough. The Discord moderators they employ (paid or no) are insane. Permabans for disliking furry art is silly.
The paid CMs are marginally better, only directly insulting players who dare question Arrowhead.

Yep. I can handle glitches, in completes if the devs are trying to fix it. But add in really dump decisions post launch and lag time fixing things. Mean the spawn issues should have been reverted that week not a month later when half the player base leaves. Final straw is the cm and moderators, I'm tired of being gaslit.
I don't understand how this is possible or tolerated by the publisher. It's exactly like Hollywood attacking the fans. "WTF" doesn't even cover it. Why would you hire *and keep* someone who destroys you customer base?
I say the CMs are only half the blame. The other half is whoever is behind the balancing. Screw them for nerfing everything into the soil. I guarantee you, if they revert every weapon to pre-nerf state, the game would be fun again. Especially because they still can't fix the fucking spawn rates.
This is what happens when Helldivers 2 developers go Woke, they lose 90 percent of players.

I would argue that most players don't care about the discord server and never even logged on it. The game crashed mostly because they nerf everything into the ground 2 weeks after releasing it, there is no fun to be had in game since you are so underpowered. Don't get me wrong i'm against woke identity politics in game but so far it did not reach the game, yet.
I agree that the woke thing caused some of the drop but the declining player base has almost nothing to do with woke. It’s because of the developers nerfing everything in the game for months and not listening to their fans
I doubt the 90% player base drop has anything to do with them being woke. It's probably just the natural life cycle of the game. But it's definitely not going to help them retain the people who have stayed.

No one else pulled the trigger; the finger prints are their own. The manifesto was in their own handwriting and it was just a suicide note ranting about non-liberals that they wouldn't tolerate in their own community; which turns out, was most of their playerbase(the ones that they didn't outright ban from playing in the 177 countries that had their gaming priviledge revoked by Sony).
Helldivers 2 is truly a masterclass in how to throw away success. Between Sony's chronic stupidity with PSN, Arrowhead's left wing extremism, and their commitment to nerfing or breaking anything that turns out to be fun, it's hard to think of a way they could have shot themselves in the foot harder if they actively _tried_
Helldivers 2 v1.0 was fantastic. It was incredibly fun and pointedly didn't saddle itself with any of the bullshit endemic in the modern gaming industry... then they got to work ruining it.
they absolutely snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. they could not have fucked up any harder than they did even if they actively tried. it's so sad too considering how much fun HD2 could have potentially been in the long run as a popcorn game to zone out on with friends.

No politics have seeped into the game YET. Also there was a patch full of buffs. Not saying it’s perfect, but there needs to be some pragmatism here.
I think part of the problem is, one of the patches a couple months ago, broke the game for AMD processors. Me and a buddy used to play every couple days, then that patch made it so his game just boots and crashes.

Just a comment on the California thing, I'm a Canadian truck driver, and I used to regularly go to California 2017-2021. I can honestly say, I will never step foot in that state ever again, along with most places in the US. You really don't see the true horrors, until you go into the industrial and port area's. Baltimore, Philly and Portland were also truly shocking.

That last part about Cyberpunk 2077 devs about California was 💀. That's how bad some places in California have gotten smh.
I had just checked steam DB the other day to see how much the player count had dropped since I started playing and got exactly that if not even worse. When I started at the end of March it was between 300 and 400K and I just went with 300 just to be safe and then at that time the current count was 30K so I got 90% as well. I was playing it daily until about a month ago and now I have no real urge to go back.If they add the new enemies I might but otherwise I dont care,its so buggy and fucked up im just over it and all this stuff I hear about the discord doesnt help either. If they ever add that stuff itll be hilarious to see the drama it creates every team kill will turn into an accused hate crime

I laughed out loud when they showed GTA6 with a female protagonist, it felt like a kid with a gun being a wanna be gangster instead of actually being one. Call me sexist or whatever but some roles fit male characters much better.
Well apart from the "woke" stuff (I swear the definition of WOKE changes every hour, I wish I was kidding) we were bound to have another Video Game Market Crash similar to the one in 1983.
I also feel like "go woke, go broke" is just dumb. They aren't getting "*your*" money. They'll get it elsewhere. They do not care about who they pander to anyways. If the intent is to make money, it's clear as day. They'll do anything.

I was actually quite shocked that HD2 discord polls voted that their latest patch was a success. They literally only buffed a couple weapons and strategems. Most everything was a "re-balance" that generally sucked. They made stealth patches to make the game harder. They didn't really change the META at all. It's just boring and un-fun.
They still haven't reverted nerfs to people's favorite weapons like the Quasar Cannon, Arc Thrower, Eruptor, or Rail Gun.
Like this video pointed out, I grinded hard to get to level 25 to unlock the Rail Gun, but they nerfed it before I got it. This was supposed to be their top-tier support weapon but now it's literally one of the worst.
Then endless stagger, ragdoll from Bots (while at the same time nerfing the players' ability to stagger bots) makes them unfun. Hunters being invincible or one-shotting you is unfun. Outrageous spawns/patrols, even on level 4, is unfun. Buying/investing in premium warbonds full of trash, is unfun.
Sadly, now I'm just hoping that other developers take the original HD2 formula and make a good game out of it.

I get that by now saying you were born post-1990 sounds a long time ago, but there are still plenty of gamers that are pre-1990 and still working games into our lives. As someone that's from California and would call it home: it's bad. I visited family back in 2016, I think it was, and I know it has only deteriorated from then. It's generally too expensive to pull yourself out of poverty. Back at the time, my family told me that, if I wasn't making $21/hr, I wouldn't make it out there. My aunt makes well over six figures, but has over a 1.5 hour commute one way to her job due to traffic, and has to leave extremely early to get there on time. (Perhaps she's swapped to working from home, but I haven't checked in on that.)
It's still a beautiful place in the more remote areas, but it's bleak as a place to live in most of them. At one point with my cousin, we were in Oakland to hit a drive-thru for lunch passing through, and he was like, "You don't want to get out of the car in Oakland." There were no public restrooms; everything was customer only due to the homeless trying to camp out in them.
I can't even imagine what it's like today, especially after hearing how bad it was when they were filming the Barbie movie.

That is actually crazy to hear that the developers would want to make their future Cyberpunk game darker after seeing California that is wild .
Holy heck, the drop is just huge for Helldiver 2, but are we really surprised with how much the moderators and community managers try so hard to turn people away from it? No, not really and they will be losing more with their abuse of power.

It's not that, it's that we Men like looking at them. And they hate that!
I think it stems from the notion that the game would bias people's expectations of women IRL (its not representative).
But the counter arguments would be, inter alia: (a) it's all fiction, nobody jumps, moves, shoots guns IRL like in a video game; (b) some women IRL do look like video game characters (see Stellar Blade character model); and (c) if a person cannot distinguish between video game fiction and reality then they have other issues they need to contend with.
Because it is overwhelmingly skewes towards female characters, prioritizing their looks over actually making them an interesting character, alienating the part of the audience that doesn't see women as breathing sex dolls.
- Hard difficulties are suppose to be hard, but the sheer amount of rocket spam at higher difficulties makes bugs more popular.
- They can't seem to fix bugs in a timely manner, or previously fixed bugs return. (ie, Superior Packing Methodology being busted on release, then being fixed for a month before its currently broken again, managing to fall under the map, etc)
- No new stratagems or ship upgrades for a long time apart from the lame battle passes.
- Weapons having low ammo pools and making them effectively useless. (The sickle is still the most popular primary in the games I've played)
- Literally like 90% of my friends refunded this game and never picked it back up again.

That wasn't the devs. It was the moderators of the discord server. Also the people were only banned from the discord, not the game.

For me personally, and for 6 of my friends with whom I played Helldivers 2 since release, the main reasons we stopped playing were:
- Hidden changes in patches that make the game more difficult to play, and which the developers are deliberately keeping silent about. (Hunters that began to automatically aim at your head, and from the last patch even be magnetized while jumping, sometimes going THROUGH WALLS due to this magnetization , adding charge to Broods, which led to them constantly charging at you, increasing the accuracy of ALL robots by 2 times, the list goes on.
I don't mind the difficulty, however - the lack of transparency in balance changes, and the developers trying to hide it from the majority of players is a disgusting and flawed practice.
- At the same time, good weapons are nerfed to shit, and bad ones are buffed only a little, and as a result - from the entire constantly replenished arsenal of weapons, on high difficulty everyone plays only with the same 2 guns. What a fucking joke.
- Technical problems that have not been fixed for months since the release (for example, the Spear rocket launcher, which began to work stably only a week ago)
- Mediocre optimization that only gets worse with each patch, and lack of DLSS/FSR. I play Full HD with a Ryzen 9 5900X and RTX 3080ti, and regardless of the game settings, I can now only get 40 frames during battle on difficulty 9. This is unacceptable.

This is a completely valid reason for not playing as of late. Me personally, I have a monster rig so I've never encountered massive issues. I'm tried of people complaining about the discord. From what I've seen and gathered the discord doesn't even represent a fraction of the real community, its the goddamn discord. If you know anything about discord its full of degenerates and generally estranged individuals, no surprise its a shitshow. But you can't blame the discord for making the game bad.

For difficulty, it's not as much about it being too "hard" but more about not having answers. Games difficulty can be reduced to questions and answers, and in the highest difficulty there are situations in which you simply have no answers. It's not that it's too hard, it's that there is no option to win.
First Descendant is releasing at such a perfect time, everyone is probably just moving on from HD2 to FD after going woke.
FD will be full of crazy monetization. They already wanted to make lootboxes for colours.
Im one of those who are jumping the ship. HD2 has become too stale and i just cant bring myself to play it. If major new content drops, I might come back to check it out but until then im playing other games.

@@Martin-lm8xp And they heard the player's feedback on that. They are doing away with it and the annoying battlepass coins they had from tech beta. The monetization ultimately looks to be inline with Warframe's. Which for a South Korean company, let alone Nexon is very welcoming to see.

I was done with helldivers after the PSN fiasco, but what they are doing in their discord sealed the deal. The dev of HD lied about the PSN requirement and not being woke.
The PSN thing wasn't really a lie, they just disabled it because the servers were not working while it was enabled. And because of the hype, people didn't read the fine print of what actually happened (still sonys fuckup for selling it in countries they dont support anyway). Also most discord mods are woke clowns who only exist on the discord and not with the developers intentions or on the game. That's more of a symptom of discords nature than the game if anything my guy.

I don't think the decline of Helldivers' player population has as much to do with wokeness or even Sony as after about 2 months the average player felt like we got what we wanted out of the game and simply moved on. You shoot the bugs, you shoot the robots, you unlock the guns, you shoot the bugs, you shoot the robots, then you say, "that was fun" and play something else. There's no competitive loop like DotA or League, there's no pixel questing like Diablo or Path of Exile, you're just done when you're done... and most people are done.
Pretty much this, the gameplay loop was fun but there's not enough in the background to keep players engaged after enough hours in the game. Major orders were great but you're still doing the same activities, unless a special mission that is constantly repeated.
Sorry, but I struggle to understand how all the other factors such as terrible community managers, sony being greedy and intentionally ruining future potential sales, a bad balancing team, a game that has progressively gotten worse with each and every patch between lack of bug fixes, lack of optimization and lack of fun gameplay changes/innovations, etc.. I struggle to understand how ALL OF THOSE THINGS are not on your list.

I'm gonna leave my two cents on helldivers for those interested. As a player I don't think that the biggest problem for helldivers are some out of touch disc mods, casual players don't care about that sort of thing. But like endymion said bigger part of the problem, I think is the nerf and the difficulties, BECAUSE the two go hand in hand. Let me explain. I get their logic behind nerfing strats, they want every weapon to be usable equally, every build to be viable. SO why not buff it? That's the second thing, Endymion described higher difficulties as end came content. I think that's a big missunderstanding, bacause the HELLDIVE difficulty is more like a challenge mode. It's supposed to be hard. The game is eve designed so you can win even if you don't extract, even if you don't "make it". That's what it's probably supposed to be, we aren't supposed to make it. It's like souls games, it's supposed to be difficult, even with cooperating with a good team we rarely succeed. So that's why they aren't buffing guns, it would make the HELLDIVE too easy, and then they would have to make harder mode, and then harder. Their logic in this is, I think, sound. But there are different problems with balancing.
WHAT THE GAME DOES NEED and what I think is the cause of the drop is that there wasn't any large content added recently, as said in the video. They need to add something big, and soon.
Agreed, and the majority of the player base acting like whiny children anytime ever a small nerf, or bug fix, to weapons isn’t making balance any easier. Also, while each of the difficulties feel harder from the one previous to them, they end up having a less increasing difficulty each time, if that makes any sense. If they want Helldive to be basically impossible just make it harder when they buff.
This is purely anecdotal but I opened the game once after the first nerf that ruined the rail when I seen the devs release a somewhat patronizing comment saying something along the lines of hell divers was never supposed to be a power fantasy but a "complex strategy game" like they think load outs are a game of chess or some shi Iwas done never looked back and everything I've heard sense leaves me feeling proud to have dropped that game the second it went from great to trash. It does suck I really really loved hell divers starship troopers is one of my all time favorite movies it was so much fun but even early on I was saying we needed more meaningful primary weapons more ammo more options the game didn't need nerfs on release it needed buffs to everything. Night vision, thermals and long range tactics meaning if I take down a singular enemy with one shot (something that actually can't be done anymore) then no agro let me play differently not take away the only toys that actually worked that game was cooked on that first nerf patch it's never coming back it's dead
