    crazy how much offroad options the g wagon has but yet 98% owners dont use them.

      Agree. It has three lockers and that would be more effective than anything else offroad. I guess when a vehicle is that expensive it kinda steers people away from any potential damage.

      @@4WDisLife yeah but it might wind up living a life like the Jeep Grand Cherokees.... 15 years from now somebody will cut the fenders and this will be an amazing off-roader lol. Mud and leather will meet lol.

      And that's why they are getting softer, especially the 2018 w463 which lost the straight front axle.

    Wrangler Rubicon with real sway bar disconnect is definitely far superior. I think G wagon with tall profile make it little more vulnerable for roll over. I that situation my 4Runner with stock 265/70R17 would be in same trouble as G wagon I would assume. May be G wagon has better control than a 4Runner with front locker vs 4Runner only has A-trac for front? Big respect to the owner of G wagon for taking it offroad regardless the price.

    • @LionRunner
      @LionRunner Рік тому +1

      O the same front locker topic I wonder if I could get front lockers on my 4Runner. Wonder if 4Runner axles & tie rods are too weak for a front locker? (I'm thinking of e-ton e-locker. Don't want the trouble of air locker and its maintenance.)

    • @4WDisLife
      @4WDisLife  Рік тому

      I’d also recommend a Eaton e locker up front if they have that option. And yes. I’d think stock g wagon would be more capable than a stock 4runner, but they are about 5500 pounds, and 4runner and wranglers are maybe 4700 pounds?

    • @LionRunner
      @LionRunner Рік тому +1

      @@4WDisLife yes E-ton locker is available for 4Runner when I checked with the 4wd shop near me. I'm just worried about the front components strength to handle a locker. As for the weight my almost stock 4Runner (except for RCI aluminum skids & RSG sliders) is 5000lbs empty (2640 lbs front, 2360 lbs rear).

      @4WDisLife  Рік тому +1

      @@LionRunner i see. Not as light as I thought. Haha. For the front locker. If you get one. I’d recommend use it sparingly. And make sure try not turn while it’s on.

    Wrangler and G wagon are both great but I didn't expect the Wrangler to be THAT much better. Incredible!

    • @4WDisLife
      @4WDisLife  Рік тому +2

      Yea me neither, that extra suspension travel, 35 inch tires (2.5inch taller than the g wagons 30min tires). And the wrangler is a lot lighter than the g wagon. All these plays important roles offroad.

      I own an ex military G, W461. And until recently owned a 2013 Wrangler Sahara, and in terms of articulation the Jeep blows the G clean out of the water. So I did expect the Jeep to perform ;) For me, the G is a good overlander, due to its reliability, capacity and sturdy build.
      The Jeep is more aimed towards pure off-roading. But then , the only problem I had with the Jeep was the transmission (NAG 1) , and that ironically is a product of Mercedes. I love both Jeeps and the older G´s. They are very similar in very different ways. =)

    • @nirfz
      @nirfz Рік тому

      Additionally to the more flex in the front, the Jeep did take a different line, and appears to have MT tires fitted. (on it's axles, the spare looks AT) Any maybe it just looks that way to me in the video, but the stance is wider on the Rubcon shown than on a stock one.

    • @off-roadingexplained8417
      @off-roadingexplained8417 Рік тому +1

      @@nirfz yeah it's true that wider axles and or significant wheel spacers will probably change the motion radio of the suspension and add more flex. It also won't move the suspension as far to achieve the same vertical wheel movement with longer axles and or wider tires and or wheel spacers.

      @@skyline9789 I have the W461, (military spec). And until recently had a 2013 Wrangler. While the G is built more sturdy, my Jeep was more capable offroad. The G is so stiff, that you will need the lockers more times than not. On the Jeep, I had much more articulation, and did not need lockers. The only thing that was a problem on my Jeep, was its NAG transmission, which ironically is a product of Mercedes.Dont get me wrong, I love my G, and there is a reason i still have it, but not my Jeep. Imo. Mercedes has lost its quality over the years, they focus more on looks, than quality... As long as it looks great on instagram, they are happy. The G is a great overlander. But I would not take a new G over the older W461 or the G-Professional... That being said dont underestimate the Wrangler, when it comes to offroading. Its a beast.
