    This man was a true legend. In the 60s, Chicago, Il., at the Regal Theater, Jackie Wilson would put on a show that the kids could understood. Everyone enjoyed his show. He truly earned the title, Mr. Excitement. Well earned I must say. RIP dear one. Thank you for all the excitement you brought into our lives.

      I'm 68, three months away from 69. Jackie Wilson's passion, tones, moves always had him stand out. He was before the time of marketing and commercialism, so knowledege of his art, skill, talent isn't so broad now, except for among those who study well the history of popular music. Seriously, Jackie was super-cool, an undeniable and shining standout.

    Such a shame! I'm 45 and Jackie is my all time favorite performer. As a kid I had a terrible stuttering issue my father played the heck out of Jackie, James Brown, Elvis, and B.B. king. I found that singing along with Jackie helped with my stuttering! He in mind and heart he became my best buddy! I can honestly say I love Jackie with all of my heart and soul! I wish I could have told him Thank you and say I love you Jackie! I saw an interview with his son saying that Elvis paid for Jackie's medical bills! That's a true friend❤

    A lot of Black Artists got screwed over that time. Some had to wait for as many as Forty Years before they got compensation. Also, some of his early songs were written by Berry Gordy in his Pre-Motown Records Days. Remember they did a Storyline like that on The Sopranos where Massive Genius and Hesh talked about how his Grandmother never got her Money from back in the day. I was listening to The Orlons and I didn't know that "Don't Hang Up" was by them. I remember hearing it on a Phone Commercial in the 1970's.

    This is my Mom. She played Jackie Wilson's ballads when I was very young. She loved "My Yiddish Mama," albeit, with some bitterness: she said Mr. Wilson was forced into ballads when the recording powers-that-were, were pushing Elvis Presley and didn't want the competition from Mr. Wilson, who's style Elvis took as his own. Mr. Wilson used to court my Aunt Barbara, and spent many hours in my Grandmother's house, around the piano, singing, with Barbara and all the sisters.

    It is common knowledge that Elvis not only liked Jackie Wilson but also admired Jackie. In one book about Elvis the author stated that Elvis went to see Jackie Wilson perform live. One of the songs Jackie sang was "Return To Sender". After seeing and hearing Jackie's version of "Return To Sender", Elvis was reported as saying "H-ll, I like his version better than mine". I remember well Jackie from the 50's and admired Jackie most because of his natural operatic voice. Jackie certainly had a great, great natural (no voice training), vocal talent equally combined with his natural ability to be a great entertainer. We had many, many, good (but not great) vocal singers in the 50's, neither were these good vocalists considered entertainers. It takes something extra to be a great singer and great entertainer. People like Jackie and Elvis and Jackie had that something extra.

    • @kingswing00
      @kingswing00 5 років тому +1

      It was "Don't Be Cruel"... Elvis talks about it on the Million Dollar Quarter recordings. He said he saw a member of Billy Ward his Domino's do his song. He didn't know who Jackie was at the time but he goes on to do an impression of Jackie singing the song and says Jackie "Sang the hell outta that song". He said he went back 3 nights to watch Jackie sing it. You can hear Elvis put some of that Jackie Wilson flavor into Don't Be Cruel in later live performances.

When Jackie song that song tears will tell it all he didn't know that was his faith. I love jackie dearly and hate bad things happened too him and his first family like a curse was on them. Jackie suffered at the hands of people he thought loved him. No one -- but NO ONE -- could set a stage on fire like Jackie Wilson. After an entire show full of those acrobatic, sexy dance moves, he'd finish up by lying down on the edge of the stage and letting the women come running up to touch him, grab him, pull his clothes off -- he'd end up walking backstage with his clothes in tatters, covered in scratches and blood from their fingernails. And that voice of his was a thing of majesty and wonder.

      Not only that....Him and The Spinners paid for his funeral.....Elvis did not want to be named for helping his friend,that's why......Elvis did not want to public to know what he was doing......I can respect that.......I used to couldn't stand Elvis......and then,I started doing research......He wasn't a bad person,at all.....just got caught up in the nonsense of the music industry like all of the rest.....The music industry has only gotten worse........😔😔😔......and these Artists will completely and willingly "sell-out".....versus "fighting back" like the Artists from yesterday.......I respect the Artists from yesterday simply because they fought for their rights....and that is what you supposed to do........"Stand Up For Something.....Or "Fall" For Anything"......🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥👊👊👊👊👊👍👍👍👍👍!!!!!!!!!.

    Michael Jackson was extremely vocal about this in 2001. He said since he was a child, JW & JB were his inspiration, he always gave Jackie and other black artists credit for his inspiration to do great, and then he did even greater. All so very, very sad.

    I hope one day there will be a movie made about Jackie Wilson and after seeing this post I think there may be hope yet. Jackie's life had it all, so much drama and despite the sad stuff there are so many happy moments to put on the big screen. The guy was a feel good ledgend and the movie should show exactly that. It would be good if the movie was accurate, as in show up the mob who still seem to control everything to do with Jackie to this very day. Its cruel beyond belief. RIP Jackie

    • @tammylewis2408
      @tammylewis2408 10 місяців тому

      Tommy James knew firsthand, he wrote a great book titled, "Me, the Mob, and the Music" about his time with Morris Levy, who headed Roulette Records and had mob ties. TJ waited until all the players were dead before he was able to write his book. In the book, TJ tells about Levy's strong-arm tactics for keeping artists in line, and even TJ himself was threatened when questioning Levy about his song royalties. But TJ also said that Levy allowed him artistic freedom, which produced classic songs such as "Crimson and Clover", "Mony, Mony", and "Crystal Blue Persuasion"; something that larger labels like CBS, RCA, or WB would have not allowed him to do, but he paid the price by foregoing the royalties which he later regretted and fought to get royalties. Levy died in 1990.
      Many other managers/record company/publishers of those like Levy have since died. Here are several of the well-known deaths:
      Allen Klein, who robbed the Beatles and the Stones pre-1970 song catalogs, and other artists catalogs died in 2009;
      Stan Polley, who robbed Badfinger and other artists of their income resulting in the suicides of two of the Badfinger members died in 2009 ;
      Saul Zaentz, who robbed John Fogarty of his songs, and manipulated the other members of CCR, including John's brother Tom, turning against him, and later suing Fogarty for plagiarizing (Old Man Down the Road/Run Thru the Jungle) died in 2014. Fogarty mocked Zaentz in the song Vanz Kant Danz from his Centerfield album; it originally was Zaentz Kant Danz, but the title had to be changed because of a lawsuit threat. Fogarty recently won back his CCR songs.
      Basically KARMA came for those men and others who had mob ties and robbed artists of their hard-earned income.

It is also upsetting that there are not more in depth and decent biography's on Jackie. He is a LEGEND. After watching this I did some digging and read an article that when he had a heart attack, he fell and hit his head; hence the brain damage? They should never have shown the image of Jackie in such a bad state. Could have just said how he ended up without the heartbreaking visual!!!
