The Flanker Struggle
Вставка
- Опубліковано 27 вер 2024
- So my boy Kamsa and I (later joied by Hellreign82 and Hotpocket) went on a struggle bus with the SU-33. We really wanted to do some good in a few places by taking off from the carrier and doing air to ground strikes. This however, proved to be far more difficult than we initially anticipated. The typical MP server setup just doesn't allow for the kind of strike that would be utilized by a flanker in the first place. So the whole episode, though long, will be mostly a lot of failures mixed in with some successes. It's a weird time, that's for sure.
If you're wondering what cockpit mod I'm using, then follow this link, make sure you get the appropriate version for the module want:

As for the RWR sounds, this is the RAE ralfi edit mod that you can find on the ED website user section. It might be outdated so use it at your own risk.

For those asking about the cockpit mod and sound mod, I have it all in the description.
Hope you guys are liking the video. I slaved away at it for a few weeks here and there.
What would you like to see next?
love that sound mod, same effects they use for jets in project reality aswell ;D
i always really enjoyed your review type videos. would love one, maybe on other games you play but don’t talk about much on the channel
As a joking response, could you sit by a fire and read us an entire aircraft manual? It’d be good learning, and perfect for going to bed with that damn fine voice.
In seriousness, perhaps some other reviews/gameplay of other games you have interest in and find yourself coming back to.
I'd love to see some viper strikes
Nice video man`,) btw rockets impact point computer requires pitch down 45 to 30 degrees minimum to work correctly. Less angle than that is not allowed for soviet pilots `,)
When Ralfi does videos in Russian aircraft, it’s pretty much exactly how I imagine they occur in real life.
needs more hardbass and swearing.
Cringe
They just doing bullshit on unfamiliar aircrafts, that doesn't even have PFM
@@bogey_dope_ae Su-33 has had a PFM for over 5 years already. Mig-29 was the very last non-PFM/AFM aircraft in DCS iirc, and that was upgraded back in 2018.
Naah the Russian planes are too busy getting shot down over Ukraine lol.
Ralfi in an inverted leaf stall: "I'm never going to aerodynamically recover from this."
When you're taking off from the Carrier, there is a "Special Afterburner Mode" (only the SU-33 has this option), which according to the manual, it will boost your take off with an extra 5-ish% thrust over of the maximum Afterburner. You must hold the "Wheel Brake Start" button (it's not the same as the normal "Wheel Brake On" with W, it's a stronger brake that's able to hold you in place even in lower Afterburner stages), throttle full afterburner and when you see the two green AB lights near the RPM go on, press that Special Afterburner button and a third green light will turn on in the panel below the Engine Exhaust Temperature gauges.
Also, after you've got your engines on and ready to go, pressing L_Alt + i will toggle the engine intake fences between Auto and Down. The manual says this also gives you some minor thrust boost, although I have NO IDEA how so... 🤔 I just use it anyways, just in case... 😁 When the fences are up, you should see the green lights on the Gear, Flaps, Hook and Speedbrake indicator.
Usually, when I take off from the carrier, I defuel the aircraft to 50% (this should be enough to take off from the forward positions without problem), get my usual payload, and the first thing I do when I'm airborne is to go for the tanker (assuming there is one available, and it's not flying over enemy territory 🙄) and get my fuel back to start the mission.
The intake fence being down gives more uninterrupted airflow, even though its a tiny amount, its that couple percent efficiency you may need for the extra thrust. Its a super common problem with drones and any kind of guarding around the props, or grilles over EDF intakes. A clever solution, though obviously its one more mechanical part to maintain over a static mesh grille or "fence"
"You returned 12Kg of fuel", I'm sure that'll be put to good use
Best dcs content creator
Yeah, no doubt he's the best
Fact
Don't worry ralfi, my unnaturally short attention span has always hyperfocused on aircraft
PREACH
Man I think you just have autism
the power of AUTISM
I absolutely love these longer form videos, hopefully this one gets good viewer retention so you're encouraged to make more
Seconded, I love longer form stuff. Please don't feel like you have to cut out "boring" segments of un-dramatic flying. Apparently the Almighty Algorithm, hallowed be its beneficence, is trending towards long-form videos currently as well, so it may help get the videos more exposure.
Best part is knowing Hellreign is still kickin'
In the infamous word of SKINNY PETE, "CHURCH....YO!!!"....
Yep! He was the biggest reason why i got into dcs way back in 2016 or so. Legend :D
4:16 PPL holders' attention just spiked to 100%
"I'm the schmuck that dumb fired my heater"
In case you haven't had the revelation yet, the reason your first rocket attack missed the CCIP completly. It uses radar alt for the range trigonometry and you were flying over terrain a fair bit higher than your target.
I mean, we know, normally western radar equipped CCIP jets use their actual radar for ranging, not sure how the Russian jets actually do it, but in-game they do it poorly.
My favorite part about the 33 is that you can turn the engines to "11" for launch
Ha! Nato still use afterburner? Glorious Cyxoи use afterafterburner for years now.
@@thrashermosher419the super secret set the engine on fire third stage afterburner, doubles as an IED, standard in the russian air forces
i am a simple man, i see ralfi video, i like.
i see a looooooooonnngggg ralfi video. i like, get snacks and strap in for the entertainment and leave comment.
Same.
We might not be the average UA-cam user, but we are a strong Ralfi-following 😄
You can do a fully loaded takeoff with the Su-33, long takeoff run, especial afterburner, no intake door and the carrier needs to be moving at 10 knots minimum
Bold to assume the kuznetsov is ever moving 10 knots considering it usually is powered by a tugboat.
Nice to see some realistic and standard Admiral Kutznetsov operating procedures
I absolutely LOVE the longer videos Ralfi, don't ever stop.
The SU33 is my favourite Russian DCS bird. I love flying off and landing on the carrier. Happy to see you give her some airtime!
You, Sir, are one of my favorite creators on UA-cam right now. I've been on a DCS trip for over a year now and your content around the game is probably the most entertaining I've seen until now!
you said you dont like videos this long... but i think this is exactly the type of videos we NEED.
tis my 6th time watching this one.
New Ralfi video! Thank you for making these, man, I really enjoy them and they always brighten my day. Cheers!
Sees new ralfidude video, instantly clicks with the force of Hulk.
i like how the carrier casually gave you'r jet a slap on the rear for good luck. if the previous takeoff has any implications added to the meaning of it, i could understand why.
Im always so happy to see a ralfi video popping up! Love your content! :)
After having flown the SU33 myself, I can say with confidence Ralfi, that the SU33 doesn't get enough love. That ACS mode's also a mean thing to contend with when you don't expect it.
A fresh Ralfi upload is always a wonderful day. I may not play DCS myself(yet), but I’d say Ralfi’s one of the best DCS guys out there uploading his great missions… and the collection of calamities like this video!
Keep it up Ralfi!
SU-33 is probably the most underappreciated modules in DCS imo.
15:40 that was a masterful eject
Video was perfect, from the best cobra maneuver ever achieved to an amazing return at the end!
So many deaths, but ending with a happy landing against the odds makes it all worth it.
Brilliant video Ralfi, I stayed to the end. Those last minutes, low on fuel and running from those hostiles, that was tense. Perfect fuel planning.
Back in ye olde days of Lock On MAC, I preferred the Su-33 Flanker D over the Su-27 Flanker B. I don't know why, but I flew the 33 quite a bit and I hardly touched the 27.
You can just audibly hear Ralfi's butt unclench as his wheels touched down on that runway at the end.
A dangerous move with HotPocket around, but understandable considering the circumstances.
This could be its own Shits and Giggles episode.
This is actually a documentary as to where all the 33's have gone
i dont know this game, i dont know you, but this video was a nice watch, really enjoyed it
When you land at base with 0 pounds of fuel left.....
Right before all the retaliatory cruise missiles level the base.
Been watching your stuff for years, absolutely love your content. Keep it up!!
I have no Idea who you are but this video is sick so please make more lol
WOW, that ending! 😃 COLD-BLOODEDLY CALCULATED!
Great video 😀😁😂🤣! The Su-33 is a fighter I fly more and more these days - shipping strikes are awesomely good fun.
Awesome video Ralfi!! Always love your editing style!
ill always watch to completion and i miss your shits and giggles videos
Watched every minute
Good fun bud
Thanks bud, when your next video huh?
HUH?!?!
@@ralfidude Soon™/2 more weeks?
Thanks for the video and the many learnings you've given me over these months.
if I had to explain to someone what ralfidude videos are like, I would propably show them the meme about the dog inside a burning house saying "this is fine" while putting on some uplifting jazz music
I kind of love the SU-33.
Mostly because I have PTSD with it and I'm fairly certain I've become some twisted freak of a PTSD masochist because of it.
it is good day when ralfi posts
the flanker D is one of my favorite air craft to fly in dcs, w vid
Lol loved this - btw I still remember your posts and content back from the freefalcon days - weve all come a loooooooong way
I'm really digging the jazz in the background
My dude out there using the Agean Ghost paint scheme, nice

Could be you're within the minimum range. With radar-guided systems, if you're within a minimum range, they just can't fire at you. Leading to the hilarity that an S-400 could probably blow you out of the sky at 20 miles while you're flying within the tree-tops yet it wouldn't be able to engage you if you were doing circles literally right above it.
I love the su33.
It's cool.
Btw please make more long video's like this.
10 mins ago i was wondering when Ralfi was gonna upload again, 9 mins ago he uploads, speak of the Devil
I'm assuming that he figures it out later in the vid as im typing this at the start. Your wingman's plane is the J-15, the Chinese version of the SU-33, that's why it has Chinese markings.
Thanks for editing all the shit out that has no action or whatever, makes the content 10x better than other dcs content creators
Ah, the Kuznetsov, which only really works in videogames.
As always, love the choice of music!
39:40 "You returned 12KG of Fuel."
really wish the SU-33 was a complete full fidelity module or any flanker like the Su-30 even if it was an export variant.
Same here an full fidelity su33 with its ground radar and send capabilities would be dope as shit
"You returned 12KG of fuel"
Thank you for your many many sacrifices comrade
The Su33 actually was my first module in the game that I purchased. i wanted to have the carrier capabilities combined with A/A and A/G without spending 60 bucks on the F18
Was it worth the money?
Longer DCS videos are the best videos, the tendancy for UA-cam creators to make shorter and shorter stuff is sad. Long form content ftw!
That MFD mod is lookin pretty slick
bro nice landing there in the end!
Love the long form vids even though they're such a pain to make for you
If that can help, do not activate the intakes grids on the PA, and as soon as the burners kick in, activate immediatly the special burner, then release the brakes.
Do not forget to pull the stick at about 30% while on the tremplin.
With that, you can take off fully loaded from the third position.
Oh and by the way, I loved this video! ❤
Aim to 15 degrees AoA at take off
GREAT to read and see HellReign82 still being...well....HR82...if only he had "BOB" with him.... Great Video!!!
Totally not me watching this vid 3 minutes at a time while starting up the su27 (i keep crashing)
the su 33 was my first plane, I DONT REGRED IT. it is so much fun to flight the only downssite for me is the low fuel cappacity with 1 or 2 fuel tanks i would marry this plane
Well it has roughly the same amount of fuel as a F15 with fuel tanks... Dunno how much more fuel in it you want XD
@@KingMen1Force you sure about that ?
@@bounty_3589 Well i did say roughly since the F15 has some big ass fuel bags but the difference is about 2000kg or 4400lbs of more fuel for the F15 with 3 bags. Clean tho the Flanker has around 3000+kgs or 6600+lbs more. Seriously tho as long as you dont use AB mindlessly you wont have a fuel problem with those jets.
Try the mig-29 lol
Is Ralfi using a modded cockpit? Cause that looks hella detailed
2:49, its been years since ive heard this word used like this. it was just another word for lame back in the day.
lmao i wish missles actually made that sound, weeeeeee. so funny
seeing casual shit like this makes me more exited to start playing
I'm a simple man, I hear bing chilling, I press 我喜欢.
10:14 evil gru type laugh got me dyinn
ok the rwr in this thing sounds better than su27 so its a win
Use to come with an anti ship missile between the engines when it was LOMAC.
OMG! LOMAC! I remember buying the first CD back then 😃
after having played Su-27 Flanker back and forth 🤣
"possible pilot deviation"
I'm dead dude
I’m the “probably you” guy: Nailed it. See ya.
I dont think we dont like long videos we actually do like themm more dcs vids pleasee hehe
accurate documentary, 100% would recommend
Absolutely fantastic video, thank you!
I did not know how bombs worked in the su's until you dropped them.
How does the flanker cockpit look that good ? Awesome video btw
My attention span may be short, luckily I can turn this on on the second screen while I keep dying on the ECW server.
Me personally I am a sucker for longer videos!
It's good to know that everybodys gamesessions have the same issues that we do lmao
I used to play FC3 all the time, so I had a sneaking suspicion something was wrong when your CCIP wasn't working. I did some testing, and it turns out all the CCIP systems are broken in the FC3 aircraft. They don't seem to take in any terrain altitude at all, only using barometric altitude for some reason.
I doubt this is any foul-play by ED. It is probably just another piece of old code that needs maintenance, but it is annoying.
that is a cool cockpit, who makes it? i love the english cockpits for the redfor planes. game changer!
did the su-33 get a graphics update or something? Looks 100 times better than the f-15 cockpit.
1:36 RIP Yuri
UNDERRATED AF UA-cam CHANNEL
Damn, those three F-15C pilots must've been beating themselves over that failure. They had the altitude, power, and position and they completely botched it trying to do a nose-to-nose dive. Scrubs.
Low fuel momenty was TENSE
What cockpit mod are you using? Because I don't remember the SU-33 looking so krispy on the inside
My biggest question is why no R-27ER
Could this day get any better?... 🥰👍🏻👏🏻🍻🍻
That’s until you equip 6 S-25s and realize it’s 2 more than the Su-27 and that there’s still 2x more room for bombs
Very chunky boi
Nice recover, tax payer will kiss your hand for this!
Eagerly waiting for that next video ralf
