Funny thing, around 1:04:00 of the video he uses Bubble Trouble, when that shouldn't have dealt damage cause it doesnt have the Same Space Hexagon highlighted.
So I just bought this and played it. But got through a board game store sale (unopened) and there were only enough tokens for someone to have 3 shadow shards so is 3 the max you can get in a turn?
I think Joe could have caused a 4 way draw. Move, use the big spell to hit everyone else for 5 killing Fredo (Fredo survives due to bubble shield), then do 3 damage to Matt, putting the everyone at: Matt (4hp), Fredo (2hp), Trevor (1hp) and Joe (3hp)... then 4 shadow for his skill blows everyone up. I think he was missing a gem to do that... but he could have tanked the curses and rerolled twice to try and get that last gem.
Haven't played the game but pretty sure Joe always didn't read the cards. When he moved into fredo's space to attack him towards the end he bubble trouble'd Fredo but the card they showed on screen bubble trouble couldn't hit the same square you're on so Fredo tech should have had more health.
You all need to play this again with 6 people with that expansion, this was so fun to watch!

Played this with a friend and it was a blast! Was able to grab a spell to turn my bad luck into resources.
“Play as animal mages” but there’s no shark mage for Matt… I’m slightly disappointed, it would have been so perfect
