On the beer shot, another way to get the line of bubbles is to make a small etch in the bottom of the glass container. Look at a Sam Adams glass sometime. You'll see an etched circle at the center of the bottom of the glass, creating a collection point for the CO2, and a plume of bubbles coming right up the center of the beverage.
These practical application vids are just fantastic. Even when I don’t have the budget to compete with the upper level gear etc., you’re still revealing the concepts and thought processes behind the setups and decisions. I’m able to scale down a concept and either offer value to a client or simply learn by reproducing with what I can get m hands on. Way to go!
You keep uploading these awesome episodes man. People seriously underestimate how hard it is to light metallic surfaces and have to worry about the reflections! Great episode.
Really great to have the perspective of a top pro in the field on these types of things. Kazu has unknowingly become my virtual mentor as I try out these ideas and set-ups during lockdown...
I already praised your cinematography videos many time in the comments section. But I wanted to say how nice it is to insert really well chosen excerpts of illustrative videos for concept like pneumatic machine or whatever. I'm sure it takes some times to find and edit them, and it add a lot of value to yours videos. Especially when specific technical aspects are discussed. Anyway,
My request was herd! Loving the tasty tips on lighting cars! Thanks Ted! We need more! Maybe on lighting and shooting moving vehicles? Maybe on motorcycles. ;) keep up the good work! Really enjoy all your videos!
I love your videos. Learn so much. Maybe for the next remote one, you can cover editing. Like not how to use PP or FCP, but techniques on editing different close ups, medium, wide shots etc. like how to choose what shots to use...what makes a good or bad one. Basically, the art of editing. TIA!
Any word on when the Aputure 600D is supposed to be coming out? I know covid-19 has delayed things for Aputure a bunch. I've been waiting to pull the trigger on the 600D since last September's announcement, but I may have to go with Nanlite's Forza 500 since it is available now and the final version of 600D hasn't even been released yet.
depends on the shot and set. either they are hanging with wires to be removed in post or a rod mounted from below/under/behind/side, whatever side is the least obstructive to the shot and cleaned up in post
If Ted had a better quality image I feel like it would kind of overshadow the guest, it seems respectful to have the same setup. Don't know if it's his reason though
@@mariolesergent4629 Is that how you feel when you watch TV? Coz it's a pretty standard format to have a host in a studio and someone remote who may even be calling in through Skype.
@@riparianstudios I don't think you can compare the two, this show is way more personal, with one-on-one interviews focused on the guest and their work, whereas on the news it's oftentimes a small interview within a story.
@@kazuokuda3410 Thanks for the reply. My comment was just sarcasm at the way other people on UA-cam always add links to gear used. Thanks for a very informational video although, from the looks of it, most of the gear used was not even in my ballpark price range but it should be fun trying to DIY gear to get the shot. Love the lighting, Kazu. Inspiring and super nice to hear how you did it!
I knew these shots were going to be deceptively difficult, but DAMN...
I really appreciate when you guys bring out Kazu, really awesome getting to learn from someone like him.
Love that you’re still making these!

how are such simple shots blowing my mind.
the thing is in filmmaking today there is nothing easy anymore

This was AWESOME! Fascinating behind-the-scenes overview.
Great video - I could keep watching more of this. Love knowing the insider information of shooting commercials. Please do more.

These videos are so valuable! Keep this up, you guys rock!
There's so many lights I would never even think about, love it. Pumped to try out some of these techniques, but in a more indy way i guess..
I have no interest in shooting commercials, yet this was wildly entertaining to watch
Insane! Thank you for doing this
We need more of these
Awesome video thank you. What is the overhead light called with the honeycomb type filtering??

Woah! This was so fun to watch. Thanks 🔥
these videos are GOLD
Great video! Super informational! Thank you for posting. Learned a ton!
Insane ! Great learning. Want more of that !
Right video at the right time! Just wanted to try it out today!🙌🏼🔥
Wow this was super interesting thank you!
11:25 im wondering what are the advantages of editing that video in after effects?
Love it! Keep 'em coming!!
Great stuff! You guys make it look easy....when it's definitely not!
Excellent, very interesting, thank you for sharing this !
Thanks, please keep more coming.
amazing work, such a talent.
Another great video!!
Kazu! Welcome back! I'm working hard to be able to do what you do at the scale you do it.
thanks for the insights guys :)
Great video! How did they do the frying effect on the steaks?
heat gun or clothes iron.
Ted. You rule👌🏻
Amazing work

Kaaaaaazuuuuuu
haha how u doing bro?
Hi there can I ask how does one do those products shoots where the item is holding in mid air?
depends on the shot and set. either they are hanging with wires to be removed in post or a rod mounted from below/under/behind/side, whatever side is the least obstructive to the shot and cleaned up in post
Sick! Love it!
I love when I watch these professional filmmakers not have a better mic or a MacBook Pro 16 that has a built in amazing mic
Super vid!
He is fucking amazing, Is like another level
would think this guy would own his own lights
would love to see how Kazu would make an product commercial with "low budget" stuff like 3 lights, table, camera - no robot no sliders.. :D
You can apply the same concepts and approach to lighting. The important thing is to study the materials of the products
awesome !!!
Crispy; every time.
Those steaks made me super hungry and it's almost 1am here..
This is perfect postmortem
Anyone else look for the skip ad button when the Longhorn steak spot came up?
I don't quite get the T 1/16 thing, can someone explain?
higher the aputure the more thats in focus. For that shot they wanted the whole product in focus rather than only parts of it
@@mattcaporaso7570 Thanks Matt!

Kazu reminds me a little bit of Keanu Reeves and Mark Ruffalo :)
All I can think of in the head shots is ‘wobble wobble wobble’.
sorry i was on a laptop on a camera cart. and kept leaning into it
Ok so Ted... I get why HE is on a video chat. But you're literally in the studio. Why are YOU on video chat?
Kit Kohler but for the Squarespace ad he used a proper mic 😂😂

I apply this to 3D Product animation
I THUMBS UP'd this bitch in the first 3 seconds.

That is really good, I hope my videos look like that.
a whole day to shoot a beer bottle..wow
😍😍😍
What?!? No links to the gear used??? Shook!
i didn't shoot most of the ads. I was just giving my educated guess of how it may have been lit. So we are not aware of the gear on most of the spots

A tiny amount of salt will create those single streams of bubbles.
yes that as well. many ways to achieve the same effect. tho this one didn't look like salt but i can be wrong
