John Danaher Leg Lock Instructional

- At a sold out jiu jitsu seminar at Dynamix MMA in Los Angeles, CA, John Danaher demonstrated a powerful attack series from the cross ashi garami & inside sankaku positions.
The Japanese term ashi garami translates literally to "leg entanglement". Cross ashi garami refers to trapping or entangling an opponents' leg across your own center line. Inside sankaku is a variation of cross ashi garami in which a wedge or triangle (sankaku) is formed inside of the trapped leg. This configuration not only limits our opponents' defense & escape options, but also puts us in position to attack both the ankle and knee simultaneously via achilles lock and inside/inverted heel hook.
Seminar talking points included: butterfly guard, elevation, frames, wedges, x-guard, reverse x-guard, ashi garami, inside sankaku, the concept of dilemma, and the application of breaking pressure.
Posture/spine curvature from butterfly guard to elevate a bigger, stronger opponent
Use of frames and hip positioning to get underneath our opponent, followed by off balancing which leads to limb (leg) extension.
Entering our opponent’s legs via ashi garami and inside sankaku
Using ankle lace ashi garami to control position and present our opponent with a dilemma by attacking both the primary and secondary legs simultaneously
Finishing mechanics of the achilles lock (secondary leg) and transitioning to inside sankaku for the heel hook finish (primary leg)

He's truely one of the great ones. A gift to jiu-jitsu
But the truth is, I am.
But I don't care.

John Danaher is the coolest and most badass nerd I've ever seen
I watch this video every day, the way he details this is amazing. You're watching a psychopath in action but not a crazed psychopath but a controlled one. I love this!!!!!!!
.....and that my friends, is how to properly enunciate. A bond villain if I ever saw one.
Some people call me the evil overlord of Jiu Jitsu.
And the truth is, I am.
But I don't care.
i usually get bored af when we go through this technique explanation during the class but somehow i could listen to this dude all day long.. funny
‘It looks like I’m losing the hand fight, but the truth is...... I AM’ Hahaha
tremendous breaking pressure
My god he talks like his Instagram posts
notmyrealname23 ya, he is clearly a nogi legend, but he talks like such a posh knob.
haha I was just thinking that
I like how he talks. What he means is always very clear and he doesn't use unnecessary words.
@@justicedelicious1880 yeah, we should resent everyone who speaks intelligently. It’s really too bad he’s not as dim witted as you are. A real shame.

The best explanation of putting your opponent on the Horns of the Dilemma. Excellent! If I was younger, I'd try to train with Danaher.
Wow, that was better than I thought it would be.
Might have to buy the DVD.
this is exactly what I was thinking AND I love Kimura Grips, you sir are a genius
do it man!! I just got it from a friend of mine with the dvd, and its awesome
Dude this is slick. Had my doubts but buying it too
@@boopadoopa8029 what's the DVD called?
I like calling It a dilema instead of a dobble attack.
But you don’t like to spell either correctly
Good Lord.....I think I have to get the DVDs now. That confidents just pulls you in, instructions are good.
And from hence he called out to his disciples: "why does thou not breakest the secondary leg?"
John Danaher is the James Bond of Jiu Jitsu
And now I understand it! I couldn't see the angle in today's class when John went over this. Having this visual perspective made all the difference. Can't wait to drill this.
The more intelligent Cus D'Amato of Jujitsu.
His movements have so much mastery in them, I can't even tell he's limited because of health conditions.
I feel like Brian Regan during the bit when he's trying to take physics notes and says, "Slow down! Hold on professor!"
Constructing dilemmas. Love it.
"I am, but I don't C a R e."
~an absolute legend
Yooooo that was so raw. I didn't even see that comin. Definitely adding to the arsenal.
Don't know what it is exactly, but John Danaher has it.....i was hanging on everyword then in that display.....its like the thing the TV show X-factor was all about, finding that thing you know what it is when you see it as its hard to explain,Some people just have an ability to control the room it's not just charisma and being charismatic....Its like a personal magnetism that you just know when you see it.salute sir 🫡
Gracias por los subtítulos. Hay tanta información valiosa que aprender sobre John Danaher.💪🏻
Practiced this recently. That achilles lock technique is tight!
Genius. Legitimately. No hyperbole. No modernist exaggeration. Man is a genius.
John is brilliant
His teaching skill is different level
Master Danaher is gangster disguised as an intellectual. Love him
This is exactly how Gordon Ryan beats Cyborg
that initial ankle lock is brutal, feels like your ankle is imploding
Yori Nakamura was doing these leglocks in the 90s. And Rickson became exposed to advanced leg locking.
Damn. This knowledge is like leaving a loaded gun 🔫 on the kitchen table surrounded by kids 😬😬😬....but on the flip side I can already see some broken legs 😂😂😂
He is about as close to a super villain as a non fictional character can get.
So legit!
Thank you Professor
That’s beautiful
i could never be in a class were theres so may students. its always nice to get close to ur mentor. this looks like a very distant relationship between student and teacher
This was a seminar we did. You're right, a daily class this size might not lend itself to a lot of interaction with your students. But this was an event to give people an opportunity to learn from Danaher. A seminar for practitioners to train with him who normally wouldn't get that opportunity.
@@DynamixMMA ohh gotcha, i thought this was a normal class not a seminar hahah my bad
Jesus... this man really knows his shit!!
Amazing ... it is kind of religious to see and hear John teaching.
Scary stuff man.
Brilliant.
This man's brain is so big
Primate leg and the 2ndry leg lol good lord John
Fucking bad ass. Danaher is a magician
Holy shit that's awesome
Mind blown... So proud to be apart of renzo Gracie fight team
You're in NYC?
"if i see my opponent coming up, ill switch from a regular ass-a-gurami to an inside shin- cocka-too"
Genius!
A bjj genius!
The more choices you give your opponent the more opportunities there is for them to make a mistake.
"If you do this...Ommm-Kay, then put your arm right here...Ommm-Kay, then you've got great braking conditions...Ooooommmmmmmmmm-Kayyyyy".
lul
This move sums up the Pitbull song, "I got, I got, I got, I got options!"
When he talks people listen.
Love this
Incredible
John needs to play a Super Villain in something like John Wick 3! Heeling hooking Neo! haha..
Or in the matrix 4
quick question. whats the difference between Secondary and primary leg?
nvm. seeing him switch legs answered the question.
The great guide for BJJ
I never seen Double Trouble being implemented in MMA eventhough you won't get kicked in the head and I can't find any video on this subject. Does anyone know any source?
And also the idea of threathening the secondary leg in order to secure the primary leg seems obselete because none of his students use it.
John would make a terrifying serial killer LOL
mind blown
Is this allow in white belt? I was talking aboit The first sub?
genius
"But I don't care" 💯💯💯😎😎😎💪💪🔥🔥what a fucking gangster
so damm cool
Can you make them tap on the first leg lock
🔥
anyone think of a match where this exact sequence was the finish ?
damn... check mate... scary..
🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
where can i get these dvds?
people sitting/standing behind danaher like they can see sh*t
Quality looks good to me, I wonder why they're remaking the series. (assuming this was from v1)

This position he calls Inside Ashi Garami is illegal in IBJJF right?
Gordon Ryan posted on his instagram page what is legal and what is not, according to IBJJF rules. Basicaly, you can't make this achilles lock grip on the primary leg (the one your legs are pinching), and you can't interlace both legs (your arm going over the secondary leg and then under the primary leg). In other words, you can grab the secondary leg like he is grabing at the begining of the video, and you can grab the primary leg underneath the knee (what he calls a scoop grip).
I wonder if youmight defend both options by attempting to separate his nearest elbow instead? it seems like the arm would slip free fairly easily tho for him to switch to the second option
Key is to NEVER EVER give him the second leg! Danaher calls this "double trouble" and 90% of your escaping ability + movement comes from your free (non attacked) leg. So don´t give it to him, turn immediately towards him (to prevent the heelhook) and fight his crossed legs.
If you can widen his leg entanglement by fighting against his crossed legs you should be able to clear the knee line (no more danger for your foot/knee)
highsoflyify yup there was a BJJ breakdown video on how to tame Danaher's leg locks and it shows that the first priority is to break the crossed legs from the attacker.
prevention is ideal but realistically you need to look at some defenses at every point in the sequence

Grip fighting in inside sankaku when he has both legs, is like fighting against the RNC after your opponent has taken your back with both hooks in and already his armpit under your chin ;)
Possible, but highly unlikely If your opponent knows what to do and has nearly your experience level
The old and wise Kurt Osiander would say:
"You fucked up looong time ago" ^^
yes well odd as this may seem to you after I fuck up I try to improve the bad spot I got into. I guess you tap out as soon as someone gets hooks in on your back or what? in order to defend at every spot you have to look at ways to defend from that spot not just give up because someone landed a good position....
Thought that was Mike swick
gokpr chivichyan is number 1
Terrifying!!! The worst part of it is for those who dont recognize they are in a really bad position they are going snap before they can even tap... This was probably the main focus from the early Japanese Juijitsu/ Bujutsu and Chinese Chin-Na. Highly likely these techniques were systematically replaced by the less dangerous Kempo, Judo, Sumo and Sanshou styles.
Forget leg locks.. I will leave that to the Purple , Brown and black belts. I just focus on the chokes, arm locks and shoulder locks and that is enough for me lol

Devastating trap imagine catching someone with a leglock….within a leglock! 😂it will be surprisingly scary

Changing the bjj world and the names of moves lol
He's just using the old Japanese names from Judo which is where BJJ originated anyway.
I do not own a DVD player- is there an online or download version available? DVD? May as well be on VHS bro.
The link in description takes you to the digital download.
how do you not own a dvd player.....
Uhhhh... it's antiquated and outdated obsolete technology?
not if you want to watch John Danaher dvds......plus how do you not have like a playstation or somethig
or a computer wtf
Sorry to break the practicality point of this video but if you're grappling with a trained BJJ fighter, odds are, as they break your grip on their secondary leg, to gain any vantage point, they won't just let go of your hands like how he did. They'll hold on and spin or roll to get to a safer position.
Try that against any of DDS. They'll tear your ligaments and hand them to you.
kmden Rt I'm just saying that a normal BJJ guy normally won't just release every hold he has when he's getting out of the first leg lock. He will hang on to their arms and try to work from there. If his grip slips that's a completely different story.
That nunchuck guy if a normal guy will do that what makes a world champion not do that? The dds wrecks work champion with this, you dumbfuck. The act of holding on is a lot harder in real life
@@thatnunchuckguy7028 He's already anticipating grabbing the primary leg, so he'll preemptively let his opponent unlock his hand, probably, so he can use the momentum to shift straight into the heel hook. The speed between holding the Achilles lock and switching to the heel hook on purpose will probably evade any attempts by the defender to grab and keep hold of the attacking arm (that was previously helping lock in the Achilles lock). Preemptive movement always beats reactive movement. This man is a genius.
Senkoku? I don't even know you.
A
leg locks dont seem very popular in MMA because you can easily get KO with both of your hands tied up.
Dude.
You have your own videos
that prove you're here.
I conclude you aren't.
The other dude looks like an egg drawn like Schaub
hilarious
Jcream101 he is not Brendan, you dumbfuck. Danaher called him josh.
I pity the person who thinks he might be an easy target while in subway!!
To the guys sat at the back (who can’t see anything). Morons.. you have John Danaher showing techniques, but nah seen it all before ey.
What did you learn today?

Leg locks and bjj are a waste of time. It is useless against knives especially leg locks because the bad guy’s hands are free to stab.
