My 2018 Colorado Z71 had the shudder problem immediately after I purchased it in May 2020 with 71,000. I took it to a Chevy dealer and they triple flushed the transmission and replaced with Mobile One per the GM Technical Bulletin. The flush completely eliminated the shudder much to my relief. The dealer I purchased it from, Craig and Landreth in Louisville, covered the $500 bill. I highly recommend them. They are first class! It has now been 9 months and 10,000 miles later and it drives like a dream.

Hey man I know this is an older post but I was having a similar issue with my truck shifting between 2-3. The dealership told me it was normal and nothing was wrong with it after they had it for 3 days. However I wasn’t pleased with this and took it to another dealer where they found out the Torque convertor was bad and it need to be replaced. A week later my truck was running 100% better and the dealership got everything covered under warranty. Just thought id share. Cheers!

That's good for you, I'm glad you're all clear, they are totally rebuilding my transmission which they stated the torque converter went as well... like I said above, I have a $200 deductible plus they only covered six days at 40 bucks a day for a rental car. Was this a recall situation on the Chevy Colorados between 2017 and 2019? HU

My 2018 Z71 Shudder started at 6000 miles. I jumped on it and my Chevy dealer in Tarpon Springs, FL, also jumped on it as well. 1.5 hours later I was out of there and she runs fine. The service manager told me, this latest fix is working and I should not have any problems. But to drive 200 to 500 more miles and bring it back for them to check it out again.

Just spoke to a dealer tech, and they said the issue is a known issue and will be covered under warranty if they can record the shuddering for warranty purposes. They said the original transmission fluid needs to be replaced with a new version of the fluid. They said both the 3.6L Camaro and Colorados are experiencing this. Fluid replacement should fix the shudder. Thanks for the videos!

With a lift kit and bigger tires you should really regear. With an auto you should get 4.56 ratio gears.
Also Matt, there is a TSB for the transmission shutter so they have to work on it. Call GM if it keeps happening. Corporate can get you the work done over the dealer saying no.
Your lift cannot stop them. Read and reference the Magnuson Moss Act.

I took my Colorado to the dealership. They did change my transmission fluid. At about 5000 miles shuttering and overdrive hard shift in 3rd 4th and 5th. and they also did that update you're talkin about which took a lot of power from the truck and change shifting. I actually called them and complained and they switched it back thank goodness..it has 21,000 miles now and there still a little shudder in overdrive and they say that's because the computers confused about which gear to go into and there's no fix for it but it will not cause no issues.and it pisses me off because I want to put the supercharger on it, and lower it 3 inches but I don't want to void my warranty.

I took my colorado for the transmission shudder myself. I told the service manager that it was intermitten because I just started to notice it. She brought the shop foreman over and told me to take him on a test drive. I told him what I felt and described it as “running over washboard dirt roads or rumble strips.” He interrupted me completing my sentence at 40-45mph, light acceleration, or up hills. He obviously knew what was going on. I was able to recreate it going up an overpass on a highway and he states “this is what I’m looking for.” So I turn around and the conversation turned to about how they won’t be able to work on it until Tuesday. I’m like I really wasn’t expecting that, and I needed it done because I planned around today. And he’s like “Yeah it’s going to be tough to fit it in today we focus on walk-ins on the weekends, GM is starting to not pay them for doing these flushes. Because technicians are short cutting the flushing process. It’s standardized as 3 hours. According to him Camaros and Silverado’s are easy to shortcut by draining them through cooling hoses (Camaro). Or they hook up multiple flushing machines (Silverado) to cut the time down.
So they ended up doing the flush today (The foreman who I test drove with did it.) After the flush I pick up my truck. The service manager tells me this. “Drive it for 200mi. Give us a call after that, if it’s fixed or if you feel the shuddering.” I questioned it, and according to her, GM has a protocol for wether the shuddering shows up immediately after the flush or after 200mi. It’s required to have 200mi. On the new oil before a warranty Torque Converter can be replaced. On my way home I didn’t feel nor able to recreate the shuddering under all driving conditions. 226 miles later still haven’t felt it.

Listen to Christian everyone as this is the correct information that is being said. I have a 2019 Chevy Colorado Z71 with only 3300 miles on it and had been noticing the shuddering issues that many Colorado users have been experiencing as well. Therefore, this past Friday I took my Chevy Colorado into the dealer to see what could be done before I put on a 6 inch Rough Country lift kit so as to not void my warranty and what do you know I was scheduled to drop Vehicle off yesterday so they could diagnosis the problem. Yesterday, about 12 noon time I received a call from the service manager explaining that they were able to recreate the issue of the shuddering between 40-70 mph. Since they were able to diagnosis the issue they performed a complete transmission fluid swap. Upon picking up my vehicle from the dealer I was than told the exact information that Christian has provided. Drive vehicle 200 miles and at least 2 key ignition cycles ( so you can't just get in vehicle and drive 200 miles). If the problem still existed after this then I must bring vehicle back in and they would perform the Torque Converter replacement. Since the fluid swap I haven't noticed any problems with the Shuddering and must say that it feels so smooth as I'm now able to accelerate without any lagging or hesitation. Thus far, this is the fix and I'm completely, happy about it. I've fallen back in love with my Chevy all over again.

Thanks for posting this, Matt. I had my TC changed in Dec 18 for a massive shudder issue and since then my TM seems to be consistently getting worse. The shudder hasn't returned (thankfully), but it really has all the symptoms of low TMF. Issues are similar to James Powell comments, but worse. The dealer has assured me twice that it's operating normally and there's nothing wrong. That can't be. I'm not a smart man (say it like Forest), but come on...I drive the truck 60+ miles a day. I know what I'm feeling and how it's acting. Will probably take it to AMMCO or something to do a flush and put the most current TMF in (came out two months after my TC change). Love the truck! Wish the TM wasn't such an issue. And I REALLY appreciate the info on the lift vs. warranty as I will be installing a 6" lift with new W/T in September. Keep up the great work. We all appreciate it.

@@Whatsherface511 Hi, Megan. The transmission shutter is a common problem with the 2nd gen Colorado unfortunately. That said, it's 100% covered by warranty. It's time consuming to repair, so you'd have to plan to be without your truck for maybe five days or so. My TC issues haven't returned. The transmission itself if operating fine. I installed a lift and 34" tires and that really smoothed things out. Also installed a Peddle Commander to get rid of the mushy throttle response and the truck operates really, really well now. Don't know much about the Tacoma, so can't provide an opinion on that or an available manual transmission for the Colorado. Bottom line, even with my previous TC issues, I've been super happy with my Colorado and would buy it again all things being the same.

Hey Matty, and Chevy Freaks Like Me. Well, my 2017 Chevy Colorado LT long bed four-wheel drive had and got that shimmy vibration that happened between 30 miles an hour to 65... I had the tires re-balanced twice but no go, still the vibration. Well, my whole torque converter is shot and they are actually rebuilding my transmission as I write. My truck has been in my dealership here in Portland for almost 2 weeks. My drivetrain insurance covered everything except a $200 deductible and they'd only covered six days of a rental car at $40 a day. So are you saying that this is an actual recall? In the morning between first and second gear it acts like it's in neutral for a second or two very frustrating!! I'm running 33 inch mud tires even when I had to stock tires when the RPMs are extremely low it can feel like a misfire or mild shutter. I'm really hoping at $290 to do a fluid swap it'll help!

For what is paid for these vehicles.
They should be backed by at least a 10 year 100000 mile bumper to bumper warranty. And they should run at least 250000 without any issues. Otherwise it doesn't pencil out especially,
If you have to wind up spending thousands in repairs.
    It's a no go.
    Maddening and inexcusable.

That it might not be in their best interest to fix something instead of nothing? i worked at a gm dealer for over ten years guys and i hate to tell you , its to their benefit to work on the car lol. You dont think they want to do warranty work ? realize that they get paid to do work on your car, not to send you home and tell you its fine. And anyone who might think a 6 inch lift kit and what look like tractor tires will not have a negative effect on ride, gear ratios and transmission should have their head examined. Do you still have your paper work on the 10,000 repair? Did they replace the torque converter or just do the flush and fluid replacement? Once you have the repair done again you should consider taking your truck to a transmission shop and have then add a bottle of Lubegard Platinum Transmission Protectant to your transmission fluid. They will have to drain off some fluid first and then add the Lubegard. Or you can do that yourself if you know how to.

My dealer flushed my transmission fluid without even test driving it Chevrolet has a new fluid made by mobile one that they use for the fix I would get that changed out because the stock fluid is the problem it causes moisture in the torque converter if you have to even pay for the fluid flush it’s not that expensive a couple hundred dollars
