The speed differential between these two aircraft mean that the Tomcat stands more of a chance to fire on the enemy carrier and also to fire and rearm and get back in the fight. You are not fighting the surface combatants and that could be all the difference in these engagements, also the local land bases play a big part.
if its possible in game, the super tomcat should be able to carry 8 aim 120s and 2 aim 9s at the same time since this config was tested in the 90s. or you can give us a super phoenix mod where what if USN keep on improving the AIM54 to make it roughly go double the range (100 miles to 200 or more). they did double amraam range in 25 years, no reason they cant make phoenix go further if they want to.

I suppose that if the new tomcat was stealthy, it may of been in the running. I guess with todays warfare methods stealth is the way to go to do those deep precision strikes. We can see in other scenarios that murder load out airframes are easily taken out by enemy long range missiles, but the stealth planes can return and rearm. No loss of pilots either.
If they were thinking of a 21st century version of the tomcat, I wonder if they were also thinking of a 21st century phoenix missiles… 200+ mile range phoenix anyone?
Great watch! Cap, is it possible to change the SM2 to replicate the SM6? The SM6 boasts extremely long ranges and can be data linked by aircraft to be guided to targets. These missiles are rather expensive and would likely only be spent on enemy aircraft and higher speed antiship cruise missiles. Allowing US ships to ward off enemy aircraft from 150 miles would change the battlespace greatly. Thanks, keep up the great work!
Yeah the AIM-54s after this resent update are really bad, armed the F-14 with 1x AIM-54A Mk.47 (due to the motor impulse changes and the burn time reduction on the Mk.60 motor, the Mk.47 motor is the best for long range shots) flew up to 44,000ft at mach 2, the new AIM-54s get to an abysmal 2,300kts at 68,000ft. That is only mach 4.0. Makes no sense seeing as mach 2 launch parameters should be definitely hitting the 4.3 mach that was spoken about in that congress meeting. I know the mach 5 number is heresay and 4.3 was the highest speed recorded but c'mon, mach 2.0 launch at 45,000ft only giving mach 4.0 is a little weird in my unprofessional opinion.
Did all the tomcats blowing up on the side of the ship count? I don't know if they were able to respawn as AI or not. But I remember at the beginning those planes were bowling up when they got close to the Carrier. So just wondering again if that had any impact on the attrition rate?
Awesome videos Super Cap! You’ve done so much to make these videos so realistic! I love the long range battles at sea because that’s more realistic. I don’t think you should change anything with your missiles. PL 15 has a max range of 85 miles and is close to the equivalent of AIM120D. The PL 21 and AIM 260 are roughly equivalent.
the PL-15E has 90 miles of range, but they are export version, countries like China and Russia with their R-77 usually downgrade the capabilities of their missiles for export.

That or I’m just appreciating these type of matches where real players are flying both sides. For example, pointing out the bearing to Matrix on request, giving Matrix your advice about the range of his missiles when he’s low, and the general warnings to players about incoming missiles. Giving (primarily) one side information on their opponents is bad sportsmanship

@@grimreapers Yeah I thought so, but it would be fun to see nevertheless even if it's going to be completely inaccurate. :D
hey cap remember in top gun maverick. where he blocks a missle shot with the su-57 he guned just before
I suppose that if the new tomcat was stealthy, it may of been in the running.
I guess with todays warfare methods stealth is the way to go to do those deep precision strikes.
We can see in other scenarios that murder load out airframes are easily taken out by enemy long range missiles, but the stealth planes can return and rearm. No loss of pilots either.
Just started to watch I have to say out of love for a beautiful air frame I really wish for the Tomcats to win
Simba wimba fan club checking in. Simba fastest pilot in GR.
Really enjoyed that little Intel factoid, nice.
Missed Opportunity for Cap to name his plane the Super TomCAP.
Maybe a good video idea: what is there was a naval f22
That would be badass I must admit.
One other thing about the Super Tomcat would have easier to maintain.
AST21 with HARM’s ?
PilotPhotog has digital models of the ST-21 what’s the chance you can also update the skin your your DCS models using that or similar data?
Just wondering if this mod is available? or just something Grim Reapers created and holding onto?
If they were thinking of a 21st century version of the tomcat, I wonder if they were also thinking of a 21st century phoenix missiles… 200+ mile range phoenix anyone?
PS: Does the PL-15 have datalink? Yes.
future of warfare: most cost efficient high precision guided amunition will win wars. i accept paypal lol
Awesome vid! Awesome commentary!
do a budget batlle maybe. 0.003% of gdp in airfraimes maybe. could be an interestig modelling of sustainable "warpower"
This will balance out The chinese launch in groups of four and the Americans launch in groups of......... 1
GR logic to the extreme.
It would be interesting to see how this stuff would work out if you could add ECM, such as Growler ... or even a Prowler.
The Chinese type Three only has 3 cats, thus they should have slower launch rate.
Working on it now but running into game problems.
wow clicked on 30 seconds after the post nice.
I know the mach 5 number is heresay and 4.3 was the highest speed recorded but c'mon, mach 2.0 launch at 45,000ft only giving mach 4.0 is a little weird in my unprofessional opinion.
how did you get the J-15 working the chinese aircraft mod doesnt work for me DCS crashes
We bodged the LUA to allow it to hook up.
I actually enjoyed watching the navel battle after watching the air battle!! didn't care for navy videos by them selves but like it when mixed
Did all the tomcats blowing up on the side of the ship count? I don't know if they were able to respawn as AI or not. But I remember at the beginning those planes were bowling up when they got close to the Carrier. So just wondering again if that had any impact on the attrition rate?
That not Super Tomcat ST21 that no have canard like F-18's canard?...That Tomcat EAVD( early advance Tomcat but the F-14D version? )
Super Cool!
The only fighter cooler looking than an F-14 was the F-4.
Coolest would have been the Avro Arrow, but reasons.
Wiki: "Operational range 200-300 kilometres (120-190 mi)(PL-15)[4][1][2][5]"
I used the lower end of the scale.
the PL-15E has 90 miles of range, but they are export version, countries like China and Russia with their R-77 usually downgrade the capabilities of their missiles for export.
Lol they're both (AIM-120D & PL-15) 100-120 miles! Lmao The AIM-260 JATM speed Mach 5 and has a range of 180 miles😆👍
Btw open source data used to say 200 miles for AIM-260 JATM! Lol just like The AIM-120D open source data used to say 120 miles lol they've both dropped and its really annoying and makes me wonder🤔
Huuuurrrraaaa!!!!❤ I don't have to ask, you just read my mind.
I’m really starting to like these overhead play by plays. I haven’t been watching this channel for long but your game commentating is getting better. That or I’m just appreciating these type of matches where real players are flying both sides. Either way, thanks for the content.
**I will say however, that your scenarios and matchups would be far more interesting if you weren’t giving one side useful information on the other. For example, pointing out the bearing to Matrix on request, giving Matrix your advice about the range of his missiles when he’s low, and the general warnings to players about incoming missiles. Giving (primarily) one side information on their opponents is bad sportsmanship
