I met him one night in a high-end L.A. restaurant. On my way to the restroom, I see Oliver Stone at a table to my right, who looked up and nodded. On my way out and going back to my table, Greg Hines was dining at a table/booth on my right. Our eyes met. He was having dinner with a woman, and I stopped dead in my tracks at his table. He looked up and smiled, knowing I recognized him, and he shook my hand. I think we extended hands simultaneously. I can easily recall the feel of that genuine handshake. I told him I admired his work so much and started to move back to my table. He introduced me to the woman he was dining with, and my girlfriend was sitting at our table, agape at seeing this. So, I called her over and introduced her to Greg and his date. He says, "Hey man I KNOW you!" I smiled and said, "I doubt that." and he insisted, "No man, I KNOW that I know you!" I said, "No man, you've met someone who LOOKS like me ... but it wasn't me." We politely disengaged and it's always been a find memory whenever he comes up. He could not have been a nicer, more polite and warm person in that situation. I was saddened when I learned he passed away just a few years later.
Mr Gregory Hines grew up with my family in Brooklyn New York, he dated my aunt and my grandmother 👵🏾 use to tell him to get his big feet off her couch.
You know he would visit our city often and go to the grade schools and middle schools to talk to the kids and I remember the last time he was here he said he would tap for a child who asked him to tap the next time that he was in town. I can only imagine that maybe he was feeling ill at the time but I don't recall what caused his death
“There’s Nothing Better Than Love” with Luther Vandross was a beautiful duet. The fact that we lost both of the legendary black entertainers far too soon, is rather sad and disheartening! What a well rounded entertainer. -RIP🕊️Gregory….
Listen to his song “So much better now” from the same album it is excellent. Not many people have heard about it even though I do remember it from the time this self titled album was released. RIP Luther Vandross & Gregory Hines you are sorely missed.

This doesn’t reflect at all on the credibility of the black community ! It’s time we stop taking responsibility for everything black ! (Positive or negative). If real equality is the goal then we must realize that everything done/ said by 1 person of color doesn’t reflect on the whole race!

Listen to the song which he sung that was produced by Luther Vandross & Nat Adderley Jnr and his musicians called “So much better now” it is excellent.
White Knights, The Cotton Club (encore), Renaissance Man, Tap, and History of the World Part 1 are some of my favorite movies with him. My older brother and I loved watching his movies. I miss both Gregory Hines and my big brother 💔

"Celebrated dancer of HIS time"? His time? Give over, Mr. Hines is one of a special few, very best tap dancers ever. I own White Nights & Tap on DVD, both of which are played frequently. Just class! 😊
I loved watching Gregory Hines in movies but especially loved his sitcom. As a teenager he had me hooked by singing the duet with Luther Vandross. RIP Gregory Hines ..
He was a gentle person. I met him in Barbados 🇧🇧 while I worked as a production assistant on Sports Gutterperk, a Saturday with former Barbadian Body Builder, Roy Callender. The 2nd time I met him was my first time in New York in the Village. He wanted to know what is doing in cold NY away from sunny Barbados

I remember seeing Mr. Hines on Broadway in Jelly's Last Jam with my mother and grandma. They saw him in Eubie and Sophisticated Ladies on Broadway years before. And I remember his grandchild went to the preschool I taught in. I had to contain myself when he walked through the door the first time. It was lovely just seeing him be grandpa to his grandson. Then we just got used to him being there at drop off or pick up time. What a class act. I definitely miss him tapping. Watching him tap looked effortless, like I could get up and do it too. He was hilarious as Ben on Will and Grace. RIP Gregory.
Was there ever a more talented and beautiful spirit than Gregory Hines to have passed this way in our life time. He gave us all he had to give? Gregory te quiero para siempre.
I’ve been a super supporter of Gregory Hines since I was little being born in 83 and loving music and dance I watched movies like Tap,Grease, Sparkle, and The Wiz over and over again just to name a few we had VHS tapes back then but once I was grown I found another level of loving Gregory Hines when I saw him as and his brother in The Cotton Club their performance was Stellar and then again when he played Mr Bojangles himself which Hines never get credit for he did an Amazing job for that no one else could’ve done that role he was made specially for that role 😳❤️🎶💕 Society and / the powers that be only allow Our greats to be greats with restraints But for Greg he mentally and emotionally broke those chains 3 times and that was when Gregory was on stage, the movie Tap and you can feel his freedom in the movie Bojangles while portraying The Iconic Bill Robinson you did a good job research and educating the youngsters about Real Icons and Real Talent. Thank you Salute 💕🎶❤️
Gregory Hines appeared in two movies with Whitney Houston- Waiting To Exhale & The Preacher's Wife. Sadly, he died on her 40th birthday in 2003. Then 8.5 short years later....
I pray to God to give you a lot of beautiful days and you know God loves us so much,So where are you originally from? I am David originally from Spain but currently living in Texas now...

Mr. Hines was a Multi talented man. He brought joy to everyone who followed him and his career!! He is so missed! To be absent here, is to be present with our Lord! Rest in peace Mr. Hines
Confirms what?! That he could dance his 🫏 off? He and his brother were up there as two of my favorite hoofers. They also were very good singers. What a combination! I miss them.🕊
I MET MR. HINES ON THE SANTA MONICA PROMENADE IN THE EARLY 2000'S. WE SPOKE & SAID SAVION GLOVER IS THE GREATEST EVER. WE WERE SMOKING CIGARS NEXT TO LONE WOLFE CIGARS WATCHING STREET DANCERS. REALLY COOL
Ive always admired Hines. Its interesting how with all we as ADOS people have to deal with in society but we still decide to marry the oppressor. PTSD-Post traumatic stress disorder. So sad.
@@BebeNow He really absolutely was!!! My Aunt danced with him at The Cotton Club and another show. I met him after Jelly's Last Jam and he remembered my aunt!!!! Talked with my family & I for awhile while signing autographs!!! The absolute NICEST PERSON EVER!!!!! I hope he is tapping away up there!!!
@@misha2929 that’s beautiful! I was a dancer for 15 years . When I first met him in 1984 he was going to the same gym as my mother. She was too cute. She called me at home and told me that he was there and that I should come pick her up. So I did, and I met him, and he was so nice and so gracious. I was 14 at the time, had a major crash in many ways. What a talented man. AND he’s second wife was also very nice. I met her another time at the gym. They would workout together some times. I was strength training at that time for dance. Beautiful couple at that time.
"Running Scared" is a fantastic cop/buddy film. Love it! And yes, I have his cd, which I adore. I could have watched him read the phone book - though if he'd have done it while dancing that would have been better. Loved him as an entertainer, and he will always be missed.
I caught about the last 2 hours of this discussion. The Man represents the Nation-State in the marriage. The women and children represent your citizens. It's not a partnership. The wife may need to wear the hat of the CEO, CIO, or CFO. Teacher, Janitor, Doctor, etc... At the end of the day; the man must produce, provide, protect, secure, and defend. Of course, he must also Govern. I hope this clears that whole partnership nonsense up.
I miss this guy. I met him when my brother was on Broadway in “Bring in Da Noise” and taking lessons from his teacher Henry LeTang. It was cool chopping it up with him. Truly a big loss for us all.😢
Tap is one of my favorite movies. Gregory Hines, Sammy Davis Jr, Suzanne Douglas and Savion Glover, were excellent! Rest Peacefully Gregory Hines, gone too soon❤.
Iam sick and tired of UA-camrs destroying the departed ones characters. He was probably the most talented entertainer ever came around, we his fans miss him alot and may the Buddhist gods continue to rest him in peace.
It seems unreal that it’s been 21 years! He was a triple threat talent: dancing, singing & acting. So sorry to hear of his brother Maurice’s, who was equally talented, ecent passing.
i truly loved watching this talented brother, in everything from "The Cotton Club" to "Running Scared". Truly a gifted individual. R.I.P. My Brother !!!
He just dropped a serious diamond he said “I work through what I’m goin through when I’m dancing” “ I try not to think about what I’m creating and just create” I love it!
And it makes someone great like Gregory Hines not seen so great so some people may not even watch and then his reputation has been tarnished based on assumptions
Gregory Hines life & career is very inspiring!!!! He has returned from the dead more times than his passing!!!! He showed that if you have ambition combined with passion, you become a force that can't be stopped!!!!! REST IN PARADISE!!!!👏👏👏👏
"Shine sweet freedom shine the light on thee...." he sung backround on micheal mcdonalds song from the movie Running Scared, listen for it/watch the video. Great guy!

I remember flying home to Jersey and my sister and I few into LaGuardia… Ran into Gregory Hines walking through the airport and we flipped out… Got hug and Autograph. He was at least 6’5
He didn't seem that tall to me, maybe 6 feet if that but he did have on a cap and I also had on Flats and in the photo he didn't look that tall unless I was about to pass out😂 now Danny DeVito on the other hand might have come to my shoulder maybe a little above and I have a long head🤔
@@sconiersclan 😂😂 I understand but I had reached my full adult height by age 13 and that wasn't very tall just average height for a woman though. Anyway I just looked it up and he was 6 ft tall

So sad.
What is ADOS??
Sounds like your the real oppressor.
Love is Love. Take it where you find it.
Worshiping melanin won't save you.
@@wkbbratLove is not love.
Not just an incredible & talented dancer, but the Nicest SWEETEST man you will ever meet!!! Fly High Angel! ❤
Omg I just commented something SIMILAR he was the sweetest person I’ve ever met.
What rumors? Answer: Click bait.
Thanks for the memories really miss you see you on the other side
He had way too much talent for one person. Loved him!
MISS his great tap dance & Great Movie rolls. Much Love To The Family
I miss this guy. I met him when my brother was on Broadway in “Bring in Da Noise” and taking lessons from his teacher Henry LeTang. It was cool chopping it up with him. Truly a big loss for us all.😢
I'll be 50 this year, and I loved watching Gregory Hines over the years.
I loved him in White knights & waiting to exhale 😅✌️❤️😌. Brother Gregory R.I.P.
It seems unreal that it’s been 21 years! He was a triple threat talent: dancing, singing & acting. So sorry to hear of his brother Maurice’s, who was equally talented, ecent passing.
THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH FOR THESE BEAUTIFUL MEMORIES OF KING GREGORY HINES👑BRAVO 👏🏼 🙏🏽👑👏🏼
i truly loved watching this talented brother, in everything from "The Cotton Club" to "Running Scared".
Truly a gifted individual.
R.I.P. My Brother !!!
I can't believe so many forgotten memories until I saw these clips. Especially the 90's😮😮
*RIP Mr. Hines."
He just dropped a serious diamond he said “I work through what I’m goin through when I’m dancing” “ I try not to think about what I’m creating and just create” I love it!
I love Gregory Hines. But what was the "Rumors" his family was supposed to have confirmed? Another misleading title..
I hope he knew how good he was.
"Shine sweet freedom shine the light on thee...." he sung backround on micheal mcdonalds song from the movie Running Scared, listen for it/watch the video. Great guy!
I pray to God to give you a lot of beautiful days and you know God loves us so much,So where are you originally from? I am David originally from Spain but currently living in Texas now...
The title is deceiving and completely unnecessary.
I remember gregory he was one of my favorite actor and dance. Rip gregory
This man is one of my favorite entertainers EVER he's is apart of my up bringing i loved the movies running scared and the cotton club i dont think he is has gotten his just due he was a amazingly talented human being
What the hell was that Will & Grace clip at the beginning, that was an episode were they thought he was a thief!?!? Bloody hell!
That was just Karen crazy a$$ making the black man joke lol. Will worked for his law firm and Grace dated him for a while. He was also Karen's lawyer.
My Grandfather grew up with his Dad and Uncles ..... he referred to my grandpa as "GodPop"
This was so well put together! Please update the title…
He was so talented. I’m so glad we have films, etc to readily recall his great gifts. Miss him. RIP ❤️👍🏻🌹
He was a tremendous talent and a gifted man, seriously underrated. He was gone far too soon but his spirit lives on. He was great on Will and Grace .
I remember meeting him and his brother in Brooklyn when I was a little girl. They were friends with my baby sister
I pray to God to give you a lot of beautiful days and you know God loves us so much,So where are you originally from? I am David originally from Spain but currently living in Texas now...
Nothing revealed!
Phew!
Loved him in Waiting to Exhale 😍...
@@sable7114 I was only 13 years old he was tall to me
@@sconiersclan 😂😂 I understand but I had reached my full adult height by age 13 and that wasn't very tall just average height for a woman though. Anyway I just looked it up and he was 6 ft tall
He was fantastic in "Running Scared" with costar Billy Crystal. I must have watched that movie 100 times...more or less!
