Okay you guys in the comments are my type of people so I need your help. I want an older style G Wagon because I’m obsessed with the box styled look and a Jeep Wrangler is small to me and I also love the the utilitarian aspect of the G. Have anyone had any major problems with the older models, I seen on a forum to avoid the 09’ version but couldn’t find anything else on other models. I also came across that the G could survive well over 500k in miles which is unbelievable and pretty cool if this is true. Love this review as well.
Driving this truck in big cities where income is high and it’s common, is no problem at all. I am in Vancouver, Canada and I see one every 10 minutes on the road.
I just watched your review of the ag wagon. I loved it so much that I want to get one. You really made the review so much fun to watch. Excellent delivery! Keep up the great work!!! 👏👍
Find a '98 to '01 Europa version... It's the sweet spot. Interior is well designed with solid materials (wood, leather, 4 seat heaters, but heavy duty plastic). It fits perfectly with the boxy exterior and is just classically beautiful. 2002 MBUSA interior is hideous and has aged terribly. Other than the back cargo door which can be adjusted, there are no real rattles or squeaks on the Europa interior. The HVAC system is manual, so you can do crazy things like have cool fresh air on your face and warm air on your feet in cold weather (Try that with any automated climate control system!) And no dated GPS/Interface screen. Plus Europa wagons have awesome tubular steel grid running boards that look perfect and really serve their purpose in inclement weather (snow or mud falls through the slots); contrast those to the flimsy plastic and chrome ones that MBUSA installed on their 2002+ imports.
Eye-catching and characteristically unique, my Black 2018 G-550 with 33” Falken Wildpeak AT3’s and Gobi Stealth roof rack is boss on and off-road. To the person, every single guy I know has expressed everything thing from like to unbridled envy, and every emotion in between. On the other hand, my hates the truck and prefers the ride of an Escalade. People point, stare, finger-wave when I drive by. I recently bought a 2003 G Wagen for the purpose of overlanding and traveling. As a lover of canyon driving, this thing is atrocious. All the faults you describe are SO true. AND so are the reactions of others. even though it's a 20 year old vehicle that cost less than a mid spec Camry, Accord, Outback, etc. and half the price of a current top spec Wrangler or Bronco or even Tacoma. I get dirty looks too. It's almost like I want to rattle can it flat earth, put on off road tires a winch and never wash it. Oh, and a roof rack with roof top tent, which is definitely happening. Maybe I'll do a flat earth PPF. Great video.
I have a 2003 g500 that I have put nearly 200k miles on it. ZERO major mechanical issues other than normal maintenance items. Some electrical components have needed replacement (Window switches, modules etc) but nothing ridiculous. I daily drive mine mostly in the winter and live up a 12 mile dirt road in the mountains of Utah. The fit and finish is old school Mercedes tooling which is superb. Seats and paint still look like new. Highly recommended! As for what other people think, I really don't care. If you like it, awesome. If you don't, screw you and your Escalade.
Very Nice review. Jokingly, you spoke so much truth. We all want cars with Soul ... absolutely... thats why despite what everyone says, I drive a Jag- it is an absolute beauty to look at 😊
I haven’t driven one, so I can't give a real take, but I’d guess they are technically better in about every way. That said, I’ve never been a big fan. It seems like something was lost in the latest generation, some of the soul the old generations had. What I love about the older ones is how utilitarian they are. There was some scrapiness in them. The latest gen is too LA for me.
Did you sell? I've owned a 2002 G500 for four plus years now, i love it. And yes, i hear you people's idea about it are so incongruent with the reality.
"People want a G class look rich" personally I just want it (and by it I mean an Old Gen G-wagon) is because I like big engines, big cars, it can carry stuff run fast is intimidating, drives like a boat and has the Mercedes Badge (proves that it lasts😂)
I am so saddened by vehicle stigmas; some of the most interesting, exciting, enjoyable vehicles are ruined by their arbitrarily negative image. Hmm. If I could have any impact on the world it would be to end this type of unfair, surface level judgement of people for something as insignificant as the vehicle they drive - among other things. Great video by the way!
Kanye has a great rant on an older track (I See Now by Little Brother featuring Kanye & Consequence) about the unreliability of this truck. It's hilarious.
The only problem is the way people look at you when driving it. best vehicle ive had in my life been with me for 15 yrs now. i live in the off road side you can be.
In my experience, it amplified whatever the vibe was with whatever person. It unfortunately has a stigma attached to it, but as a car guy, it's such a fun truck. Definitely worth experiencing. Enjoy! 02s rock. I'd recommend getting a carplay unit and swapping out the speakers (I had focals and they sounded great). It'll be pretty perfect after that.
@@dominicscalise That's super unfortunate, you seem like a very self-aware down to earth dude. I've gotten some commentary on the fact I drive a C6 Vette as a 27 year old guy "biT ToO SoOn 4 MiDliFe CriSis HuH??" so hopefully it won't be much worse than that. Yeah I was reading there's no aux or bluetooth for music and I'm so insistent on Wow by Post Malone being the first song I play so an audio rework is planned in addition to overlanding mods! Thanks for the fast reply, how's your land cruiser treating ya?
@@BlakeMadsen The Land Cruiser has been incredible. It's been about 8 months now with it and I haven't been so excited about a car since my vry rowdy Foxbody Mustang in High School. Truly a great truck.
Bro the truck is solid and nice, it already built its reputation, honestly it's very nice car so if you don't like just get rid of it, you have the money but it's a nice car, I would love to have it it's just perfect so if you don't like just sell it off, who care what people think when something is yours cmon take pride in the G
Congratulations on the sell, I did watch the vedio tho in the begin I got the impression that you don't like it, am glad you made the sell, I wish you all the best in every sell you make, I have a w460 but I don't have enough money to restore it to its full glory but I hope one day I will, wish you the best of the bestest.
Dominic G-55 or G-Wagon is not made by Mercedes Germany. It is made in Austria by Stayer company primarily as a military vehicle or as an off road farmers vehicle.
V8s have bumpier ride than diesel G-wagens. I never had a bumpy ride in my 350G. Fuel economy on mine is around 23mpg on average = it is important because I do drive it across Europe and I stop every 500km to refuel. Mine is 2011 and has no squeaks. Switches are absolute shit, however buttons on dashboard are fine (may be mine is slightly newer gear than his). Most annoying thing is how it collects bugs and dirt, due to its shape it picks up so much crap on the trip I have to wash it way too often and that is annyong. Washing this thing is a chore. The upside, every time I look at it it makes me smile. P.S. In Switzerland people dont pay any attention to my truck but other G-wagen drivers salute each other when passing in their trucks. And we have way better roads than in this video.
Life is too short to make "practical decisions" all your life. Screw all that. Buy what you want , drive what you want, and live it up. You can't take money and "practical thoughts" with you to the grave.

I want your take on the newest G CLASS please
I haven’t driven one, so I can't give a real take, but I’d guess they are technically better in about every way. That said, I’ve never been a big fan. It seems like something was lost in the latest generation, some of the soul the old generations had. What I love about the older ones is how utilitarian they are. There was some scrapiness in them. The latest gen is too LA for me.
Did you sell? I've owned a 2002 G500 for four plus years now, i love it. And yes, i hear you people's idea about it are so incongruent with the reality.
I did end up selling it. Was such a cool truck. Glad I got to experience it. Happy you have an 02 - one of my favorite years for them.
This was hilarious. I didnt expect to enjoy this review as much as I did haha 😅
Thank you!
I’m glad they’re getting cheap enough to wheel now. Almost at the price I’d buy one for 🤙 you should have kept it
Ferris Bueller's Day Off hasn't aged a day!
No better compliment 😂
😂HILARIOUS!!!! Nicely Done ✅
Thank you!
Have you reviewed the g550 2013?
Your thoughts ?
Not sure about the sense of humor here. I have a 2002 G500 and love it and get tons of thumbs up. Great looking and everyone loves it.
Cool
By 3:30 I was like, this kid is awesome and no matter all the trash he talked it made me want it more. Well played, now go add Legend to your resume.
Haha thanks, man
This was great😂currently looking at a 2003, I absolutely love them! 🎉
Such a fun and unique truck
please please do more car reviews
Great video brother
Thanks so much!
Just bought one. Will have to learn to Love
Are you not a fan out of the gate?
Great review Ferris!
"People want a G class look rich" personally I just want it (and by it I mean an Old Gen G-wagon) is because I like big engines, big cars, it can carry stuff run fast is intimidating, drives like a boat and has the Mercedes Badge (proves that it lasts😂)
Own a 2018 G 63 AMG.
Love the beast...
They are so fun
I am so saddened by vehicle stigmas; some of the most interesting, exciting, enjoyable vehicles are ruined by their arbitrarily negative image. Hmm.
If I could have any impact on the world it would be to end this type of unfair, surface level judgement of people for something as insignificant as the vehicle they drive - among other things. Great video by the way!
Brilliant video!
Thank you!
Good content and entertaining viewing
Thank you!
Is this thing sold already?
Yeah, sold her a couple years ago
Great video. I don't know why or how you don't have more views. I would suggest moving to a different city. Where do you live?? Chicago??
Thanks for the love! I'm in Kansas City.
Kanye has a great rant on an older track (I See Now by Little Brother featuring Kanye & Consequence) about the unreliability of this truck.
It's hilarious.
lol never thought I’d see this reference
My wife has a 2003 the same color. Very funny video mostly because of the truth included within.
Haha I feel for her, but man is it a fun and special truck.
The only problem is the way people look at you when driving it. best vehicle ive had in my life been with me for 15 yrs now. i live in the off road side you can be.
Did you list the model in your posting ?
I'm not sure what you're asking
"big body benz, ha" was referring to the s600
You're reading too far into things. It's a joke
This is an amazing video
Thank you!
You need to post more vids king
G wagon aka big bod aka the definition of rugged sophistication … if you know you know!
Hilarious review. Thanks
I hope you kept it
Browsing G-class videos as I'm waiting for delivery of my new-to-me '02. By "bad attention" do you mean potential personal safety hazard?
I love it and I am getting one.
It’s a fun truck for sure
Bro the truck is solid and nice, it already built its reputation, honestly it's very nice car so if you don't like just get rid of it, you have the money but it's a nice car, I would love to have it it's just perfect so if you don't like just sell it off, who care what people think when something is yours cmon take pride in the G
It seems like you didn't watch the video.
And I did sell it
Congratulations on the sell, I did watch the vedio tho in the begin I got the impression that you don't like it, am glad you made the sell, I wish you all the best in every sell you make, I have a w460 but I don't have enough money to restore it to its full glory but I hope one day I will, wish you the best of the bestest.
What year was the truck ? It’s not in until page
Thsnlsv
The one in this video is a 2002
Life is too short to make "practical decisions" all your life. Screw all that. Buy what you want , drive what you want, and live it up. You can't take money and "practical thoughts" with you to the grave.
Currently own an E46 M3 but planning to sell it to hop into a G500 2003. I keep getting told that I will miss my E46, and I know I will, but man I can't wait to throw people off when they see a G550 overlanding in my local off road trails. MAKE WAY JEEPS AND TOYOTA'S, A GENTLEMAN IS COMING THRU
Haha kindred spirits!
Being a car guy, you’ll dig the 03 G500. It’s so raw and fun.
Both are special in very different ways. I’m really glad I got to experience them.
Love this car
I totally get the "soul" and agree on the stigma, wanted to get one, but, nooooo
It was such a fun truck to own but, yeah, the social dynamic was stranger than I expected.
Eccentric guy had me lol
