Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League has the deck stacked pretty high against it. I didn't see anything to make me think that this will thrive as a live service, but as a one-and-done campaign experience, I'm actually pretty keen for this one.

Remember the days when if a developer wanted to get more money out of the customer after purchasing a single player game, they would come out with a story expansion for $15-$30? I miss those days.
We all do.
Cut million dollar CEOs from most gaming companies, and we could have that again ..
We’ll never get this again because the general population showed developers how much more money they can earn for way less time and effort. We failed the test lol

The list of great single player studios who have been wasted making live service garbage was seriously depressing. So many great games we could have had in the last 5-6 years.
How is it garbage? Just because something is live service doesn’t make it garbage. I’m glad they tried something different, we got 4 Arkham games that shit was getting dry
That’s the part that irks me. We all know these Studios can make GREAT single player experiences, but the higher ups do not give a single fuck nor have experience with gaming. Wasting potential left and right. Then people wonder why Studios get depreciated..

Imagine the excitement there would have been if Rocksteady had made a single player Superman/Flash/Wonder Woman/etc game. Everyone and their dog would have been buckling in for another legendary beginning to a new superhero trilogy. Instead we hear the collective groan of the gamer conscious.
what depresses me more about this is that unlike a regular game that bombs and the studio moves on to a different thing, Rocksteady will likely try to support this game for a few more years (live service and all), which means, we aren't getting a quality Rocksteady project for a long time.

@@UndyingHatred_ Man, my condolences. It must've been really hard 4 days for you.
@@humanandhalf4118 It hasn’t actually, but thanks for asking :)
It's hard to tell from all the trailers, but it seems really bizarre to me that each character doesn't have gear centred around their identity - baseball bats for Harley Quinn, boomerangs for Captain Boomerang, etc. You could have something like plated teeth for King Shark and wrist guns for Deadshot. By all means, give them a basic arsenal of weapons, but make the main focus on their class-centric weapon of choice.
They do actually have gear centred around their identity, for example harley does get different bats and deadshot has different writst cannons, however it is very much a looter 'shooter' so the melee doesnt do much
@@SillyRizThe melee is one of the worst melees I’ve ever used in a game, I can’t believe Rocksteady tried to claim that it’s a shooter-brawler “hybird”
"It's hard to tell from all the trailers, but it seems really bizarre to me that each character doesn't have gear centred around their identity"
I mean it literally does.
this is my biggest issue with the game. it just looks like a generic live service shooter with DC character skins. they could literally insert anyone in there, like have aquaman or green arrow fly around in a jetpack with a bazooka. it's just stupid and completely ruins the fantasy of playing as these characters, which i'd argue is the only reason to play a licensed game like this.
Amen
The story sounds pretty cool, can't wait to watch all the cutscenes on UA-cam for free

Gonna do the same thing, there is a thing called game movie, in which they blend the cutscenes and the gameplay dialogue parts and skip unnecessary parts. Watched spiderman 2 and god of war ragnarok like that as I don't have a playstation. I think it is better than just watching the cutscenes.
As someone who played the beta I can confirm the story is the best part. The combat was tedious as you had to constantly move around and since it relies on a combo system it only really works when enemies are clustered. The itemization is awful. It's basically Crackdown in the DC universe.
The good old “We know what you want, you don’t know what you want”.

Man, it is so daunting watching that clip of multiple guns swapping out in the character's hands. It's like the developers gave up on researching the characters abilities and just put a bunch of guns in their hands. So weird.

@frostbite2179 I feel like I worded my comment wrong. I don't mind the characters using guns, but it's more the STYLE of the guns. Instead of the weapon designs and styles being attached to the characters, they look like generic guns from COD, so seeing them in their hands is downright weird.
This game just has "wait for sale" all over it. And I'm definitely fine waiting.

No way mofos are going to appreciate Avengers when that game literally died.
The singleplayer was decent, it was the post-game and everything else that was bland.
Theres ZERO chance this will be a successful live service
7+ years in development? I mourn the opportunity cost
King Shark... famously known for shooting guns.
Imagine if every character had unique gameplay so you could have like 4 different playstyles... Harley playing like Bayonetta with baseball bat and guns, King Shark being this tanky demolisher, deadshot as classic tpp shooter/sniper guy, and boomerang using his main weapon to do mid range aoe attacks and dodges/teleports.
But no... they just have guns.
I still reckon this is being blown out of proportion. I mean look at it more as the Titan/Hunter/Warlock setup in Destiny. Yeah they can all use guns, but they’re defined by their abilities and ultimates to make them stand out.
It’s the same here, guns are just a way to charge the abilities which define the characters.
@@Evanz111 They’re still basically the same character. Sure they got different abilities, but look to play the same. It’s so generic and bland.
You just turned Suicide Squad into Evolve, which actually isn't a terrible idea since they are up against monsters 😄

He didn’t love it though, but he found some things he likes such as the single player campaign. He doesn’t see how the live service will work which is the main focus of the game.
Hardly a full endorsement.
Goddamnit. This looks like it could have been an absolutely fantastic multi-character suicide squad game. I'm 100% certain that the guns and other shallow gameplay elements are there because of the live service mandate.
This just gives me even more appreciation for that Guardians of the Galaxy game. That thing exceeded all of my expectations and I have pretty much nothing bad to say about it. They should have just copied that games formula.
I still need to play that, but it looks pretty vanilla to me. Can you sell me on it?
@@greengraciano6846It's kind of like a AAA TMNT game, but you only control Star Lord (Leonardo). It's got fun gunplay and movement, but it's also got a really good story.

@@greengraciano6846 bro i'm 17 hours into it and i gotta say, it's definitely one of my favorite games of 2023, in a time where every single game is an open world with RPG elements, it is really fucking refreshing to see an honest, passionate, linear experience with amazingly written characters and story, it's been a while since i've liked a game's story as much as i like this, and the presentation is top notch too, really beautiful, tbh it just feels like a great, no bullshit, no microtransaction game with a lot of heart in it, and it really feels like a journey with these characters
@@greengraciano6846 it is vanilla. The combat feels very basic but the characters are fun. Similar to Suicide Squad I guess
@greengraciano6846 People will debate about the combat/mechanics all day. I personally loved it. Had the game been too long the combat might have overstayed its welcome, but i thought it was paced perfectly.
When it comes to the story though, theres no comparing it to suicide squad. They knew the characters very well and did justice to how they are in the comics/movies. It got to the point where near the end, they were becoming my definitive versions of the guardians in my head.
If you enjoy the movies/comics at all, its definitely a story worth experiencing at least once.
Even with all the praise Ralph mentioned here, I just can't ignore the fact that all that player has been doing in this gameplay is shoot that pink/purple thing on enemies. If that's all there is to it in terms of combat I just can't get into this game no matter how fun it is for others, hope it has something else to offer apart from that.

It is insane to me that this game is based around guns instead of melee combat. The funniest part is that by giving all of the characters guns, you undermine Deadshot's entire character fantasy. More than that, Rocksteady has always specialized in satisfying and rewarding melee combat. What in the actual hell were they thinking when making this game? They took almost all of their own strengths and just decided "Nah, I'mma do my own thing".
Correct none of the characters but dead even use guns. Harley should be all about knock off joker gag weapons, and bats ect. Making this game a shooter is stupid.
"Nah, I'mma do - not-* my own thing"
cant have a looter shooter game without there being guns
Rocksteady's first game was a third person shooter. Y'all Rocksteady to do the same exact game with just a different paint job.
It's like they gave a 6 yr old a box of crayons.
I was hoping for Street Fighter lvl crunchy combat and character models. In a open city set in the classic retro 50-60s erra mafia art style.
Instead of guns being the loot, it should have been superpowers.
Suicide Squad harvesting powers from other heroes and villains, perfectly meshing with Wallers idea of throwing supers into a meatgrinder until something works.
Damnit that’s such a better idea
I think based on the interview that’s essentially true…you just have to shoot to use them. Kind of like Tiny Tina with the spells
Love the idea of this being a separate universe and the four characters you play are some of the last villains they have. You end up looting from PAST Suicide Squad attempts, the stronger members dying later in the game to further progression feeling. This would've been a fantastic game with that in mind, dude
Just the fact that they didn't base the game around their archetypes is mind blowing. The only reason I can kind of make sense is because of boss fights. It would be awkward as say king shark being melee to contribute to someone like green lantern flying around. This game is definitely dying.
A the boys game……..
Sweet baby inc. strikes again.
Skill up praises their writing. Once again
See “didn’t hate it” sounds like a recipe for disaster if I’m stuck with “didn’t hate it” for 40+ hours
Remember, Shill Up hated Lost Judgement...
so even with SkillUp being overly positive about looter shooters (like Destiny) and finding ways to praise/defend them despite all the issues ppl have, at best he could only scrounge things to say that this is just a mediocre looter shooter. "I didn't hate it" is not a ringing endorsement, and with how saturated the live service market is, a mediocre at best new game is not going to cut it.
So ya, this game is going to bomb
As if you listen to this clown’s perspective of video games lmfao decide for ya self these yt clowns are nothing
"I didn't hate it" translates to me as "wait till it's at least 50% off if you REALLY want it"
There are more worthy games for my time and money.
Summed up my thoughts. The whole first few minutes is apologetics for looter Shooters and that sometimes some of them are okay.
Good to know that a lot of us understand where Skill Up lies on these, he has his bias, but once again, there being 50+ live service games all active at the same time means people can better spend their time elsewhere. Especially when some of them are F2P, who TF is going to pay for this & not get an Anthem 2.0?
THIS
i don't get why "influences"/media outlets don't just say its trash and not to buy
"open mind" doesn't mean give a pass or optimistic outlook to predatory psycholgically addiction driven live service dark pattern design games, its strange the fear to just calling it out or be labeled as "didn't even play it/give it a chance/went in with a negative mindset

"Its a good thing that the story telling and presentation is good as they are", do we tell him or let him find out....
Oh he knows.
“This story is so mismanaged.” -Skill Up
It looks like it could have been a Decent single player game but they ruined it changing it into a live service
Precisely
Old Rocksteady is gone, would've been mediocre either way, live-service just makes it worse.
As always
Live Service games are a cancer. Thanks for that Fortnite.
Whether it’s good or not doesn’t matter. I’m sticking to my one full priced game per month self discipline, and for February I’m buying Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. I’ll grab this when I see a sale.
Just curious not trying to judge.
After years of bad news, delays, ugly UI, community sentiment against live services and the most recent marvel game similar being Marvels Avengers (which was awful) why are you still excited for this? Like I said not trying to judge I just can't fathom the mind person who sees and hears everything around this game and still thinks "yeah that's worth my money"
Even Rocksteady don't want to make this so I'm curious about who wants to buy it. When it does arrive I hope you really enjoy it bud, I'm not trying to say that people shouldn't 😊
@@LordBathtub there's been like 3 Marvel games since Avengers. It's not the most recent.
That's fair and a good point. I don't really care too much about the $$ but moreso where I want to spend my limited free time.
FF7 rebirth takes that place, easily. Maybe Ill check this out later when its on sale later down the line when I have time.
@casthedemon I can think of the Guardians of Galaxy game now that you mention it, any others are escaping me.
Besides that, can you answer any of my other half a dozen points?
@@LordBathtub there's Midnight Suns, Miles Morales, and Spiderman 2 as well.
And no I wasn't addressing your other points. Fuck this game. I'm not wasting my money.
So basically it should have been a single-player, narrative driven game
What sucks even more is the greedy execs taking good 1-player studios, make them do live service, it fails (because let's be honest, live service is a great genre but it has a finite fan base while the rest of us are not interested in touching it with a 10-foot pole). And when it fails - the execs punish the studio, disband it or sack employees. Thus forever robbing all of us to see another game that they were actually great at making.
It's like World of Warcraft. There is ZERO sense making a WoW killer unless you can guarantee it can be bigger and better than wow in every area, OR that it offers something unique that doesn't even compete with WoW at all (like story in ffxiv or class fantasy of GW). Because even if you make WoW-equivalent - people will not switch from WoW easily because their friends and character investment keeps them there.
Execs just don't get it. They think that making a Live Service game is easy money, and it really, REALLY isn't.
“I didn’t hate it” Sounds like a ringing endorsement! Time to get your wallets out boys! 😂😂😂
Time to bleed that 70 for the corpo slop, first season pass has a model for Harley where the scan Phoebe Waller-Bridget's face and for Poison Ivy they actually scanned Greta Thumberg's face too! What a great value proposition!
@@Saint_Wolf_ Your examples are weird but the message is sort of there. Good job!
@@Saint_Wolf_ moment of silence to those who have already pre ordered
@@BassPlayer9000 If they can't read conjuncture to realize that you don't pre-order live service games… then maybe that's something they did upon themselves
@@Saint_Wolf_this game really brings out the freaks huh
I appreciate giving Rocksteady the benefit of the doubt here, but that overall game loop you described sounds utterly dull, the on-screen "shoot purple blob" gameplay speaks for itself, and your assessment of the combat and weapons was pretty damning too. I've just started Monster Hunter World with some friends, watched your review yesterday, and the way that you spoke about that game's gameplay variety and combat finesse, how each and every weapon felt masterfully fine-tuned and unique, compared to this title with its "flashy" combat and generic weaponry, is beyond night and day. I just don't see what's stopping gamers from just watching this game as a cutscene compilation or let's play, if all it has to offer as a live-service is a well-presented story and good performances. I feel like the comparisons to Marvel's Avengers and Gotham Knights, both of which you also tepidly praised over story content but critiqued over gameplay frustrations, may end up being this game's fate. I guess we can only see how it all plays out.
Most if not all of the Talented people which where part of Rocksteady and where working on the Arkham Series left, so no clue why someone would defend their "Talent".
Shill Up
If the main story is as good as Guardians of the Galaxy, I would have no problem buying just for the campaign.
even then it wouldn't be worth it
not buying mtx doesn't mean it doesn't have an effect on you psychologically with dark pattern design
never worth it
Don't worry, it won't be.
If Suicide Squad had've been make like Guardians of the Galaxy with drop in co-op it would been far better recieved by the fans.
Problem is people who played say for every 10 minutes of cool story driven mission you have 2 hours of mundane grind.
@@D4rkKn1ght311 yup
The live service announcement was definitely disappointing, but it was when they actually showed gameplay that my interest almost entirely fell off. I have not seen one second of gameplay that looks fun.
Shill Up Returns: Shill Harder
Im so happy to see Avengers get the bit of praise it deserves for the things it did right.
RIP ROCKSTEADY. Suicide squad didn’t just kill the justice league but killed you too
Hated Assassins Creed Valhalla, Mirage and Far Cry 6. Didn’t hate Suicide Squid. What???
Morgan Freeman: He did, in fact, hate it.
Appreciate you putting rhe advertising at the end of the video instead of disrupting the content. Because of this, I watched the add. 😊
I get it's almost impossible to defeat the justice league but the way I'd see it happening is the fight is wearing them down and they get enough self control back in their mind to actually allow the suicide squad to kill them off.
Only way they could justify it, but still the story is contrived as possibly could be. This Suicide Squad just isn’t on the Justices league level anyway with who they on the team and there is no way to spin it that could make it believable that they could. I mean your shooting the Flash with guns come on really or is it at best it going to be some loon tune trap set that use to beat him. Just unreasonable levels on buy in for the story to work.
Wonder woman is not controlled by brainiac and if I'm not mistaken in one of the trailers we see that it's her that takes down the flash@@kenpachiramasama1139
I played the same build as Skillup in December, he's right that the gameplay is not terrible, but there will always be in the back of my mind "what other game could they have made during this time" that's gonna tank my possible enjoyment of this game.
I would spend $40 on this just to see the Arkhamverse continued
Looks like a story better watched as a movie or show than a game to be played.
There's simply too many good games in my back catalog to spend time on a game who's highest praise is "I didn't hate it".
All that needs to be said
sponsored by WB lmao
I really hope something as unique as the batman mission is what we can expect from all the boss fights
I'm looking forward to watching all the cut scenes on UA-cam
They didn't let you go to the press event when you happened to reach out because you were in town to me says there's mismanagement at that company on every level. It's just funny, and really sad at the same time.
I find it kind of interesting theorizing how all this must have happened. My theory is that in 2018 or so, the live service market exploded and every single company shifted to making live services. Now that the genre has grown saturated at such an astronomical rate, I suspect there will be a scramble to get back out of the market, kind of like what happened with sony.
It's funny seeing how slowly things move in these corporations. Sony saying just a couple of months ago that they were going all in on live services was so incredibly tone deaf and outdated that I couldn't believe it. Same vibe as SquareEnix claiming NFTs were the future.... in mid 2023
You know Warner Bros. has a perfect live service IP.... GOTHAM CITY IMPOSTORS
Guns felt samsie? Know what’ll fix that? You guessed it, folks… SKINS FOR EVERYONE (only $6.99 each)
Aged like fucking milk. 2 weeks out in the open and it went bad
*reads title*
*lifts eyebrow*
Suicide squad kills rocksteady
Imagine if they made a Justice League game and the core members all used guns.
I think what also makes me sad is that awhile ago, Rocksteady was rumored to have a Superman video game in the works after they ended the Batman: Arkham series. Seeing this game be set in Metropolis is just another reminder that we're never gonna get that Superman game that could have been something great
I feel like a few years ago I was more open to games like this. Games that aren’t great but are pretty good. After playing games like Elden Ring, Baldur’s Gate 3, RE4 Remake, and the original Silent Hill trilogy, I really am not looking for just okay. There are too many great games new and old to play that there really just isn’t time to play average games.
I’ve been a fan of SU for a long time but when the ShillUp memes become true it shakes me how off the mark he’ll be sometimes. The one thing he liked was some of the biggest gripe with the fans lol
A Superman game would've done justice
Batman's combat was not original. It was from the very first Assassin's Creed.
