As a solopreneur that has stumbled on bigger opportunities vs purposely seeking them out, this was absolute gold for me. It explained so many subtle tips that a DP with formal training just plain understands or was trained to expect or plan for. I am thankful for the relationships that help me to score bigger opportunities and add to my squad. Excited to be a new subscriber and really appreciate this one! (New Soldier from Toronto)
Very happy to hear it :) welcome
That was absolutely great. Not only did it dive deeper into lighting and DP setup, but also provided an understanding of the whole relationship/fee behind the shoot. Thank you so much :) This is game-changing for everyone learning and developing their own path to commercial cinematography
Thanks Victor! Share it with someone you think it could help?!
As someone who is just stepping foot into the world of video production, this video alone has provided me tons of value. On top of all the detailing (especially with the BTS with graphics), the fact that you went ahead and transparently showed how much you've charged shows you're here to deliver nothing but quality.
I would appreciate it if you could add an entire list of all the equipment used in the video, as I'm unfamiliar with most of it used in the video.
I wish you all the best, dear Scott!
Couldnt agree more that relationships are so important in this field. Great breakdown as usual!
Thanks mate
Scott this video is wicked. So much unseen work gone into this considering it's a BTS. Hats off to you.
Thanks Fraser! Glad you enjoyed it :)
Wow.... I was watching your videos for a bit of inspo.... I didn't realise you would be such a mentor... love the way you identify the struggles... and your journey whilst staying on track. 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Thanks so much Tony!
Just found your channel, I think these might be the best breakdowns on UA-cam. Thanks so much, love your work.
Thanks Nick! Much appreciated mate :)
All I can say is... Great Work!!! Great job pulling focus (despite your modesty).
You didn’t see the duff takes 😂
Kudos to your art department for the practical lights in the bar scene!! That was brilliant. That one breakdown I learnt so much about light placement. This is definitely going to be handy on my future shoots. Beautiful work Scott!!
They did a great job. Glad you found it valuable :)
Very interesting advice to start with the high speed and then go wider instead of the usual wide-to-close, I'll keep that in mind.
beautiful outcome! and thank you for giving us the pricing information straight forward without giving us the runaround like other videos.
No problem! Always happy to be transparent when there’s not an NDA involved :)
Brilliant video Scott. Seeing the chain is also really important too. I love the transparency and honesty of your videos. Keep it up matey!
If you ever have to pull focus again I heard a tip to make sure you set up perpendicular to the camera shot so you can watch as the camera and subjects move further and closer from eachother. I saw you were pulling with your back to the whole scene in one shot
Incredible to see the bts. Thankyou for sharing
You’re very welcome!
Awesome sauce! Great looking spots, thanks for sharing.. safe travels..
This was really great. You just enlighten me more about cinematography. Thank you
You’re most welcome mate
Finally a new video! I love it!

Nice
Great info and insight. Thanks for sharing.
My pleasure!
fascinating stuff - I'm an actor (and a secret camera/cinematography nerd) and while I was working on a commercial shoot for SPAR here in Northern Ireland I was talking to the food technician people who were setting up the table of food for the closing shot of the ad and THEY said the big money was in being a "liquid specialist" or something - not sure that was the actual job title but I heard about a guy who makes drinks like whiskey pour over ice in a pleasing way for the camera, and he travels the world for about 3 months making a fortune then takes the rest of the year off!!! was there anyone there making sure the baileys looked it's best or was that all on you?
Did you watch the whole video Andrew? 😁 There were loadssssss of people helping me make it look sexy, including a very talented drinks stylist called Lola Faura :)
Awesome BTS!! Subscribed :)
Thanks Maik!
first off, another amazing breakdown. So valuable and thank you. Were the practicals at 9:13 in the upper right hand corner specular? You mentioned they were tea lights, so were they just those small candles with the circular containers or what? Really love those were intentional.
Just those small candles yeah - real fire burning… no magic tricks here :)
thank you!@@ScottPetersFilms
Great video Scott! Interesting that the Dedo's went flickering, never experienced that before. I'll keep that in mind. Did you already get to play with the Freefly Ember 5K? Less dynamic range, but a cleaner image than Raptor. I think you will enjoy that cam.
I haven’t touched one yet, but the frame rates and resolution combo sound like a good time!
new subscriber! I also shoot on v-raptor and komodo quite a bit. question for ya- do you use any particular in-camera LUTs when you have a shoot with so many people monitoring on set?
I honestly don’t, just the standard Rec709 conversion LUT that the camera comes with, I try and get everything to a place where I’m happy and when people makes comments about a certain hue of the brown of a burger or something I normally say… we can fix that in the grade.
@@ScottPetersFilms Interesting. Thanks for the reply. keep up the good work!
This was pornographic, entertaining, and fucking inspiring. I love this industry so muuuuuuuch
😂😂😂 glad to hear it
@@ScottPetersFilms I also know it's not easy to dual track a packed two days of shooting with a vlog, so your wizardry is witnessed doubly.
I love you
The feelings mutual Miguel
Hey! What is the rig at 7:56 called ?
120% killer.
I will watch this later and I'm very curios, if this video is any different from the other zillions of "how to shoot a commercial at home" videos.
Don't get me wrong. Nothing against you and I even haven't seen your version at all. ;-)
No home shooting here with these lights...
36.000 W for a table to shot?.....
High frame rates need a lot of light
Great content! Terrifying outro
I’m glad it struck a chord Callam 😂
