I think the two options are great, just make sure you know what you are going to pick ... leveling kit is great, in my option , I would go for a bigger ..since you have to modify it anyway! but the leveling looks great with bigger tires! I love Justin's truck!
Awesome take on the meetup, Matt. It's really interesting how the same experience can be so different! Love the editing, man. We'll definitely meet up again in the future, it was an awesome time!
Big thank you to both of you for taking the time to create your channels, I watch them both! You guys help me out alot with picking and choosing mods for my 18 Colorado!! Nice rides!
I’m an about to do a middle of the road setup. I’m using the Bilstein 5100 shocks/struts system, that has 4 adjustable rings in the front. Where you use your stock springs, plus strut hats that are just fine. But like the rear shocks, that are slightly longer overall, but have the exact same length when collapsed, offer as much as 2” more hight and travel, front and rear. I still need to tow my 5,800 lbs travel trailer, that I use a good Weight Distribution Hitch. So I cannot use the entire 2” of lift, without using rear blocks or add a leaf. So the hitch weight leaves the truck with a slight rear hight bias, so I’m planning on a 1.5” setting, because the hitch weight drops the rear down about 1.5”, while empty there’s a 3” difference! So I should be totally level all hooked up. The best thing I’ve read about the Bilstein setup I’m using is the fact the front gets more suspension droop, but on the other hand will get an extra 1.5” of bump up travel, with much better an sensitive control at both ends. That will definitely help on and off road! As far as tires go, I will stay with the OEM 16” Alloy wheels, as I’m a firm believer that the taller the sidewall on your tires, they will give the best ride, on and off road! I can’t see why folks put those odd looking 20”+ wheels on off road trucks! Nothing bigger than 18”, on a 32” tire!! When the time comes, all I want is 265/75-16 tires, that will add just over 1” true clearance!!
Both trucks are awesome. I have had two full size lifted trucks both with eight inches of lift. I am really liking the look of these colorados. I have a 2019 zr2 now and love it. I have done a few things to my truck that was inspired by you. Being new to the mid size truck world and mods, you guys both have great channels with tons of info and cool content. Keep rocking out the videos 👍✌️
I’m personally going to put a leveling kit on my 2018 extended cab. My plan is to keep the stock WT rims because I love the steelie look but I’m upgrading the tires to 275s! And of course a flowmaster 40 series to compliment my Manual transmission.
This video was very helpful!! I have a z71 Colorado off road package. She’s all black with pink accents-pink bow ties and thin stripes going down the sides. I’m trying to do work on her and from another Colorado fan this gave me great ideas!
Just came across your video you made with HPO. and it’s good to see a Canyon & Colorado following out there. I like the black stripes and was curious where to purchase them for my 2019 Canyon.
Great video. I have the Duramax engine and get around 30 mpg.....this is the first mid-sized truck I've owned, always had 2500HD Duramax, so this was a big change for me. So far I like the truck. I'll be adding the 2 in leveling kit (not the blocks) with new tires and rims. Keep up the good work!
Both beautiful trucks!! Watch both of you! My set up is more like Justin's but have a few things that I've added because of ideas you've given like the bed cover, exhaust mod... I'd like to do the cold air intake and the lift eventually. Keep up the good work, good ideas.. I look forward to both your guys' videos!
So basically I drive my Colorado to and from work. I’ll drive outta town sometimes but not that much. I want to lift my truck because I live in Houston Texas and it floods quite a bit. How much should I lift my truck? A 6 in sounds good but is it good on gas? Or is 3-4in good? Please tell me your opinion. I also have 16in rims but I plan on getting 17in when I get my truck lifted.
Love your videos. Glad to see other people on UA-cam doing videos on Colorados gives me ideals for mine. Would love to meet up with either one of you guys
In lift kits you need to replace rims. Why is that? I have a 2015 CC Z71. I read that rims are required when doing lift. I have a zone leveling kit. I hate it because at 75mph starts shaking. Looking for lift
Have you guys had your torque converter replaced yet ?? The shake or shimmering could be that if it’s under a light throttle load at 45-55 mph . I had mine replaced under warranty just to give you guys a heads up! D
Just got my 2020 Colorado 4x4 V6 a few weeks ago. Tragically stock, but got 25.9 mpg on a 100+ mile trip last week. Did I baby it? A little, but it's not like I coasted down hills in neutral or anything, lol.
Nice guys, i' m already a follower for HPO. and never though that you will meet each other . Would love to meet as well, i was last summer in NJ, i'll come from CANADA for that .
Mentioning the gas mileage.... I got better gas mileage with installing the trifecta tune so that might be something you both could look into. And makes the truck more torquey too. Love watching both of your channels 👍👍
Matt 1003 yes, it’s super easy to do. When you pay for it online they will send you a link through the website with the file for the tune, and they will ship you a cable to plug into a laptop and then into your obd2 port. They have 3 different tunes, cheapest being for stock everything, middle priced one for bigger tires with stock motor, and highest priced tune for fully customizable. If you email them they will respond fairly quickly as well too. So far so good for me and I only have the basic tune.

Ask the service department at the dealership in your area what is best if you can’t get GM def. then run the brand they suggested as it’ll be available in your area. Keeping in mind you might only have to fill your DEF a few times a year. It apparently lasts about an oil change. The dash will tell you when you need to add more. Don’t add any until it actually tells you or you’ll end up with a partial jug and you don’t want that. When it’s opened it will start to crystallize when stored and then it’s garbage.
Yubor Castagneto as far as oil goes you I’d avoid Pennzoil other then that just make sure it’s Dexos2. Castrol makes a Dexos2 and is a good oil. Again just make sure it’s Dexos2. Never never never run Dexos1 Gen 2 thinking it’s the same. It’s not made for diesels and you can have engine, turbo and emissions problems for it. If you go somewhere to have your oil changed make sure to ask what oil they are putting in. Even ask the Chevy/GM dealer. Make sure it’s always Dexos2 or a compatible low ash diesel oil.
