Listen how quietly he speaks yet u hear perfectly. I believe this man knows his business.
12/23/22 Nice ! Just the right speed with some repeated points for a slow learner like me. Now. . . I’m dealing with two ch recv / intger amps. Always wanted to experiment with adding an external , but this preout, preamp out , line out, line level stuff has only partially sunk in, but your vid did show actual hookups so thank. Nice work.
Happy to help!😁
One thing I would like to add: be sure you use high quality shielded RCA cables. If you don't, they can pick up radio frequency interference and you will have a hum coming from the speakers. This isn't theoretical - It happened to me. How I figured it out was I unplugged the cables from the receiver and left them plugged into the amp. I turned on the amp and had the hum. I then unplugged the cables from the amp, turned it back on and no hum. I ordered shielded cables from Monoprice and that fixed it.
Just recently picked up a Marantz SR7015 and was looking up extra amps online to power 2 rear Atmos speakers. But reading the comments and seeing your video helped me see that my 5.2.4 setup would more than be enough with just the Marantz receiver itself. Big help. I appreciate it.
Happy to help!
Great video!! You explained it perfectly, spoke clear and directly to the point. Can’t thank you enough!
Thank you for your kind words and watching the video!
You should show people how to put Banana Plugs on the end of their speaker wires. And the RCA Interconnects you demoed are un-shielded. You want coaxial RCA wires for behind your gear because it is electrically very noisy back there. Coax cables also electrically tie the 0.00 volt signal ground from the AV Receiver to the Amp. If you used non coaxial cables - this might be why you got the 60 hz humm.
Nice job! Clear concise and right to the point!!
Very helpful 👍🏻
Thanks for watching
Just what I needed. Thanks!
Thank you for explaining everything so clearly much appreciated.
🙏🏾
Thank you so much. This was very helpful.
You're very welcome!
Very nice video. Clear and to the point!
Glad you enjoyed it!
awesome video. no questions ! thanks alot and greats from germany
Hi Germany!!! 🇩🇪 Thanks for watching and commenting! Don’t forget to like, subscribe, and share the videos. 😁😁
Please help i have spent quite a bit and i dont understand. I have a denon X1700h that is 8ohms and i have 2 6ohms speakers. My 1 year old removed a binding post from 1 speaker so i have only been using 1 speaker. Today i got flashing red light and i have removed all wires and its been off for a few hours but still got red flashing light. It is still under guarantee so i can return but would you know why this could happen and if i can get an amp for this reciever ? Because i want to get 4ohm speakers
Great video, as usual. Helpful, easy to understand information. I'm going to be putting this information into use very soon. So this is perfect! 👍🏾🔥🙏🏽
Thanks!
Thanks! This was super helpful!
Happy to help!
Very good work
hi there , how would you connect an eq to the preouts? thank you
Great video , thank you!
Thanks for watching
Great video on AVRs with pre-outs. What if you don't have any pre-outs besides the subwoofers. How can the external amplifier be connected?
I don’t think there is a way unfortunately.
No way)) If you have zone 2 pre outs, you have a chance to connect amp. Denon really works with that. Don’t know about others.
Ok. That was a great explanation. But why do I need all this effort? Only if I want more power? So, not absolutely necessary for a 20 square meter room, or am I getting this wrong? I would rather know how I can connect 2 additional floorstanding speakers for stereo only (!) in addition to my 5.1 set-up. Full power stereo only. All power from the AVR. Is that possible? If so, how?
If you use an amp for your speakers, do you do the whole setup or just the individual ones you feel like need amplifying? I have Electrostatic towers for instance but MP10 heights and FX2 rears, would those need amplification too? Running on a Marantz Cinema 50
Verry informative video 🙏🏻🙏🏻
I have Pioneer CR 333 equalizer, I want to connect to Sony receiver STKR_1500. My problem is I dont know what to select between Multimedia or MD/Tape.
Please assist me 🙏🏻🙏🏻 it been a while this equalizer is not connected on my receiver.
Thanks in advance.
I have a Pioneer av receiver, Pioneer HTP-074 - VSX-325 it doesn’t have pre-out. Do you have a solution how to connect another receiver so they can work together,
Wish we still could get emotiva in Australia pretty sure they stopped bothering to partner with outlets here 😭
I understand why different things don’t make it to all countries but it still stinks that we can’t get good products.
I want to purchase an BasX A3...my question is will my Onkyo RZ50's preouts have enough power to drive the A3, and how do you determine the preout wattage...or how much preout wattage is needed to drive power amplifers.
Great to see you putting working into this type of content. would love to chat ideas about future content. I am a fellow enthusiast as well for home theater and more recently getting into stereo.
Thank you 🙏🏾! Email me we can discuss, the address is in the video description. 😁
Hello, excellent video, I have a Yamaha RX-A2060, can I connect an amplifier to it? to go from 5.1.4 to 7.1.4?
I am trying to buy a projector, receiver, and amp to hook it up in a hall with a wall mounted HDMI plugin. Why is this more confusing than it looks lol.
Thank you
You're welcome
1 dumb questions, i just buy rx-a870 which use pre out sub, my old amp china one 2.1ch input 3.5mm jack and use passive sub, i dont have money to buy another sub so any idea how to connect rca-3.5mm directly to make do untill afford to better preamp and active sub. Thx
External amplifier for what? More powerful or more channel?
Does the amplifier turn on and off on it’s own or do we need to manually turn it on and off when turning on the receiver? Thanks
If a trigger cable is connected between the processor and the amp, then the processor will power the amplifier on and off.
I do not. I'm trying to coble
A pa sys together for my e drums. Not going well.
Do you have to use the ir cable or I can use without thanks.
Did the same thing using my vintage Marantz with an Emotiva A100 I purchased used. Do you think those cheap RCA cables are good enough?
They’re ok, you could spend a little more and get better quality. I wouldn’t spend more than say $60 because above that point you’re in the diminishing returns range
Hello, nice video. I'm interested if I connect my Denon X3800H to the L and R front channel via amp emotiva basx a2 and the rest of the surround will go directly from the Denon receiver so that I can have 11.1, so how does the volume work? will everything go only through the Denon or do I have to increase the volume on both the Denon and the Emotiva amplifier? Because it would be inconvenient to amplify every single one. Thank you for answer
The Denon will control the volume.
@@HomeTheaterHobbyistThank you 😇😍
hi i have an arcam avr200. and i have a B&W speakers. how do i get a good sound for this one. it seems that its not loud enough when i connected the speakers in the front channels.
I haven’t tried arcam but I assume one can go into the audio menu and adjust the volume/level of each speaker individually. I would search around the audio menu for that and reduce the volume on your other speakers or increase the volume on the center channel. Hopefully this helps!
Would connecting an AVR to an external amp and turning on ''bypass''/''passthrought'' mode would work as good as seperates?
I don't think so but I'm not totally familiar with that mode.
Unfortunately my Denon AVR doesn't have any preouts (lol I got the AVR before this became a hobby), would it be a stupid idea to get an amplifier for my LCR speakers and connecting the amplifier to AVR by an RCA cable to speaker wire and connect the speaker wire side of the cable into the speaker terminal? Lol I'm just trying to think of alternatives so I don't need to buy a whole AVR. I'd love to hear your thoughts/experiences!
I don’t think this will work because once connected to the AVR stereo outputs you’ll have to select that input and you’ll only get stereo sound not multi channel.
Sorry but I think you will need to purchase an AVR with pre-out connections. Don’t forget to check the used market, you can probably get something with pre-outs for a few hundred dollars. Enjoy!😊
@@HomeTheaterHobbyist Lol that's what I figured. Damn it! I really appreciate it man!
@@HomeTheaterHobbyist I found a solution! If anybody reading this is has the same issue, look up "Russound ADP-1.2 Speaker Level to Line Level Adapter". It's a $40 adapter
Hi 👋🏼 I’m waiting for the
Emotiva BasX A3 to go back in-stock.
My question is are these amps
Just plug and play to my Yamaha RX-A1030 7.3.2 Svs Ultra center and Prime Towers.
Thanks
I purchase the SVS Prime tower because of your review on them.
Awesome! Yes, I think it will just plug and play with the A1030 as long as it has pre-amp outputs.
Thanks for watching the prime tower review, what do you think?
What should be the volume level in Amplifier so that it maches with the remaining 9 channels from the AVR in a home theatre setup?
If your amp has a separate volume control, the best way to level match the speakers is using the room correction software built into your AVR. If that doesn't work for some reason then it's time to go old school. 😁 Get an SPL meter, set it to "C" weighted and "Slow" then place it at your main listening position. Play some speaker pink noise (can be found on various streaming services) and set the volume to match your AVR using the SPL level shown on the meter.
@@HomeTheaterHobbyist thanks so much!
Good introduction, thanks. Would the avr continue to control levels even though it power is from the amp.
Yes. You will still use the avr for volume control. Typically this type of amp would amps does not have volume control.
How about power consumption is it same for avr??
I’m completely lost on how to connect my 2 extra speakers to my amplifier to make my set-up a 11.2 channel at the moment I have a 9.2 receiver but can also be converted to a 11.2 channel … check everywhere on UA-cam no clear Indication on such a video
rca cable to your amp. do your room correcting, and you're done
Thanks for this video. How can the amp that's connected to the primary receiver be triggered by this receiver to turn on? I know some amplifiers have a "trigger in" jack, but mine doesn't. Is there any way? Thanks.
I can’t think of a way to trigger it without the jack, sorry 😞
I read online that you can use an "energy saving" power bar. The first plug's circuit triggers others. I ordered one and will try it. I read it doesn't always work and depends on the energy draw of whatever is plugged in. Some of these power bars have sensitivity adjustment knobs.
If your AV receiver has higher wattage each channel, would it be make sense to keep in your original AV receiver out than using pre amp?
Probably
Thanks
Welcome
Hi There,
I would need tour help to set up my Onkyo TX NR 6100 brand new l got it as a gift 4 years ago and never got to use it.
I would need your help to set it up with my Bose Acoustimass 3 Series IV Speakers that have both the input that comes from the amp and the output that goes to the cube speakers at the back of the sub.
I have two sets of the Bose Acoustimass 3 Series IV Speakers and would like to use the front and rear speaker output of the TX NR 6100 like an integrated amp for playing music as well as watching my cinema.
Thank you for your help.
Michael
Hiya, I have a AVC-X3800H 9.4 channel Amplifier and a Cambridge CXA61 Integrated Stereo Amplifier. I would like to hook up the CXA61 to the Denon for an improved front stage for music .
I understand that I need to connect the Pre-Outs for the front speakers from the Denon to unbalanced RCA inputs of the Cambridge CXA61 , what am not clear is on how to setup the speaker calibration so that the Denon has full control of the volume control knob and I don't need to play around with the volume of the CXA61?
If you could guide on specific steps that need to be taken would be great.
Hi! I understand your question but I’m not sure how/ if that can be done. I know if you had other Cambridge gear you could use just one Cambridge remote but I don’t know since you have 2 different brands. Sorry 😞
@@HomeTheaterHobbyist No problem , I appreciate you coming back to me so promptly.
I tried the below over the weekend post reading an article on the web.
-On the relative scale of the AVR I set the volume level to 0dB.
-I ran the test tone for the fronts on the AVR to confirm the levels were at 75db on the spl meter.
-Then plugged in the front speakers to the CXA61 and re ran the test tones for them.
-I kept raising the volume knob on the CXA61 during the above step time until the fronts read 75db on the spl meter and finally marked the turn on the knob so I can set it back at the marked level in case it gets moved accidentally.
This way I now don't need the remote of the CXA61 anymore.
Ahhhhhh that’s a good solution! Thanks for sharing that’s helpful! 🙏🏾😁
If my reciever (onkyo tx rz800) doesn't deliver enough power to my speakers, is a external amplifier connected to pre-out a easy solution to get more amp to my speakers?
Yes, an external amp works well.
Yes that's what the videos about 😂
I have a question.. is there a way an old yamaha mx-1 amplifier can be upgraded to include inputs necessary to make it suitable for use as external amplifier.. please respond.. thanks.. tony tiongson
Sorry but I don’t think so. If you or someone you know is good with a soldering iron and circuit boards then maybe. But that might also be very tough because you’d have to interface (potentially program) the new board with the amps. I’m not an electrical engineer so I could be wrong.
The MX-1 is a stereo amp; You're limited to 2 discreet channels of input and output. You CAN use it to boost a weaker receiver for stereo music only but no surround sound.
Hobbyist, this one is for you I have a 6.2.4 speaker setup, with one speaker at the back of my room, will this give me the same performance as 7.2.4?
Hi! The amp sends the appropriate power to the speaker from the sound processor input, it doesn't change the processing. So this will not change a 6.2.4 sound image to 7.2.4. To make that change you need to add an additional speaker at the rear and adjust the speaker setup options in your sound processor/avr to let it know you have an additional speaker.
Hello, your AV receiver is only nine channels but yet I am counting 11 speaker outputs and none of them indicate zone 2 so to me that means your a/ receiver has at least 11 channel speaker output .could you please explain what you mean by your AV receiver only having 9 channels output for speakers .
Hi! It has 9 channels of amplification but 11 channels of processing. So I can run up to 9 speakers with it but to access the additional 2 speakers I need to add an external amplifier. Hopefully this helps.
I’m confused as the receiver has an internal amp. Why do you connect another amp to it??
If you want to use the main left and right speakers for a stereo as well as the surround system instead of having separate left and right speakers.
Hi, I'm looking to add a BasX 6ch amp to run my 6 height ch's from my denon x8500HA but I'm already running a BasX 3ch amp for my front channels. I don't know how to pre out on my denon x8500HA with all speakers running on separate amplifiers.
The is a little hard to explain via text but here it goes................Basically you need to connect the pre-amp cables to the fronts 3 channels then the other 6 to your heights and make sure you have the correct speakers connected to the amplifiers. Next go into the X8500h audio menu and choose the appropriate amp configuration (7.1.6 for example), then play test tones to see if you're getting sound from each speaker. If not you may have to adjust the amplifier configuration. Unfortunately I don't have an 8500 here to tell you the exactly steps. Hopefully this helps.
@@HomeTheaterHobbyist He didn't say it, but thank you for taking the time to give the explanation. Best regards!.
You’re welcome! Happy to help!
@@HomeTheaterHobbyist I didn't have that problem, I just like to thanks when someone takes the time to respond. But I have seen many of your videos very good, greetings!
Wow. That Audiophile grade white and red RCA cable. 😂😂
Music will be fuller, and more 3 dimensional, with added air on the top end.
😂😂😂😂
No fancy cable needed? Would the signal be any better with a “better” albeit more expensive cable?
A decent quality cable from a reputable manufacturer should be fine. You don’t have to spend hundreds of dollars on an rca cable. Tens of dollars should be fine. 🙂
Will you hear a difference with hundreds of dollars worth of cables? Maybe???? but honestly if you’re even considering high prices rca cables you really need to look at a surround processor that has balanced (XLR) outputs to the amp. That will yield a purer audio signal compared to unbalanced (rca) outputs.
Hopefully this helps. 😁
@P T what a load of bull****
A quality RCA shielded cable will help limit the background electricity noise! So if one wishes to extremely quiet room, I advise to go with quality shielded cable.
Can we use 2 AVR's to same speakers using split speaker wires and power on the one which i want to use at a time, is it safe? Since the both are different brands and has a different sound signature.
I think this can be done but honestly the potential for both to be on at the same time would steer me away from doing it.
Have you thought about using banana plugs and quickly switching cables when necessary? A little bit more of a hassle but probably a little safer. 🤔
@@HomeTheaterHobbyist i wish i could do that by using banana plugs but i don't have an dedicated av rack nor I've a space, all I've is a big unit stand in which I've my pc , av receiver, stabilizer, multi power point & my centre speaker placed on top, it's very heavy and also placed very close to the wall so i can't move to reach its back, also it has an closed back with a small hole to let the cables in, hence all I've is just this one plan and not sure if it's really safe, otherwise i would power on only the avr that want to use not both at a same time.
Ok I understand. Technically it should work. Hopefully it works out for you. 😁
@@HomeTheaterHobbyist i should try then, now the other concern is i should also get an HDMI splitter too to connect to my nvidia shield tv for both the avr's :(
Thank you for the video. How can I send you a pm?
Sure, you can find my email in the video description.
he connect 2 pre-out rca (front L/R) but only connect one (front L) speaker to external amp not good vvideo
Seems pointless cause unless you running cerwin Vega your receiver should already have enough power, no ?
No because av reciever manufacturers lie about the actual power. And most av only have two channels driven. Using an external frees up power on your av so that all channels have enough power too handle the peaks. At least that’s how I understand it.
You have plugged the red RCA from AVR to the CH7 of your Emotiva 7CH amplifier. However, no speaker is connected to that particular channel. There has to be another speaker connected there. Is that correct? You need 1 RCA for 1 Speaker. Thanks.
That was just for demonstration. You’re correct 1 rca per speaker connection.
For this is video he needs different RCA cable. ! 2 RCA to 1 RCA. I believe he need to do the video over again!
How to i connect 3 Receivers together . currently i have a Sony Muteki HT DDW8500 7.4 Channel . This have 1 AV Receiver and two power Amplifies for the 4 Subwoofers. but i want to add 4 more Subwoofers . also need to connect one more same receiver together . im trying to connect 2 HTDDW7500 at same time but when i play the song 1 receiver get delayed sound . not music playing same time . also im trying to change the Playback speed from seccond receiver but cannot do that. i mean the man problems the seccond receiver getting delayed sounds than the first receiver . but both is same company and same brand and same Model too. do you have good solution for that? Both Receiver Model is one is HTDDW8500 And Seccond one HTDDW7500 But both is same .
One question. I have the Onkyo RZ50 and an external amp. When I try to activate my external amp in the setup, I am unable to find out where to do it. Would anybody know if I need to activate it? The speakers work but I still have to crank up the volume to 65-70 just to be loud. When at low volumes, I can barely hear the sound until 20 to 30. It's driving me crazy.
Very clear and concise, appreciate the tutorial........the Emotiva video didn't make sense to me as his RCA cable was only one connection on each end
Of all the videos available yours is most clear and helpful. Thank you.
You are welcome! Thanks for watching!!
I have a 2 channel amp just powering left front and right front towers , my question is can I still add another amp to continue like another 5 channel amp making it 7 channel total of amplification ?? Or should i keep using my marantz 6014
I just tried connecting the Sherbourn 5/1500 to my Yamaha RX-V860 for the first time after watching your video 3 times and was very careful to make sure everything was connected correctly.
I never got any sound but the worst part is that my Yamaha will no longer turn on.
😔 😢
I tried disconnection everything. I left the Yamaha off a couple of hours and when I tried it again it still won't turn on.
Now I'm worried I will have to take it for repair.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated if you have any.
Thanks for your time!
I'm really sorry to hear this. I know this is a dumb question but did you confirm the Yamaha worked before you connected everything? I'm curious if you got a bad unit?. Typically even if the speakers are not connected to the correct terminals it won't totally shutdown the unit so I wonder if something else is going on.
I can't afford most of this stuff but I still love your videos! So I'll keep watching, liking, and commenting.
Thanks so much for watching and commenting, I really appreciate it. 😁
+1
Thank you. Emotiva should post your video on their website! What I want to see is a comparison between the BASX series and the X series. The X is supposed to be higher end, but I'm betting that there's no perceptible difference in sound. So what's the difference?
They have such a video, BTW.

Clear and concise. Thank you for this brother. Godbless
I wanna upgrade my system eventually right now I run a 2.1 but I wanna do a 5.1 eventually can I use my nad c 389 integrated amp as just a power amp for let's say a Marantz cinema 60 or 70s?
Please help how to connect Marantz 7015 receiver to XPA-11 Gen3 11 Channel emotive. Show which wires go where, I just don’t understand this ((((I would be very grateful !!!!!!)))))))
Thank you so much for posting this. MASSIVE help!
Thanks for watching!
I have an arcam sa10 and the only input that powers my speakers is the phono input which I read you shouldn’t use with a line level. The other inputs don’t work with my receiver. Should I be using digital input instead? Thanks!
Thank you for making this video. New subscriber here.
Quick question please, i have a Denon AVC X6500H which says it each channel rated at 205watts x 11 channels.
Does it mean that I don’t need to buy a pre amp to really get that 205watts?
Because i was told that it is pnly true for 2 channels but not all 11 channels.
If i use 11 channels, those power will decrease per channel.
I hope you can help me about this. Thank you again.
I am thinking of doing this using my existing AVR as an amplifier for the 2 channels that my new AVR processes but no speaker out left. But I wonder what we are supposed to do about volume levels- do I need to keep changing volume on both amps?
Dear Cody. Please instruct me how to connect Sunfire Theater Processor III to my Denon AVR - 5700. Thank you.
Sir, how to connect a subwoofer to a Marantz 1510 avr
Great video, simply explanatory🙏 Pls, can I follow this process to add external EQ-Audio Control Realto to my TX RZ810 AVR?
I think it will work, if the eq is in between the processor and amp.
What about the Subwoofer?
How do you connect the Subwoofer to an amplifier instead of the AV Receiver?
Typically subwoofers have their own dedicated built in amplifier so no need to connect to an amp
Thanks for this. How do you connect the subwoofer, to the pre amp or power amp? and which input?
the subwoofer already has an amp built in, just connect 1 rca cable from the pre out on your receiver that says "sub/subwoofer" and connect that into the back of your subwoofer to the "LFE" port
Would you still use the speaker output terminals on the AVR as well?
No
Hu I had a Denon 4700 it's required for power amplifier, I'm using klipsch speakers, please suggest
I have a monoprice amp that I like but Emotiva makes good stuff. Also NAD and Outlaw audio. Klipsch speakers are typically very efficient so don’t expect a huge difference.
Sir, Thank you for responding...
Finally Parasound, Emotiva, ATI which amplifier is better.
Simply just thank you.
You’re welcome
Great video
Thanks!
Buddy deserve to put external amp to my denon 4700 for high quality ? Will have difference or its gonna be lose money?🙄
What speakers are you running?
Is av receiver okay without any speakers connected?
Do you mean, can you power it on without speakers connected? Sure.
