    I don’t personally pay attention to watch tiers personally. Three reasons. 1) They are subjective. 2) True enthusiasts taste change over time. 3) Discretionary income for enthusiasts widely varies.

    80 % of watch content sucks. Long livestreams are the worst. Near identical new-release vids are often repetitive. Quality becomes hard to find.

    They are shallow but can sometimes be fun. Really the meta in most tier lists is taste. That's the nature of being an influencer, which is what most watch youtube channels are and why most people watch them. The audience wants to know what cool people think is cool. And since the types who buy high end watches are never going to use them as tools, developing a sound criteria isn't considered.

    “All Watch Tier lists are absolute shit!” 😂 What an introduction Pete. I agree with some of the other comments here that Tier Lists are basically very lazy content which is aimed at being quick and easy to absorb chewing gum type ‘entertainment’ for Watch enthusiasts.
    I loved your breakdown of how many variants there were of just one size of Rolex Datejust. Fascinating to hear how many there were. That certainly highlights the groaning that the Rolex Fanboys have about their arch enemy Omega’s catalogue and how it contradicts their claims that Rolex has such a streamlined catalogue.
    Love your outlook on this topic Pete. Great video and an enjoyable “rant for the day”. Keep up the great work my friend ✊

    You’re bang on with this Pete. No matter how hard you try, it’s quite impossible to objectively rank brands. Simply too many brand and product variables, too many disparate markets, too much subjectivity in the opinions of tier-listers. And opinions are like backsides, we all have one. 😂

      I guess this raises an issue for me - is there such a thing as "just entertainment". Brands pay good money to appear in this sort of "entertainment" and they only do that because they know it influences our behanviour - therefore is anything just entertainment?

  • @NicolasMiari
    @NicolasMiari Місяць тому

    I really like some Omega watches. I respect Rolex as a brand but they don't have a single model right now for which I would pull the trigger. I don't give a rat's ass for the "Trinity". I think Hamilton is great value, but I personally can afford more (and I don't need to have those many watches).

  • @Nefville
    @Nefville Місяць тому

    Finally we agree on something. These lists are about as useless as those "Top 4 Independent Brand Watches" where those four are Patek Phillipe, FP Journe, MB&F and Rolex. Or substitute whatever category of watch you want, for instance "Top 6 Rolex Watches", the point being everyone in this hobby knows these brands, we're not discovering something new so at the end of the day its just a huge waste of time. Its lazy content creation, pure and simple.

    Disagree. The watch tier lists are subjective they're often about what the Brand has done overall, not the thousands of options for one size of watch. Just like this video is subjective against tier lists. The creators even say they're subjective. Watch purchasing I find is almost always about your perception of a brand. You're trying to rationalise an irrational (often luxury) purchase, since when has that ever been a rational purchase? As somebody else has said they're often entertainment and I disagree with quite a few of their findings, I've purchased a watch because I've liked the watch, not because Nico said so, I wouldn't take it too seriously!

    • @PeteMcConvillWatches

    • @TravellingTechie
      @TravellingTechie Місяць тому

      @@PeteMcConvillWatches Watch buying is not qualitative nor is it objective, it is personal choice.
